there already is i think its called the rail gun?
Nope, two different technologies. A Gauss gun uses magnetic induction, a rail gun uses magnetic pressure.

The Gauss Rifle could still fire bullets with combustion like a regular gun but use magnetism to accelerate the bullets afterwards. This takes place far in our future, somebody may really develop a gun like that and be able to make it the size of an ordinary rifle. I hope so, because I would love to get one!
not really. normal "combustion" guns like we have are considered prehistoric in comparison to the theoretical application of gauss rifles, or magnetically accelerated projectile firearms. so i doubt they would use a combination of the two, plus it would be pointless cause the magnets would not do much good after the bullet is already going really fast from the combustion.

rail guns use 2 magnetic conducting rods that create a sort of magnetic field, and the projectile rides along the field. rail guns are more designed for larger weaponry, and theoretically would be better suited for long range attacks while gauss rifles have a better chance at being miniaturized and being useable in small arms fire.

Is it just me, or do the new Stargates look like they came right out of the show Stargate SG-1?

I couldnt make out the text. Ohwell, there kick ass anyway.

I hope all the Zerg building have improved movement also. That would be pretty cool, show actual life in a Zerg base. I want creep to move, Spawning pools to be liquid-like. That would rule.

They're in its shoulders and it opens its carapace up in that spot when it wants to fire them, but as evidenced in a cutscene from Brood Wars they also use their claws in close quarters. You never got to do that in the game though.

Do to caseless bullets fired from electronic handguns that are in development, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not long before armies stop using modern guns. It is pointless when it comes to the Gauss Rifles of the Terran Marines, I was just trying to account for the muzzle flash of their rifles in cutscenes. It looked like an average amount so I couldn't think of any reason it would do that other than combustion.

I'm going to work on building a small scale Gauss gun that's just fixed to a table. It's going to have to use an extremely small load though.

That makes more sense to me than what I said; I never looked into rail guns very much.

When a Drone mutates into a building, they should show his body slowly twisting to form that building until it completely finishes. I think that would be most interesting on a Vespene geyser. To watch him make the connections to the geyser and slowly mutate upwards.

That sounds VERY cool. It would be awesome if they actually pull this off, but it's probably too time consuming. I would rather have them spend that precious time on the gameplay and units. A detailed drone morph would be great eye candy though.

re: General Game Discussion 1

yeah that would be sweet if they wanted to spend time animating all that. if they did, it would rock even more. also along the same line, when a larva is mutating or say, a Hydra mutates into a Lurker, when the new unit "hatches" from the cocoon, it would be awesome if they animated the new unit actually busting out, so a Lurker would first break through with its front legs and rip the cocoon apart with it other legs until it was free. this would happen in a matter of a few seconds so as not to waste time. but it would look so much sweeter than simply the cocoon just bursting open in SC1 which was rather boring to see.

and what about when a Muta evolves, it always looked silly to have the cocoon suspended in mid air. maybe they could add wings to the cocoon so at least it looked plausible to have it floating there.

Every StarCraft player needs to check out the Savior highlight video. I made a threadfor it in thw BW forum. If you're not familiar with Savior, I made a small write up about him.
