![]() League B Week 4 Match Reports 4 in a row!! Valencia kept up their domination of league B with a Brace from Gilardino. In a scrappy first half Berbatov had the best chance but his header was palmed out for a corner by Hansen. Rosenborg took the lead with a wonderfully worked goal which saw Romaric and Skjelbred combine before Owen rose highest in the box to head home. This sparked the leaders into action and five minutes later they were level when Habib Beye brought Berbatov down and Gilardino dispatched the spot-kick calmly down the middle. They had the lead minutes later when Darren Bent's shot after a mazy run came back off the post and Gilardino tapped it home for the easiest finish of his career. Marlon Harewood cam closest to the equalizer when he wormed his way past a couple of defenders and unleashed a powerful drive which crashed off the angle and out for a throw in. Final Score: Rosenborg 1-2 Valencia Swings and Roundabouts A late show that Letterman would be proud of gave Sevilla their first win of the campaign as Chelsea's defence collapsed late on. It looked like it was gonna be another bad result for Sevilla when Andres Palop pulled off a great double save to deny Anelka and then Lindgren blocked from Shevchenko who had picked up the rebound, Lindgrens block had a touch of handball about it and Shevchenko certainly seemed to think so. But Immediately from that Seville broke with Gervinho beating a couple of players on his way to a 1-2 with Eto'o which left him in the clear to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Alan Smith almost got the equalizer when his volley was deflected just wide of the post. Seville got their second when Eto'o drifted away from debutant Nakazawa at the far post and put away a gentle header just before the break. Huntelaar had a great chance to make it three just seconds into the second half but his chip sailed wide. Then on the hour mark Chelsea were back in it, Shevcheko found an unmarked Anelka who headed home with aplomb. They were level with their very next attack, an almost identical cross and finish to make the scores level. Both sides went to a more defensive tactics for the next few minutes, the Sevilla threw on Fredi Kanoute whose arrival paid dividends as he got on the end of an Eto'o cross to give them their first win of the campaign. Final Score: Chelsea 2-3 Sevilla Barca stroll to victory Gianluca Zambrotta scored a fantastic volley early on to put Barca in control of a game which they never looked like losing, or conceding in for that matter. Liverpool could only muster two shots in the entire match, one from Babel that was about as tame as a kitten with no teeth or nails. the other isnt worth mentioning. The second goal, from the spot, came after Kroos ran away from Gerrard only for him to catch up inside the box and rugby tackle him. The yellow was shown promptly and Ronaldinho dispatched it with ease. Liverpool felt they should have had a penalty, and I would agree as Kewell was taken down cynically by Schweinsteiger but the ref just gave a goal kick. Fianl Score: Barcelona 2-0 Liverpool 2-2! on yellows This game wont be remembered by anyone for much, maybe for the fact that the team in second who knew only a win would keep them level with the leaders buckled under the pressure and performed like a bunch of headless chickens. Tom Huddlestone's effort was the best of a poor fist period, even though it took a deflection to beat Casillas it was stopped on the line by Cannavaro who could have had a nap before passing it away. Craig Bellamy woke me from my slumber after he jumped off the bench, his tigerish performance and will to win will be important to the Hammers later in the year. His three late efforts were the best of a dire match played at a pace that a snail would have no trouble beating. Final Snore: Real Madrid 0-0 West Ham ------------------- I am a Mountain, I am the Sea | |
