Meh... is it really worth it? |
|
I've read the reviews and seen the playlist. However, is getting GH 80's right now really worth the $50? Or should I just wait until the price drops some? Normally, I would get it, but since GH3 is coming out pretty soon, I don't know if I want to get this. Plus, there's very few songs I know on here. I may get it in the next few weeks, but then again, I may wait til the price drops some. I don't really know yet.

When I bought this, I had limited knowledge of the songs as well. I only knew a handful, like "I wanna rock", "bang your head", "no one like you" and "electric eye".
I bought the game the same day it came out, as I am a big fan of the guitar hero games. I also like 80s rock, so the choice was easy. However, I was a bit disappointed when I found out there was 30 songs on the game. I thought "30 songs for 50 dollars"? That's expensive, considering the other games cost around the same, and they have more songs. Another drawback is the amount of songs that sound, well, crap. I must say that I didn't know a lot about all the songs beforehand, but when I played some of these songs, they sounded awful. Some of these are incidentally lesser known, as I have heard. The final drawback for me is that the game looks exactly like guitar hero 2. There are no new locations, characters, guitars etc, but every character and location have been given their own 80s look. Before anyone has a go at me, I know this game is an expansion pack to GH2, but surely they could have taken the time to add more characters/locations? However, despite the negatives, I love this game, because there are songs on there I like so much. I'd recommend buying it if you are a big fan of GH and 80s rock/metal, but if you are not, don't waste your time and money on it.

I was thinking the same thing. It's gunna cost me $70 Australian, which is a little more than I'd like to pay...And considering it seems like it will be mostly 80s glam rock, which I particularly don't like, it doesn't sound so great. I mean, is there any metal-ish kinda stuff on there at all?
Guitar Hero is too much fun to pass it up, but it had better be worth it. -------------------

There are some. You have "Bang your head" from Quiet Riot, "Balls to the wall" from Accept, "Holy Diver" from Dio, "Electric eye" from Judas Priest, "Wrathchild" from Iron Maiden, "I wanna rock" from Twisted sister and "Ballroom Blitz" from Krokus. There's not many, but the ones that are on the game are fun songs to play.

They're more rock than metal IMO, but they'll do

Nope, lol. They abandoned their glam style once and for all with the "Cowboys from hell" album, which was released in 1990. This means none of the songs from that album could be on guitar hero 80s.
However, I have been looking into the final album of the 80s, and on Wikipedia, it states that it was a mix of both glam and thrash metal. But I have never heard of any songs from that album. Look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Metal_%28album%29

This game isn't worth 50 bucks at all. There is nothing new about the look of the game or the menus and visually it looks like complete garbage. There are only 5 songs per chapter (including the encore) and there are only probably six characters to play. I grew up in the 80s and I've only heard probably half of the songs.
This game is a ripoff and a shameless attempt to cash in. ------------------- Life is based, less than you think, on what you've learned... and much more on what you'd had inside you right from the beginning. -Bret Hart

Is there any really annoying songs that are hard to get past? Especially with killer solos...
