Cor Varkevisser receives 6 years in jail

Following the 25 year old goalkeeper's conviction, manager Joseph Macintyre has released Cor Varkevisser for being convicted of the rape of 2 Japanese women at the team hotel in Tokyo.

quote Joseph Macintyre
I am disappointed in Cor, he is a great 'keeper and we will miss him but I can't pay his wages every week and nor can the club so we have agreed the termination of his contract with immediate effect.

Friends Provident Trophy

Fixture 2

Sparta Rotterdam

Wapenaar
Promes - Gudde - Adeleye - Jaggy
van Beuren - Polak - Boukhari
Vlug - Roberts - John

Bordeaux

Olimpa
Chalmé - Bregerie - Planus - Marange
Gourcuff - Alou Diarra - Ted Lavie - Wendel
Saivet - Cavenaghi

An exciting first half, Cavenaghi brutally fouled in the box gives Bordeaux a penalty and Polak only a yellow card. Saivet stepped up to take but he hit the post and the defence managed to clear. Moments later another horrid foul by Polak and he's off for an early bath. Fortunately he got two yellows so he won't miss any league games through suspension. Sparta had a few chances of their own, with Gudde's header being cleared off the line and John's header going narrowly over. A good half.

Saivet's shot is saved and bounced back out to him, with the goal at his mercy he sends the ball wide. A stray pass intercepted by Boukhari, who bursts through on goal and cooly opens out to curl the ball past Olimpa into the net.

Final score 1-0

Werder Bremen also lost 2-1 to Liverpool in the other fixture of this tournament.

Werder 7pts
Liverpool 7pts
Sparta 6pts
Bordeaux 0pts

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Coppell's Delight, June 13th 2007

After a season of turmoil last year, Berkshire club Reading FC have stuck faith in manager Steve Coppell as the former Manchester United player has signed a new 4-year-contract with Reading. Chairman John Madejski said 'It's a gesture of us thanking Steve for all he's done for this football club. He's taken us to the highs of the Premier League and we feel it's only fitting to keep Steve on board'. Steve Coppell was unable to comment on his contract extension but his advisor has said 'Steve is delighted. He has a place for this club in his heart, and he doesn't want to leave anytime soon. He is very happy.'

Royal Relegation, June 14th 2007

Reading will be playing in the lower leagues for the forthcoming season after allegations of match fixing. After the 1-1 draw with Manchester United in September 2006, an FA enquiry found Reading and Manchester United's Gary Neville guilty of the charge. Neville is likely to suffer from a 2 year ban, but is able to appeal, whilst Reading have been automatically relegated. The scandal started after Gary Neville's handball, gave Reading a penalty from which Irishman Kevin Doyle scored from, before Cristiano Ronaldo scored United's equiliser. Some would say luck was on the Royals' side however, as UEFA have uncovered their desire for the EuroLiga to come into fruition this year, meaning that Reading are not relegated into the Coca-Cola Championship, but the bottom tier of the EuroLiga. The Euroliga will be 5 leagues. One of which has a second tier, that is the league Reading will be playing in.

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Peace Cup, July 17th 2007

Fixture 1

South Korea

Kim Yong Dae
Lee Young Pyo - Kim Choi Gon - Kim Sang Sik - Kim Dong Jin
Kim Nam Il - Lee Ho
Kim Do Heon
Lee Chun Soo - Cho Jae Jin - Park Ji Sung

Reading

Hahnemann
Murty - Bikey - Ingimarsson - Shorey
Little - Cox - Harper - Hunt
Kitson - Doyle

After a quiet first 45 minutes, with the Koreans applying most of the pressure, the second half was a little more lively. With both Dave Kitson and Simon Cox both forcing saves out of Korean 'keeper Kim Yong Dae. The game looked as though it was heading for a stalemate though. That was however until the 72nd minute when Dave Kitson's low cross from the right was tucked home by Kevin Doyle from 4 yards. A well thought out goal for the Royals. With the introduction of many players in true pre-season fashion, substitute Leroy Lita pulled out another fine save from Yong Dae as the Korean tipped over the England under-21 striker's effort from the edge of the box. As the match came to a close, many would say it was a tight game that Reading just edged. A good workout for Steve Coppell's men.

South Korea 0 - 1 Reading
72' Doyle [Kitson]

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Peace Cup, July 18th 2007

Fixture 2

SM Caen

Planté
Seube - Thiam - Svensson - Eluchans
Toudic - Proment - Deroin - Lemaître
Jomaâ
Gouffran

Reading

Hahnemann
Murty - Bikey - Ingimarsson - Golbourne
Rosenior - Matějovský - Cissé - Convey
Kitson - Long

Unlike the previous game, the first 45 minutes offered lots of action. It was Caen who got the opener as after neat work on the edge of the box, Jomaâ's shot hit the post, thankfully for Caen, full-back Juan Eluchans was on hand and knocked the ball home for 1-0.
Reading were to bounce back however as Kalifa Cissé and Dave Kitson both missed guile edge chances from close range. Reading did get their equiliser though as Cissé's precision perfect through ball to Shane Long beat the offside trap, a first touch from Long was all he needed as he knocked around Planté and rolled the ball home into an empty net for 1-1. Reading were not done their however as Ingimarsson's header on the stroke of half-time crashed of Planté's post before Bikey blazed over.
Reading were lively from the get-go after half-time as Irishman Shane Long scored his second of the game for 2-1. After Bobby Convey's surging run after winning possession on the half-way line, he cut a ball back for Long, who controlled looked up and poked home over the diving Planté. Great finish. Reading secured the game with a little under 15 minutes to go as they scored a fortunate goal. After Eluchans clearance was blocked by Kitson, the ball spun into the danger zone, where substitute Kevin Doyle headered home for 3-1. Lucky, but well deserved.
It's four, as after Steve Coppell's mass of changes, centre back André Bikey found himself in unfamiliar territory up front. The Cameroonian scored after heading in Kalifa Cissé's cross in the dying second of the game for 4-1. A convincing win by all accounts. 2 goals from Shane Long, and a goal each from Kevin Doyle and André Bikey, Steve Coppell must be satisfied with his teams performance today.

SM Caen 1 - 4 Reading
8' Eluchans
25' Long [Cissé]
50' Long [Convey]
81' Doyle [Kitson]
90'+ Bikey [Cissé]

Fixture 3

Roda JC

Bram Castro
Kah - Van Kouwen - Saeijs
Sonkaya - De Jong - Tioté - Meeuwis - Bodor
Cissé - Oper

Reading

Hahnemann
De La Cruz - Duberry - Ingimarsson - Shorey
Convey - Matějovský - Cissé - Hunt
Doyle - Lita

After a rather congested first half it was Reading who went into the break the happier of the two sides. Kevin Doyle put Reading ahead after he nodded home Marek Matějovský's corner past Bram Castro who could only help it in. Roda have however had their lionshare of the possession as their 5 man midfield has won tackle after tackle after tackle, and would feel hard done by to go into the break a goal behind.
Reading were quick off the mark again as Bobby Convey increased the Royals' lead with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, which beat Bram Castro all ends up. Cracking finish.
After 93 minutes the referee calls an end to proceedings with Reading running out comfortable 2-0 winners.

Roda JC 0 - 2 Reading

37' Doyle [Matějovský]
64' Convey [Lita]

Fixture 4

Vitesse

Raboczki
Van Mourik - Sansoni - Sprockel - Magralishvili
Kaya - Takak - Janssen - Swerts
Lorca - Junker

Reading

Andersen
Rosenior - Bikey - Ingimarsson - Shorey
Convey - Gunnarsson - Faé - Hunt
Doyle - Kitson

Reading started off the better of the two sides here as their early pressure forced Vitesse keeper Raboczki into some luck saves. After efforts from Gunnarsson and Kitson both of which were fumbled by Raboczki, Reading finally got their opener as Bobby Convey lashed home the ball on the half volley into the roof of the net. Stunning finish by the American.
Reading came close again after the break as Shane Long's shot rebounded off the post. A rather dull game came to a close after Ingimarsson's long range effort cannoned off the crossbar. A satisfactory performance but nothing real special today.

Vitesse 0 - 1 Reading

37' Convey

Fixture 3

Sparta Rotterdam

Wapenaar
De Roover - Gudde - Schenkel - Jaggy
van Beuren - Slot - Boukhari
Vlug - Roberts - Rose

Werder Bremen

Pellatz
Boenisch - Pasanen - Baumann - Mohr
Niemeyer
Vranjes - Carlos Albreto - Diego
Rosenborg
H. Almeida

No major chances for either side but when Jaggy played a long free kick over the top, Boenisch attempted a header which dropped to Roberts, who volleyed from a tight angle but a good save from Pellatz denied him.

Gudde gave away a penalty and earnt himself a yellow card. Rosenborg stepped up and smashed it in the top corner. Moments later Rosenborg holds off two defenders and strikes on goal, a good save by Wapenaar but it falls to Almeida who cooly slides it in. With about 10 minutes to go Vlug broke down the right wing, got to the byline and whipped it in with only Rose to aim for, and he picked him out perfectly. It dropped just in front of him and he hit it on the half volley into the roof of the net, quality finish.

Final score 1-2

Liverpool capped off their campaign with a 4-1 win over Bordeaux, which left the final group standings as so:

Liverpool 14pts
Werder 12pts
Sparta 7pts
Bordeaux 1pt

quote Joseph Macintyre
I'm happy with the players and I hope that they will continue to perform into the league season, it will be tough but I know they can do it.

Nice going with these SOMS lads. I'm thinking of posting my Fulham one.

If anyone is getting stuck with ideas, I'd recommend them to check the FM2008 Stories Forum. It has some real neat ideas in there.

re: Master League [3]

Division 2 - Fixture 1 vs Real Murcia

Final Score 1-3

Sparta make a great start to the campaing by scoring with only 3 minutes played, Murcia hadn't even had a touch of the ball. van Beuren with a great header. Real Murcia go straight down the other end and score a goal! Movilla picked it up on the edge of the box and slammed it into the bottom corner. Poor defending again from Sparta gifts Murcia the ball, Cuéllar goes through unchallenged and puts it in. A dream start gone wrong for Sparta. An entertaining first half for the fans but Macintyre won't be happy.

A good cross from the left goes over the top of the defence and Ivan Alonso is there to power in the header. Poor defending yet again by Sparta!

Well, Sparta, after taking an early lead, were simply outclassed.

quote Joseph Macintyre
We were outclassed and outplayed all over the park. We tried our best and I can see me making some changes to the starting XI after this game but I'm happy we scored, it gives us something positive to build on, but yeah, of course I'm disappointed.
