Cruel..... But some are kind of amusing ideas, although the experiments were pointless. Link at bottom.

Vault 36: The food extruders were designed to produce only a thin, watery gruel.

Vault 43: Poplulated by 20 men, 10 women, and one panther.

Vault 53: Most of the equipment was designed to break down every few months. While repairable, the breakdowns were intended to stress the inhabitants unduly.

Vault 55: All entertainment tapes were removed.

Vault 56: All entertainment tapes were removed except those of one particularly bad comic actor. Sociologists predicted failure before Vault 55.

Vault 68/69: Of the one thousand people who entered, there was only one man/woman.

Vault 77: Stated in comic to be populated by one man and a crate full of puppets, in Fallout 3 a Jumpsuit is acquirable at Paradise Falls.

Vault 101: "Evaluation of performance of an omnipotent Overseer in an indefinitely closed community." Although, clearly, it was opened and didn't exactly turn out how Vault-Tec had planned, as Amata tells you that it was opened for you to come in, then everybody pretended to forget. And in the end, this kind of proved to be the ultimate survivor vault lol.

But 106 was the cruelest. It's the one that you enter where the psychiatric drugs were released, causing every single inhabitant to have hallucinations, and you yourself even begin to have them when you enter, seeing the Overseer, your Dad, Amata, and the Tunnel Snakes.
