How do you beat the dark elf in the magnetic cave. Each hit he does to me is 9999 damage. How do you kill something like that?

IIRC, you're suppose to lose to him once. If you got Edward's Harp from Troia, he would then play his song, weakening the Elf and releasing the metal barrier thing allowing you to reequip your good stuff. Then you fight him for real.

Yes. That Dark Elf was a nasty one, though, even after getting Edward's harp.
