Arsenal : Young Guns Gone Good The Hard Life, October 17th 2008 ![]() After being promoted last term and enduring an indifferent pre-season Arsenal got their season underway to fellow promotees Newcastle. The two sides played out a cracking 5-4 thriller last year, and this was much the same. Newcastle took the lead after the ever dangerous Michael Owen tapped home. Arsenal struck back before the break as Emmanuel Adebayor continued his form from last season with a nice looping header over Shay Given from Cesc Fabregas' corner. After the break the goals flew in as Brazilian Cacapa headed in Damien Duff's corner before fellow Brazilian Naldo equilised 2 minutes later after a surging run into the box was finished with a powerful head. Arsenal took control now, as Adebayor got his second after heading in summer signing Alex Dos Santos' pin-point cross before Theo Walcott added a fourth. Newcastle did however get one back as Michael Owen finsihed from a tight angle. It was not enough for the Magpies though, as they lost 4-3 in a thrilling opening day encounter. Arsenal's entertaining games were not just limited to their fellow English side's but also Italians as they fell to giants Juventus as they lost 3-2 on the night. After Alex Dos Santos' opener, Juventus got two back before half-time as Vincenzo Iaquinta and the expierenced Czech Pavel Ndeved put the visitors 2-1 up. The results was their just after the hour as Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero scored Juve's third, as Arsenal looked to have given up the ghost. Arsenal did score one more as Eduardo tucked home for a consolation. Benfica was next for the Gunners as they downed the Portugese outfit 2-1 with goals from Naldo and Toure, both headed, and both assisted by Cesc Fabregas and his corners. Manuel Rui Costa scored for Benfica, as Arsenal's new away kit was unveiled and played in for the first time. It was back to England next as Arsenal welcomed London rivals Chelsea to the Emirates. Chelsea took the lead after Dutch maestro Johan Cruyff's son ; Robin, took his chance on the counter attack. With Arsenal desperate to get a goal first, they left themselves exposed at the back, something with Cruyff Jr. took advantage of as he easily rounded Pablo Menendez for 1-0. It was Cruyff once more who wrapped the game up as a jinking and jiving run from the left was finished off nicely with a left footed strike into the bottom corner. Arsenal failed to grab any real presence on the game as Chelsea's midfield was simply superior. Arsenal faced AS Roma next as they earned a creditable 1-1 draw after Totti's opener, that man Adebayor equiliser gaining Le Arse a point. Arsenal got their third win of the season next as another newly promoted team ; Bayern Munich were put to the footballing sword as Arsenal one 2-0 quite comofortably. Goals from Cesc Fabregas and Eduardo sealed the points as Arsenal headed back to England to take on Villarael. The game started well for Arsenal, as Miguel Veloso scrambled the ball home after 10 minutes putting the yellow submarines a goal down. They did however fight back, as with 10 minutes to go as Chilean prospect Mati Fernandez slid the ball home after Marcos Senna's precise through ball. Arsenal were once again involved in an exciting game as they locked horns with Lyon at the Emirates. Arsenal started horribly as they were 2 goals down after 12 mins after a sensational double from Fred. With Arsenal on the rocks, Arsene Wenger made a bold decision and opted for a 3-3-4 formation after the hour with Batuhan and Bendtner being added to the attacking ranks. The move paid off evidently as Batuhan scored with his first touch of the ball as he headed another Cesc Fabregas corner home giving Arsenal a hold in the game. 15 minutes later, Arsenal had completed the comeback as Nicklas Bendtner's grounded cross was tucked home by Batuhan. Unbeleivable scenes followed as the Turk was mobbed by his team-mates after scoring 2 goals in just 32 minutes n his first outing this season. So, with 8 games gone, 3 draws, 3 wins and 2 losses, Arsenal lay in the not so tedious heights of eight place. It is however more than can be said about fellow promoted side Newcastle and Bayern as the two lie 10th and 17th respectively. Recent Results Newcastle United 3 - 4 Arsenal Arsenal 2 - 3 Juventus Benfica 1 - 2 Arsenal Arsenal 0 - 2 Chelsea Arsenal 1 - 1 AS Roma Bayern Munich 0 - 2 Arsenal Arsenal 1 - 1 Villarrael Arsenal 2 - 2 Lyon This message was edited by Junior Messi on Aug 08 2008.

David Silva's ML Youth team update Goalkeepers
Huber Kim U Don
Berger Palmeiri Bos Guimaraes Postma Fischer Soler Maldini Chivu
Prieto Kaiser Camacho (c) Koeman Gambino Griffiths Shaw Frings Deisler Joaquin Basturk
Orellano Khumalo Schwarz Carter Marcelinho Starting XI Wolf Postma - Bos - Palmieri - Fischer Griffiths - Prieto - Camacho - Basturk Orellano - Carter *Player name/age/no. of years to peak Wolf/23/Peaked at 95 (2 above development curve) Not unrealistic to say that he's the best goalkeeper in the game at this point with five and half seasons of a plateau left on his development curve. With 99 for reflexes and 96 for keeper skills, he's almost unbeatable. His pace and acceleration means that he can close down on-rushing attackers with ease, and he's unusually comfortable on the ball for a goalkeeper. An excellent asset to my team. Fischer/22/Peaked at 93 (4 above development curve) One of my most effective attacking weapons despite being a left back. Puts some wingers to shame with his ability going forward. Solid in the tackle and air as well as having excellent recovery speed, will also pop up with a goal here and there with Carlos-style thunderbolts. Equally adept at playing left wing as well as left back, one of best left backs in the game. Camacho/22/Peaked at 94 (4 above development curve) Imagine the perfect mixture of Scholes, Fabregas, Gerrard, Xavi and Iniesta with a bit of Albelda thrown into the mix for good measure and you get the idea of Camacho's ability. The heart of my team capable of playing anywhere in midfield as well as up front if needs be. Scores vital goals and is a key part of my first team. Cabrera/23/Half a season (Currently at 90, 2 above development curve) From the Ayala school of defenders, partly due to his lack of height, but also because of excellent reading of the game and incredible jump. Somewhat of a forgotten man in my team after losing his regular first team spot to Bos, but is still excellent back up and an important part of my squad. Postma/23/Half a season (Currently at 92, 5 above development curve) Pretty much nailed down the right back spot by his third season. Excels at both attacking and defending (91) as well as being able to run all game. An excellent defender. Carter/23/Half a season (Currently at 93, 4 above development curve) The ultimate fox-in-the-box striker due to his attack, body balance, acceleration, dribbling and shot accuracy. The majority of his stats are well into the 90's, and his stamina and top speed have improved to a very good level. Reminiscent of van Basten. Khumalo/22/Half a season (Currently at 91, 1 above development curve) Has spent most of his time on the bench since joining the club, but is overall a very good player. An ideal link up man playing behind the main striker, but his shooting abilities let him down to be a consistent goal threat. Bos/21/1.5 seasons (Currently at 92, 1 above development curve) A well known ML youth whose reading of the game and passing abilities are second to none. Lacks height so he must be play alongside a more domineering centre back (that's where Berger and Palmieri come in). Also capable of guarding the back four in a holding midfield role. A classy centre back. Koeman/20/1.5 seasons (Currently at 87, 1 above development curve) A very pacey winger who can cause problems for most full backs, but I don't think he will ever have the ability to establish himself as a regular starter with only 1 and a half seasons of development remaining. Prieto/23/2.5 seasons (Currently at 91, 5 above development curve) The ying to Camacho's yang, Prieto has formed a formidable midfield partnership with the club captain. More defensive minded than his fellow Spaniard, Prieto is capable of bossing the game from his deep-lying position on the field with his excellent long passing range. Has a howitzer of a left foot which I can assure you is used to devastating effect. Berger/22/3.5 seasons (Currently at 86, 4 above development curve) A destroyer of a centre back most definitely from the old guard of defending. Strong and powerful in the air, he's the ideal foil for Bos in my starting eleven, except that Palmieri has established himself this season. Reeves/18/3.5 seasons (Currently at 77) More of a stop-gap back up player until someone better comes along. Adequate back up to Prieto in the holding role, solid at defending and comfortable on the ball, could potentially become a very good back up player. Palmieri/19/4.5 seasons (Currently at 85, 1 above development curve) A similar centre back to Berger, but much better on the ball and with considerably better passing. Established himself as first choice in his second full season, ousting Berger in the process. Has the potential to be one of the best. Kaiser/20/4.5 seasons (currently at 88, 2 above development curve) Only really being prevented from nailing down a regular first team spot due to Camacho. Less of a well rounded midfielder, but more of an attack minded play maker. Something of a crime to keep him on the bench, but there's no doubting that he can be better than Camacho. Kim U Don/21/5.5 seasons (currently at 89, 2 above development curve) His ability rocketed in the first season, but with a very low gradient in his development curve for the next few seasons, the South Korean could be shipped out sooner rather than later. Gambino/19/5.5 seasons (currently at 86) Currently all pace and not much else. Used him more often as an attacking right back late into games than a right winger, but has plenty of time to improve on the areas that let him down at the moment. Shaw/17/5.5 seasons (Currently at 81) Another pretty well known ML youth. Adds a much needed natural left foot to my wings, great pace and a decent delivery for his age. Will hopefully be ripping teams to shreds in a couple of seasons time. Schwarz/18/5.5 seasons (Currently at 85) One of the best ML youths? Has impressed in the limited number of games he's had, scoring around 15 goals in 20 games. An ideal target man due to his size, strength and heading ability. Chapi/21/5.5 seasons (Currently 85, 2 above development curve) A fairly low gradient in his development curve has hindered the increase of his abilities and as a result, his number of appearances. Carved a little niche for himself in the wing forward role playing just off the main striker. An effective impact substitute, not quite the hero that MaccaB made him out to be ( Griffiths/20/6.5 seasons (Currently at 87, 2 above development curve) Only recently established himself as a regular starter in the team. The most complete winger in my squad, has pace, dribbling ability, crossing and can grab a few goals himself. Capable of playing both wings, but a lack of teamwork is a bit of a nuisance at times. Soler/17/7.5 seasons (Currently at 78) Recent signing and so hasn't had much playing time. Looks like a very quick left back that peaks at around 92, so has plenty of potential. Guimaraes/19/7.5 seasons (Currently at 84, 1 above development curve) Excellent cover at right back, an all round excellent full back for his age. Proved himself to be a very able deputy to Postma with his barn-storming runs down the wing Orellano/21/8.5 seasons (Currently at 90, 3 above development curve) Firmly established himself in the wing forward role just off Carter. His pace frightens even the best defenders and is a very good striker of the ball. When his currently ability is taken into account with the number of seasons of development he has remaining, he could be a 'God-like' footballer by the time he peaks. Huber/18/9.5 seasons (Currently at 83) Back up goalkeeper to Wolf at the moment, but is better at 18 than Wolf was. Has the potential to take over the number 1 shirt, but will not have the same opportunities that Wolf did, who had pretty much established himself as first choice by his third season.

well, depends on what keeps you entertained.
starting with defaults isnt a bad idea at all, but it just takes some time and patience when building the team. some teams il recomend. Arsenal, its always fun with them, lots of young players to develop. Derby, a very challenging task, to get them win the league and Champions league, but should be fun doing it. Aston Villa, a good attacking side, that will keep you entertained. will be great for a 4-3-3 with Agbonlahor and Young on the wings. , now from La Liga, A.Madrid, a great young side and can be played football with beutifully. You will fall in love with Aguero. Valencia, another great side, with alot of great players, Silva and Villa should work wonders. From Seria A.. I would say Juventus, it would be a good challenge to get them dominate Europe, and bring back the fame and reputation that they had in real life couple of years ago. others: Lyon FC Porto Ac Milan hope i make it easier for you to choose

Day 1: Iran vs Sparta Iran Roudbarian Mahdavikia - Aghili - Rezaei - Zandi Nekounam - Teymourian Karimi Kazemian - Enayati - Hashemian Sparta Rotterdam Kerklaan Promes - Moreno Freire - Gudde - Jaggy Kaita - Rose - Dissels Vlug - Roberts - John Iran took an early lead in this game. They caught Sparta napping and Hashemian punished them. But Iran weren't ahead for long as Sparta went straight up the other end, winning a corner which Roberts headed in from Promes' cross. The game went to sleep after this and a stalemate with few chances for both sides. Neither side took off after half time. A few substitutions were made but to little effect. A dull second half saw Dissels pick up a yellow card for a sliding tackle. Other than that no real excitement for the fans. Day 2: Travelling to Saudi After the team's 1-1 draw with Iran, the squad went out to a local restaurant for some after match food. The manager Macintyre treating them to some local delicassies. The flight to be at 4 o'clock the next morning he took them back to the hotel for an early night. The manager said he felt sorry for the players to have to play so many games in such a short space of time but it would help improve their fitness so it would be worth it in the long run. The flight went well for the team and by 10 o'clock they were at their hotel. Only to find that 4 of the players had come down with food posoining over the night. The players were; Sani Kaita, Yuri Vlug, Danny Schenkel and Kim Jaggy. Forcing the manager to change his formation for the day's game against Saudi Arabia.

Day 3: Saudi Arabia vs Sparta Saudi Arabia Al Musalim Al-Bahri - Hawsawi - Jahdali - Al-Mousa Al-Jassam - Aziz - Khariri - K. Al-Qahtani Mouath - Y. Al-Qahtani Sparta Rotterdam Wapenaar De Roover - Adeleye - Gudde - Polak van Beuren - Slot - Boukhari Rose - Roberts - Dissels A disappointing first half seeing Dissels shot saved easily as the main attack for Sparta, but Saudi, on the back foot for the majority of the half, nicked a last minute goal to give them the lead at half time. De Roover picking up a yellow card as well. A flying start to the half by Sparta, grabbing a goal through Roberts as a stray ball dropped to him, and placed it in the bottom corner. Sparta kept up the attack and late on in the game, after the defence having failed to clear the ball, Boukhari curled in a screamer from just outside the area. Roberts had a chance to make it three but he blazed it over. Final score 1-2 [size=1][color=#666666]This message was edited by Pappi on Aug 10 2008.
