re: Debating Controversies in Fallout 3 |

There was also the fourth option, to kill him by fire, which he expressly didn't want. This quest is a good one because it brings back the Braun idea. Do you have the right to play God? Many thought Braun did not have the right, but are now willing to play God themselves. This quest I actually took a long time to do because of the thought behind it. I did choose to spread his seed, however I was also considering burning him. lol. Being neither choice was what he wanted I guess I came too the conclusion that it's fine to play God.

I don't know if being asked to do one of three things can be called "playing God". No one asked Braun to do what he did, he did it because he could. You however, are asked to do something about the problem.

"It's his wish that really counts, since it is his life."
Well Kevorkian (sp?) thought the same way and finally ended up in jail. lol. "I don't know if being asked to do one of three things can be called ""playing God"" It was four things and being that 2 involved killing, and the other 2 involved going against his wishes and essentially putting him into Limbo. I personally considered that playing God. "No one asked Braun to do what he did, he did it because he could." Braun in a way was asked. By Vault Tech being that they built the vault specifically for him to carry out his Garden of Eden simulations. Now mind you your right because the residents of vault 112 did not ask him for this, but for all but one, none were any the wiser of what was going on. -------------------

For the matter of Harold, I decided to simply destroy his heart. He asked first, after all. When it comes to my choices, morality doesn't count for shit. Only timing.
For Braun... well... being God is one thing. Playing God is another. ------------------- "Home is where the heart is. And with that said, find your enemy's house and burn that *bleep*er down."

quote gamenut6659I'm pretty sure VT cinstructed 112 to see how humans could live in a virtual, perfect life- Braun was tasked to provide a simulation which would make the people's lives perfect. He only started killing them randomly for fun because he got bored after a while. -------------------

quote gamenut6659Two of them were killing him in one way or another, and no one asked you to light him on fire. That counts for three things in my book. We all play God in everyday life if making choices that influence others is considered that. "We are our own Gods" comes to mind really. We need a good topic to spark this discussion... Can't think of any off the top of my head, so someone feel free to pitch one in if they have it. ------------------- ![]() quote Veggi

Braun doesn't have the right. Sick bastard. Plus, he masks himself as this creepy little girl. When i entered, after talking to some people, i was thankful when the lady who actually knew what he was doing came up and talked to me. Thing was though, it wasn't until i placed the bra or whatever in the guys basement and brake up his marriage.

I didn't think about it. Sure, Braun was probably twisted, but he's only a character in a game. One time, I might decide to do he wants, another time I might go for the other out.
It makes no difference. No real people are suffering. Still can't bring myself to blow up Megaton however. ------------------- ![]()

That's not really controversial. You're responding to a help signal that's all there is to it really.
The actual controversy comes from the Overseer's instructions, which are to find out what would happen to a vault that was to be shut indefinitely.

Oh, there's an idea. The purpose of each of the vaults. The Vault Experiment altogether, maybe. Morality seems a bit twisted when it comes to that subject.

Yeah, but in the end, Vault 101 that was sealed away from the outside (although this was proven wrong, as if it was you wouldn't have even known who people inside of it were. But really, i don't see them as "experiments", i see them as Vault-Tec's excuse to toy with the people who payed good money to try and survive and use them as simple puppets and for fun.

quote AjaxYes. Yes she did. She's so relentlessly... chipper and... quirky that I can't help but like her. If this was a movie, she'd be played by Natalie Portman. Nuclear exploding towns appears to be the level of evilness above which I will not go. Buring tree dudes alive, no problem. Poisoning the entire non-human population of the wasteland which is, while technically speaking a lot worse that nuking a town, no problem - most of them have been trying to kill me since I escaped the vault after all. Capturing slaves, no problem. ------------------- ![]()
