Arsenal : Young Guns Gone Good Winter Transfer Window Weeks 1 & 2, January 11th 2008 ![]() With Arsene Wenger looking to add to his squad, and Arsenal TV's comprehensive round up of the 5 player Wenger may well sign, Arsenal TV now take you through weeks 1 and 2 of the transfer window. Week 1 After impressive in Bayern Munich's reserve's so far this term, and in his frequent cameo's for the first team, Arsene Wenger made an approach for Toni Kroos, only to be warded off by Bayern after threatening to report them to UEFA for attempting to tap-up the young German. With Kroos openly stating his desire to move to the North London side, will Bayern stand in his way and block a move to Arsenal even if it upsets one of their most promising stars? Arsene Wenger did however land three of his targets in the first week of the window as Batuhan, Arda Turan and Ji-Paraná all completed their moves. Batuhan was the subject of a £5m bid from Arsenal that was in time accepted for the 16 year old. Arda Turan moved in a £2.5m plus Alexandre Song deal. And Ji-Paraná signed in a like for like trade with Manuel Almunia joining Internacional. Batuhan selected the number 99 jersey, whilst Arda selected his number whilst at Galatasaray as he occupied the number 66 shirt. Ji-Paraná went for the more suttle approach and selected number 12. Wenger did however put in a sneaky bid for 17-year old Brazilian Gelson De Alves Morreira simply knwon as Machado. The young midfielder had recently been touted to be promoted to Sao Paulo's first team after impressive form in the reserves, and a minimal fee bid from Arsenal could well prise the Brazilian away. Talks were said to have been 'Put on hold' after the first week of the window. Arsenal weren't only buying players though. They did sell two players in the opening week as Tomas Rosicky departed for PSV Eindhoven after an £11.1m bid from the Dutch side was just too good to turn down. Along with Lukas Fabianski leaving the Emirates after failing to impress Arsene Wenger the Pole was sold to Bayern Munich for £4.8m Cesc Fabregas also received some attention as PSV, Real Madrid and FC Porto were all said to be interested in the 20-year old, with Porto supposedly offering Lucho Gonzalez and £1m for the Spaniard whereas PSV and Real were rumoured to have bids of £10m+ rejected. Week 2 As Week 2 dawned, rumours of Alexandre Hleb and Johann Djourou were plastered over the British tabloids. Hleb was said to be interesting Lyon and Benfica with the latter only interested in a half season loan deal. Hleb was said to be keen on the switch to France and with Lyon offering £11.1m, Arsenal agreed the initial fee with them, as Hleb headed off for a medical. Confirmation of the deal is expected to be announced next week. Johann Djourou on the other hand is reportedly the interest of Besiktas, Siena and Vitesse. Besiktas are said to be offering the most money with rumours of £4.9m to £5.3m thought to be the offer. Siena are said to be offering the least after openly stating they have approached Arsenal with a £4.4m bid. Vitesse are thought to have offered £4.9m. Wether or not Djourou will be sold is another case, as his versatility to play in midfield and defence, and his daunting stature are said to have pleased Arsene Wenger, who says he is 'part of his plans for the future'. Brazilian Machado's future looks to be hanging in the balance as Arsenal have came back with an improved offer, after being 'Put on hold' and have reportedly offered his family housing and accomadation as part of the deal which could see the young midfielder join the club. Machado headed off to England to sort out personal terms, and looks likely to make the switch. Conformation of the switch will be brought to you in week 3. Wenger has also been linked with Irish holding midfielder Bryn Duffy and Spanish Goalkeeper Pablo Menendez, both of whom are 17. Duffy has been plying his trade with Cork City ever since the age of 15, and was only a 2 year contract, which could see Duffy move to Arsenal on a free transfer. Menendez is an aplicant of the famed Barcelona youth system currently the second choice keeper at Barcelona B. Spaniard Cesc Fabregas supposedly influencing his decision to join Arsenal. Both stories will be covered next week, as negotiations are said to be progressing. Wenger's final dealings this week was the pursuit of Sao Paulo centre back Aislan. The 20 year old has recently broken into the first team and thhanks to EU laws, could move to Arsenal for free. Aislan is highly rated in his native country, and with Alex Song already gonee, and the possibility of Johann Djourou being sold, Aislan could be a ready made replacement. Confirmation of the deal is set to be released next week. Confirmed Deals IN OUT This message was edited by Junior Messi on Aug 01 2008.

Arsenal : Young Guns Gone Good Winter Transfer Window Weeks 3 & 4 January 30th 2008 ![]() After completing the signings of Batuhan, Arda Turan and Ji-Parana in week 2 and the sales of Tomas Rosicky and Lukas Fabianski. Weeks 3 and 4 held some shock deals for Arsenal, with incomings and outgoings. Week 3 Arsenal FC confirmed during week 3 that the signatures of Machado, Bryn Duffy, Pablo Menendez and Aislan had all been confirmed. Duffy was the first to select his shirt number and opted for number 7, which was made available after Tomas Rosicky's departure. Machado took the number 17 shirt, whilst Pablo Menendez took 18 and Aislan selected 21. Along with the signings of the young quartet, Alexandre Hleb left the club after he completed his medical at Lyon. Arsenal wish Alex the best for the future. Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger came out and said Johann Djourou is set to stay at Arsenal after rejecting three bids for the Swiss Defender-come-Midfielder. Wenger said this on Djourou - 'He's part of my plans. That is one of the reasons we did not seel him, as i feel he has a point to prove, and a place at the club.' Surprisingly Arsenal had a quiet week in the market but were not shy of interest from other clubs. With having to finalise the deals for Machado, Duffy, Menendez and Aislan, along with seeing off Hleb on the main agenda. Arsenal were once again approached by three clubs for the services of Cesc Fabregas. PSV came back with a £9.5m offer for the Spaniard which was surprisingly lower than the previos bid from the Dutch side. Fulham were a shock potential buyer and have offered £10.3m. Whilst Blackburn Rovers offered Morten Gamst Pedersen and £500,000 for the Spaniard. Arsenal TV understands that all bids for Fabregas are to be rejected as Arsene Wenger wisehs to keep hold of his prized asset. After failing with a bid to land Cesc Fabregas, Real Madrid were once again talking to Arsenal over the possible sale of Frenchman Mathieu Flamini. Real Madrid would not be alone however as Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on Flamini, but are offering less than Madrid. Arsene Wenger may have to sell Flamini before being able to buy any more players. Wenger did however bid for one player as he launched a £4.7m bid for Turkish full-back Ugur Ucar of Galatasaray. Week 4 In the final week of the transfer window, Arsene Wenger was set to confirm wether or not he had rejected approaches from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for midfielder Mathieu Flamini. Wenger did sell Flamini and sold him toReal Madrid for a fee beleived to be around £9.9m. Arsenal did however have some interest in the final week as Emmanuel Adebayor, Robin Van Persie and Johann Djourou were all the subject of bids from other clubs, but stayed put at the Emirates after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger called a close to his sides transfer dealings this winter. The signing of Ugur Ucar was also finalised as the Turk signed a 5 year deal after moving from Galatasaray. Ugur Ucar is the third Turk at the club after Arda Turan and Batuhan's moves this Winter aswell. Confirmed Deals IN OUT

Manchester United Ferguson Announces Retirement ![]() Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has today announced his retirement as manager of the football club. The shock news come after United were relegated to Division 2 in a match fixing scandal along with fellow Premier league club Newcastle united. Ferguson has established himself as the most successful British manager of all-time and in doing so has made Manchester United, the long time under-achievers that couldn't win a League title for 26 years, into perhaps the best football team in the world. Ferguson:'I love this club and they will always be in my heart. I am not leaving for any other reason than old age retirement and this will give the club a chance to move on aswell and i wish everyone at the club the best of luck and i hope there is more titles to be won here at Manchester United. My plans for now are to live the rest of my life peacefully, and hope to watch Manchester United play as much as possible.' This now leaves Man U in a dilemma over who will succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manager and is likely to be someone close to the Club. The top candidates are as follows; Ex-Manchester United star and Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes, Ex-United defender and Wigan manager Steve Bruce and Former midfielder and MK Dons manager Paul Ince. ![]()

Manchester United Sparky Named United Boss ![]() Mark Hughes has been appointed as the new manager of Manchester United, leaving Blackburn Rovers. The former Wales coach has signed a three-year contract and takes over from Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired earlier this week. "I am delighted to welcome Mark on board," David Gill, said. "In our view he is the brightest young manager in the game and he was our number one target for the manager's job." Blackburn were understandably loath to part with Hughes, who has built an impressive squad at Ewood Park. It is the second time in four seasons that the Lancashire club have lost their manager to a Premier League rival. Blackburn have played in the Uefa Cup in both the last two seasons under Hughes, though the former Manchester United striker has decided that with a limited budget he has taken his current club as far as he can. Hughes:'It is an absolute privalidge to be manager of such a big club like Manchester United and Its quite a extrodanary think to imagine, but my oportunity has come and I have to take it. When I was here as a player Sir Alex was manager and we got on really well and it is an honor to be in the same seat he was for all those years of glory.' VALENCIA ![]() PRE-SEASON GETS UNDERWAY August 5th 2007 Galatasaray 1-2 Valencia GALATASARAY -------Uşak-------- Çetin--Meira--Balta -------Topal------- ----Akman-Şaş------ Kewell--------Turan -------Nonda------- VALENCIA -----------Hildebrand------------ Miguel--Albiol--Marchena--Moretti -----------Baraja---------------- Edu-------------------------Silva Joaquin-----Villa---------Vicente Frank Rijkaard's first game as manager of Valencia got of to a disapointing start as Harry Kewell was brought down just outside of the box by Carlos Marchena. The Spanish defender was shown a yellow card. To make things worse Arda Turan whipped in the free kick above Raul Albiol and ex-Blackburn striker Shabani Nonda rose above Miguel to head the ball home. So Valencia were 1-0 down within 5 minutes of starating. After about 20 minutes of the game gone the turks came close again after Kellew's effort was pushed onto the post by Timo Hildebrand. The resulting corner was another chance for Galatasaray as Fernando Meira's header was cleared of the line by Moretti. It fell to the feet of young spanish midfilder David Silva. He ran it past defender Servet Çetin and played a One-Two with David Villa. Silva then took a shot from just outside the box with rocketed past Uşak and into the top corner, 1-1. Half time was approaching and the look on Frank Rijkaard's face said it all. If Valencia could just make it through to half time without anything bad happening, then maybe it would change around. Luck was on their side as Joaquin was taken down by the touchline by Balta. Joaquin got up to take thet freekick but it sailed over the crossbar. The half time whistle blew. At half time changes had to be made. With young Spaniard's Alexis and Juan Mata replacing Marchena and Vicente. The Second half got of to a flying start as Juan Mata had a shot deflected and David Villa having a header tiped over the bar. at about 70 minutes Edu was brought down on the halfway line by Harry Kewell. The experienced Winger was shown a yellow card for his troubles. The two centerback's maqde their way into the box. Miguel swung a freekick to David Silva on the edge of the box. The spanish man looked up and crossed it in. David Villa rose but missed it. It fell to Alexis on the edge of the box. The centre back just volleyed it into the net from a tight angle. The rest of the game was pretty average as neither team had many chances. The full time whistle went as Frank Rijkaards first game in charge got of to a shakey start. After the match Rijkaard said "This game was really a game of two halfs. The first half was a bitter disapointment as we were being torn appart. But in the second half we hit top gear and soon we were top of our game. Our next match against Fenerbahçe we will hope to win by a long way. Arsenal : Young Guns Gone Good Duff Luck For Spaniards, February 11th 2008 ![]() Eleven days after the transfer window was closed, Arsene Wenger's new squad was a little different to that of the previous. With Batuhan, Arda Turan, Ji-Parana, Menendez, Duffy, Machado, Aislan and Ugur Ucar all added to the squad, Wenger found it a little tough at first to get his squad to gel in time for the first fixture since December as Arsenal locked horns with Italians Lazio. With a cult legacy as one of the most succesful teams in Italian history, Lazio got straight to work as Mourad Meghni opened the scoring. Arsenal equilised just before the hour as youngster Henry Lansbury smashed home Emmanuel Adebayor's low cross for a 1 a piece. But that was as good as it was to get for Arsenal as Lazio finished them off as Tommaso Rocchi and Tare scored Lazio's second and third as the Italians ran out 3-1 winners. Arsenal were to get back on form though as they visited Argentina's River Plate before smashing them for four. Goals from Gilberto, Adebayor, Clichy and Bendtner sealed off an easy win for the Gunners just 4 days before they faced Espanyol. So with one loss and one win since the transfer market closed, could Arsenal win their second game, or would they fall foul and draw, or worse lose. Arsenal got off to a great start as after 42 minutes they were two goals to the good as Emmanuel Adebayor and a wonder goal from Cesc Fabregas put Arsenal in the driving seat. Espanyol managed to claim something from the first half as Raul Tamudo grabbed one back on the stroke of half-time. It was Espanyol who came out of the break the brighter. After looking likely to go into the break two goals down, Tamudo's strike on half-time was looking ever more helpful as Espanyol took the lead against the run of play as Tamudo and Moises put the visitors 3-2 ahead after 65 minutes. Espanyol were left to cling on though as Arsenal grabbed an equiliser courtesy of Irishman Bryn Duffy's header after 82 minutes. After a cross from Arda Turan was knocked back into danger by Gael Clichy. Togolese star Emmanuel Adebayor's diving header was blocked on the line, thankfully for Arsenal the ball fell to Nicklas Bendtner who's striker crashed off the bar, before the rebound was headed in by Duffy for 3-3. Arsenal weren't finsihed their however as 5 minutes later, Gael Clichy's cross was controlled by subsititute Bendtner before he lashed home the winner in another sensational comeback from the Gunners. Recent Results Lazio 3 - 1 Arsenal River Plate 0 - 4 Arsenal Arsenal 4 - 3 Espanyol Adebayor's Cut Arsenal TV today caught up with Togolese International striker Emmanuel Adebayor. Adebayor is currently Arsenal's top goalscorer this term after scoring 10 goals. But the real reason ATV wanted to talk to Adebayor is because of his new haircut. The new do' was first seen against Espanyol today and is a welcome change from his dreadlocks from the first half of the season. ATV asked Adebayor why he cut his hair. quote Emmanuel Adebayor ![]() Before ![]() After This message was edited by Junior Messi on Aug 03 2008.
