Well you are right.

And like other people on this forum, I would prefer actually living in the wastes. Life without memories or real happiness is not life.

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

Well, this was an interesting debate. My own conclusion: Braun has the right, as he is the equivalent to God in his virtual world. He MADE it real, just like God did to everything.

My next topic is within the quest Blood Ties. I'll skip the summary and assume everyone knows the story.

What would you do if you were sent to talk to Ian? Would you have convinced him to go back to Arefu, or would you have let him be with The Family?

In all honesty, he has everything he needs with the Family. He has a belonging, a clique to say. He is with people who feel his pain, who understand him.

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

I'll let him stay, like you said he has everything he needs. Food, shelter, safety, understanding, and love. why deprive him of that just because you think something he does is wrong. He's better off there than in Arefu.

Arefu= sucks
With Family= better off there

I'm torn between killing the Family and just dragging the kid out of there by the hair.

The Family's ideals are twisted. He may be better off in a physical sense in the Subway, but he's better off psychologically in Arefu.

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

The family were all born with a desire for human flesh and well were just trying to live. They were not evil just different and the fact that there reasonable to deal with.

In arefu he would be a freak and would snap and kill again just like he did to his family at least with the family he can control his urges and have everything he needs.

The fact that you can let ian make his own choice and leave peacefully or accept protection in exchange for bloodpacks just shows how human they are . These are not monsters and forcing him to leave is not best in the long run since he started the search for the family. Also he wishs to only provide a place for people like him to live there lives and also he doesnt want to continue his cannibalastic tendancys.

Psychologically and physically hes better off in the subway. Like it or not he is one of them and just dragging him back wont change that fact at least with them he can stick to blood and not flesh too.

The entire 'bloodpacks' thing shows the entire condition is psychological. If there were a group of people going around drinking blood in todays society, would you be as forgiving?

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

To be honest i don't give a damn as long as they aren't hurting/killing people to get what they want but stick to the story in fallout.

He has urges that he cant control hence why he killed his family for his hunger for flesh. In the wastelands there is no established psychiatrists in the wastelands to deal with his natural urges that are considered wrong so to live he banded with people who are like him who chose to minimize there destructive urges and take blood instead of flesh. The wastelands are not a modern society its society in decay so everything goes and at least they are trying to minimize all the damage THEY CAN DO with there urges. They are civilized in there ways and kill for food. We kill animals for our own hunger and to them we are food.

Cannibalism is only wrong by our standards not natures since it happens in the animal kingdom. I don't like the idea of it but it isn't wrong for nature.

They have the right to life as much as everyone else and shouldn't be killed just because they act or believe different than anyone else.

At the moment the real world has Muslim extremists who believe there justified in killing those who believe different to there beliefs.

The way they went about there business is wrong but is acceptable since the rest of the wasteland isn't exactly a paradise and just as many bad things were being done by the rest. The fact they can choose to do a less harmful way instead of there prior acts is proof that they weren't malicious or anything and also the fact they will let him make a choice and wont retaliate puts them above other people in the wasteland.

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

Ian is a cannibal. If he goes back to Arefu then the madness will build up again and he will definitely kill someone again. But if he can stay with The Family, he will be able to control it, and only drink blood, rather than eating people. I'd rather have someone in the world who consumes blood than a cannibal. Plus The Family has everything he needs, protection, food, shelter and above all acceptance. If he goes back to live in Arefu then he will be cast out when his secret gets out, The Family offers him a home for life.

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

What I think it truly comes down to is how much you trust Ian.

The Family has taught Ian how to control his urges. If you give him blood packs as you would to the Family, he would be fine. He would not snap or lose himself to his urge.

Ian would not feel like an outcast, since as far as everyone in Arefu knows, he is a normal person. However, if you feel he is still unstable, than leaving him with the Family is the best course of action.

Once again, the choice you make comes down to trust.

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

I kinda thought that this discussion would go a bit further. Imma have to find another topic then. =\

This may seem a bit weak, but Oasis has a problem as well.

What would you choose between the 3 options? Kill Harold(or was it Bob...?) Spread his "magic" across the Wastes, or stop his growth?

I personally would kill him. It's his wish that really counts, since it is his life.

Obviously, but think, there is the fact that he could rejuvenate the Wastes. It is up to one man to decide the fate of the land. I would put that point ahead. If he didn't want to suffer a bit to fix the whole ecosystem, then I'd kill him, as per his wishes.

I would use him to fix the wastes, then tell him that he'd be a hero.

re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3

Well when i took this quest i thought about it long and hard (a whole 2 mins or so) And figured this.

So, you turn the Wasteland into a lush green paradise. Great, now we have Raiders, Slavers, Yao Guai, Deathclaws and Radscorpians running amuck in a Forest.

That'll be just perfect, the Raiders and slavers have more places to hide, they won't be seen behind the trees. Yao Guai: In a Desert a bear can't very well hunt, which is why bears are naturally in the forest.

As for Deathclaws, anyone who has played fallout most likely has had a Deathclaw sneak up on him/her, well now the Deathclaws have more of an advantage hiding in the trees.

So i guess im saying that i would kill him, because a Desert full of threats is better than a forest full of threats. (And because Harold survived 3 Fallout games)
