Reading have been invited to German sports manufacturer Puma's pre-season tournament which starts on the 5th of August in Berlin. The German tournament is heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur's 125 year anniversary, which the London club celebrate this year. Reading will start their tournament against AEK Athens, whilst FC Utrecht play AS Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur face Olympiacos. All the games will be played on the same day after each other, with all the matches being played at Berlin's Olympic Stadium.
Steve Coppell said the following on his sides invite into the tournament -

quote Steve Coppell
Of course, i'm happy to be invited, because it's always nice when you get offered opportunities like this. All the sides here have quality, and it's nice to get the opportunity to play sides you wouldn't usually come up against. I look forward to it.

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Puma Jubilee Tournament, August 5th 2007

Fixture 1

AEK Athens

Moretto
Edson - Alexopoulos - Dellas - Georgeas
Kafes - Zikos - Tőzsér - Júlio César
Rivaldo - Blanco

Reading

Federici
Murty - Bikey - Duberry - Shorey
Oster - Matějovský - Cissé - Hunt
Long - Kitson

After a lively start to the tournament in the first half it was Reading who were smiling at half-time of the first game. After an opener from Shane Long, as the plucky Irishman controlled Stephen Hunt's pass before coolly slotting home, AEK got an equiliser. After Reading keeper Adam Federici brought down Brazilian legend Rivaldo in the box, referee Jani Brugstrom pointed to the spot, and cautioned the young Australian keeper. Júlio César stepped up to take the penalty, and beat Federici who was unlucky after diving the right way. Reading were not beat down though as Long again found the net after another darting run down the left from Stephen Hunt, was followed up by a precise through ball to Shane Long, who once again finished as Reading headed into the break 2-1 up. The second half started much the same way as the first as the high paced tempo of the game continued as Ismael Blanco pulled out a fine save from Federici. It wasn't all good news however as Reading striker Dave Kitson looked to have picked up what seemed an ankle injury, and was substituted shortly after the break, Leroy Lita came on. Lita made an almost instant impact as within a few minutes, he found the net. After Marek Matějovský's cross was headed to edge of the box by John Oster, the lively Leroy Lita made good work of his chance as he volleyed the ball home for 3-1. The match pittered out from here on in, as both teams made numerous changes in the later stages. The match finished with Reading as 3-1 winners, which leaves them top with 6 points. AEK gain a point thanks to their solitary goal.

AEK Athens 1 - 3 Reading
28' Long [Hunt]
37' Júlio César
41' Long [Hunt]
63' Lita [Oster]

FC Utrecht 2 - 1 AS Monaco
11' Nenê
53' Van Der Gun [Nelisse]
86' Rossini [Caluwé]

In the second game of the Puma Jubilee Tournament, Monaco took an early lead as Utrecht defender Etteine Shew-Atjon fouled on-loan Juventus Midfielder Sergio Almirón in the box. The offender received a booking from referee Rafael Schmidt, and Brazilian Midfielder Nenê slotted home the penalty, although Utrecht keeper Michel Vorm will feel hard done by after diving the right way, the ball hit his knee and spun into the net. Utrecht thought back after the half-time and got their just rewards after the impressive Cedric Van Der Gun's hard and low drive from the right was too hot to handle for Flavio Roma in the Monaco goal. Monaco were soon thanking the heavens not long after as referee Schmidt gave a rather jubious penalty to the French side, after Sander Keller's challenge on full-back Adriano was adjudged to have impeded the Brazilian's path on goal. The Utrecht players were outraged but the penalty was given and Nenê blazed wide of the mark. Justice done perhaps? Utrecht continued to apply their second half dominance as they took the lead late on. Tom Caluwé's corner was met with a towering header from Giuseppe Rossini after a well deserved goal. Utrecht held on for the win and this win sees them take second place in the tournament.

Olympiacos 3 - 0 Tottenham Hotspur
16' Kovačević
24' Galletti [Stoltidis]
78' Kovačević [Pantos]

In the third and final game of the day Greek side Olympiacos met Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs started off the better of the two seeing Jonathan Woodgate's header cannon off the opright, before being cleared. But it was Olympiacos to strike first as Serbian Darko Kovačević beat the Tottenham defence before firing past Paul Robinson from an acute angle. Olympiacos got a second shortly after, as a sensational strike from Argentinian Luciano Galletti beat Robinson from the best part of 30 yards and rifled into the top corner of the net. Cracking finish, a potential goal of the tournament. After a rather tentative majority of the second half, it was lit up by a piece of magic. After Anastasios Pantos' chip through ball was controlled by Darko Kovačević, the Serbian looked up before firing home from the edge of the box for his second of the game, a well excecuted move finished with style. The game was all but done after Kovačević's second goal, and the match pittered out. Olympiacos now lie top of the table after the first batch of fixtures.

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Puma Jubilee Tournament, August 6th 2007

Fixture 2

Olympiacos

Nikopolidis
Zewlakow- Patsatzoglou - Julio Cesar - Raúl Bravo
Mendrinos - Stoldtidis - Ledesma - Djordjevic
Konstantinou - Lua Lua

Reading

Hahnemann
De La Cruz - Bikey - Cissé - Shorey
Convey - Harper - Faé - Hunt
Long - Lita

The top two sides so far clashed at the Olympic Stadium today, and with both scoring 3 goals in their previous games, goals were indeed to follow. After starting off the brighter of the two, it was Reading to take the lead. After Stephen Hunt's perfectly weighted corner was swung in, centre back André Bikey scored his second goal of pre-season as his deft touch found it's way into the net. It was Reading again next as intelligent play down the left from Stephen Hunt and Nicky Shorey allowed the Englishman to whip a ball into the box, Shorey's cross found the head of the arriving Emerse Faé who's header cannoned off the post. Luckily for Reading the rebound hit Spanish full-back Raúl Bravo before trickling over his own line.
Reading continued their dominance as they added a third goal before half-time. After Bobby COnvey's cross wasn't dealt with, Greek defender Christos Patsatzoglou was robbed of possession by Nicky Shorey in his own 6 yard box. The ball fell to the in form Shane Long who fired home with his left foot for 3-0.
It's quite sensational really as Reading score their 4th goal of the game. After James Harper's pass, a dummy from Leroy Lita allowed the speedy striker a shot on goal, he took it and fired home with immense power. 4-0.
Olympiacos do not give up though, as they grabbed a lifeline as captain Predrag Djordjevic slotted home from the edge of the box after a good move from the Greek side. But Reading scored a fifth, yes a fifth goal before half-time. Leroy Lita used his pace tp break the Greek sides defence, before rounding keeper Antonios Nikopolidis and rolling home. 5-1 at half-time.
Olympacios come close to getting a second shortly after the break as a mis-defended corner was eventually cleared by a scrappy toe punt from Emerse Faé after Marcus Hahnemann's world class save from point blank range moments before.
After a rather low-key second half, Olympiacos got yet another goal back, to mkae it 5-2 as Marcus Hahnemann was left isolated after a swift counter attack. After 3 Olympiacos forwards got the ball round the American, former Newcastle striker Lomana Lua Lua poked home. After a rather dull second half, Reading score once more in injury time, as Steve Coppell waves keeper Marcus Hahnemann up for a corner in the dying seconds. Little did he know that Bobby Convey's cross was to meet the head of the American and score Reading's sixth goal of the day.

Olympiacos 2 - 6 Reading
18' Bikey
23' Raúl Bravo OG
27' Long
40' Lita [Harper]

45'+ Djordjevic [Konstantinou]
45'+ Lita
74' Lua Lua [Kovačević]
90'+ Hahnemann [Convey]

FC Utrecht 1 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur
9' Nelisse [Kopteff]
12' Gilberto [Boateng]
58' King [Tainio]

After the days early kick-off between Olympiacos and Reading, FC Utrecht and Tottenham Hotspur would find it hard to improve on the events already casted today.
Utrecht scored the first goal of the game after early dominant pressure. After Peter Kopteff's cross was swung in, Robin Nelisse met the ball and powered a header home for 1-0.

Tottenham weren't behind for long though as Brazilian Winger-come-full-back Gilberto, advanced into the penalty box after receiving Kevin Prince Boateng's pass before firing home for 1-1 just moments after Robin Nelisse's opener. After the break, the high tempo of this game continued as Tottenham snuck in front. After Teemu Tainio's lofted corner was put into the dangerzone it was captain and fans favourite Ledley King who powered his header home off the underside of the crossbar. After alot of Tottenham pressure, Utrecht failed to get a goal back as Spurs ran out 2-1 winners. A much needed win.

AEK Athens 0 - 0 AS Monaco

The only game between two losing sides kicked off as today's late kick-off. A rather drab first half by all accounts, both teams seem to be lacking a creative spark. With Rivaldo on the bench could an introduction from him liven the game. The second half could only get better. The second half continued to be rather lifeless, but Monaco came the closer of the two sides as Frédéric Piquionne's effort hit one post before rolling along the line and hitting the other, before being cleared. After Piquionne's shot that hit the post, AEK upped their game, applying a mass of pressure late on, but was unlucky to see Monaco's resilient defensive unit hold out, as both teams played out a 0-0 draw.

Table After Fixtures 2

5 - AS Monaco - 2pts - 1 - 2

re: Master League [3]

Division 2 - Fixture 2 vs Borussia M'Gladbach

Sparta grab an early goal from Roberts, as he latched onto a through ball from Arne Slot, turning his marker and chasing the ball before smashing it in to the bottom corner. Sparta kept on pushing and were rewarded once again, when Rose crossed the keeper lept out but missed it, leaving it to hit the defender before shaking the net. An unfortunate own goal. Borussia M'Gladbach go straight down the other end and score. A cross from the right met by Neuville on the volley.

The second half was relatively quiet until Roberts stole the ball from the defender which left him through on goal. An attempted hack down from one defender chasing back wasn't enough to stop him and he calmly slotted it home, with 5 minutes remaining.

Final Score 1-3

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Puma Jubilee Tournament, August 8th 2007

Fixture 3

AS Monaco

Roma
Adriano - Bolívar - Monsoreau - Cufré
Diego Pérez - Meriem - Almirón - Leko
Nenê
Piquionne

Reading

Hahnemann
De La Cruz - Bikey - Duberry - Shorey
Little - Harper - Cissé - Convey
Doyle - Kitson

As first met fifth, would this game prove to be another Reading high scoring affair or a lacklustre 0-0 draw?
It was the French side to strike first though as a hopeful ball up field from Nenê was miscontrolled by Marcus Hahnemann as the stopper came out to clear, the ball fell to Frédéric Piquionne, who controlled before knocking the ball into an empty net. A clanger from the usually reliable Reading man.
Reading were resilient though, and when Bobby Convey's teasing cross was missed by Flavio Roma, James Harper looked odds on to header home, but he too missed adding to Reading's frustration. Ulises De La Cruz also received a bokking in the mean time. Reading went into the break lucky to only be one goal down as both Diego Pérez and Piquionne post squandered good opportunities to further Monaco's lead.
After the break Reading made some changes, one of whom was the introduction of one Leroy Lita, the striker soon had the ball in the net, but was left gutted after the Japanese official ruled it out for offside. Reading got their equiliser though as subsititute Jimmy Kébé headed home Bobby Convey's corner after being on the pitch for a matter of moments. A tad fortunate and perhaps underserved but Reading aren't complaining. A rather uninteresting game came to an end after 90 minutes as neither side managed to get the winner.

AS Monaco 1 - 1 Reading
3' Piquionne
76' Kébé [Convey]

Tottenham Hotspur 3 - 0 AEK Athens
4' Berbatov [Lennon]
21' Taarabt [Jenas]
73' Keane [Bale]

After todays early kick-off both Spurs and AEK Athens would be looking for a win to take advantage of Reading's draw. Tottenham won their last game against FC Utrecht whilst AEK drew with Monaco.
After coming from behind to win their last game, it was Tottenham who took the lead here. After Aaron Lennon's cross to the edge of the box, Bulgarian hitman Dimitar Berbatov excecuted a stunning volley which curled into the net. A cracking goal.
Tottenham look on fire today. After Aaron Lennon's run down the right, his cut-back found Jermaine Jenas, with a deft flick into the box, Jenas found young Adel Taarabt who controlled, turnt and let fly past Moretto for 2-0.
The game was sealed in the second half. After Spurs' pressure paid dividence. AEK gave up the ghost and Robbie Keane struck for Spurs as he headed home Gareth Bale's corner for a resounding 3-0. A much deserved lead. Spurs held out for the victory and after a dismall start against Olympiacos, Spurs look to have got some momentum up and running.

Olympiacos 0 - 0 FC Utrecht

With the early draw today, and Spurs' convincing win against AEK both Olympiacos and Utrecht would be looking to bounce back from defeats in the previous game. With a high enough win, Olympiacos could take top spot of the table, but would need a goal frenzy for that to happen. A rather dull first half came to an end at half-time with neither side with a goal. Both sides have had their chances but have both failed to make the most of them. After a second half similiar to the first,t he game pittered out to a 0-0 draw. A rather lacklustre day from all the sides involved apart from Tottenham.

Table After Fixtures 3

Pos | Team | Points | GS | GC
1 - Reading - 17pts - 10 - 4
2 - Tottenham Hotspur - 11pts - 5 - 4
3 - Olympiacos - 9pts - 5 - 6
4 - FC Utrecht - 7pts - 3 - 3
5 - AS Monaco - 4pts - 2 - 3

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Puma Jubilee Tournament, August 10th 2007

Fixture 4

FC Utrecht

Grandel
Van Buuren - Dickoh - Schut - Cornelisse
Loval - Caluwé - Kruys - Kopteff
Van Der Gun - Nelisse

Reading

Hahnemann
Rosenior - Bikey - Sonko - Shorey
Convey - Gunnarsson - Matějovský - Hunt
Lita - Kitson

After dissapointing draws for both teams last time out, the chances of this match producing goals is higher than ever as both sides look to get back with a win. With Brynjar Gunnarsson brought into the first team today, little did he know he was going to score the best goal of his career. After Utrecht keeper Franck Grandel's free kick was headed back by Nicky Shorey, the ball fell to Icelandic international Gunnarsson, he looked up before taking a touch and attempting a speculative shot from the halfway line whilst Grandel was off his line. Sensationally the ball went in and Gunnarsson had scored from the half-way line in a dramatic turn of events. Reading looked positive today, as Leroy Lita's pressure paid off as he won the ball from the Utrecht defence, after drawing Tim Cornelisse and Alje Schut out to the left he cut the ball back to Dave Kitson. The gangly frontman shifted the ball left before firing home for 2-0 thanks to Grandel's touch.
After much Reading pressure, Utrecht got a goal back as Robin Nelisse headed home centre-back Alje Schut's corner for 2-1. After Nelisse's equiliser the game started to dull, and Reading ran out 2-1 winners.

FC Utrecht 1 - 2 Reading
22' Gunnarsson
35' Kitson [Lita]

Nelisse [Schut]

AEK Athens 1 - 0 Olympiacos
78' Blanco [Edson]

A greek derby was on the cards next, as AEK Athens and Olympiacos locked horns. Infulential forward Rivaldo lines up against his former employers. After a rather poor first half it was Olympiacos who looked the more likely side to break the deadlock, but it was AEK who had the majority of the possession, but failed to create anything. After a half dominated by Olympiacos who continued to thrust pressure upon AEK, it was AEK to strike first as Edson's cross from the right was met by Ismael Blanco's diving header for 1-0. Olympiacos had one final chance in the 90th minute as Luciano Galletti's cross was controlled by Darko Kovačević, but the Serb got the ball caught under his feet and failed to do something with it.

AS Monaco 3 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur
20' Piquionne [Nenê]
25' Almirón
56' Ricardo Rocha OG

67' Malbranque [Tainio]
72' Keane [Tainio]

After seeing AEK Athens' late winner against Olympiacos, both Tottenham Hotspur and AS Monaco will be looking for a win to shoot them up the table. A win for Spurs could broaden the gap between themselves and the chasing pack, whilst a Monaco win could pull the French side ahead of FC Utrecht. Monaco take the lead as the impressive Frédéric Piquionne heads home Nenê's corner for 1-0.
Monaco are looking hungry today though, as on loan Midfielder Sergio Almirón curls home a beauty of a free-kick from 26 yards out. A cracking free-kick. The second half starts pretty much the same as the first as another quality delivery from Nenê falls on the head of Portugese centre back Ricardo Rocha and into his own net. An unlucky twist of fate, but a well deserved goal for Monaco.
Tottenham haven't given up though as they grab their first goal of the game thanks to Steed Malbranque. After Teemu Tainio's pass into the box, the skilful Frenchman turns on a sixpunce before coolly slotting past Flavio Roma with the outside of his boot. A lifeline. This is amazing. Spurs have scored again, Teemu Tainio's corner is met by the head of Irishman Robbie Keane who powers a header home. Surely a third goal and equiliser isn't on the cards. Monaco hold out for their win, in a game which they almost threw away.

Table After Fixtures 4

re: Master League [3]

Division 2 - Fixture

The best chance of the first half came from a cross by Vlug which Darryl Roberts met on the run and it pinged off the bar into the crowd. Nice never really got going in attack but they looked solid in defence. Sparta on the other hand, will need to improve their defence if they want to challenge for promotion because they, in the few moments we have seen of Nice attacking, have been all over the shop.

Boukhari comes close with a shot shortly after half time, but it was an easy save for the keeper. A Boukhari cross is met by Vlug, but the keeper only parrys but Roberts blasted the ball over the top. A through ball splits the defence leaving Faé 1-on-1, with the keeper racing out he cheekily chips the ball over him and into the net. A neat passing move ends up with a cross from the right flank, Rose cuts inside but smashes it wide.

Final score 1-0

quote Joey Macintyre
Overall, I'm pleased with the play. I might try a new formation to give the defence more support, but going forward we're looking good, but we aren't quite good enough yet. I will look to bring in some more players in the transfer window, and I may look to sell some too. Moreno Freire has now returned from injury so I'll look to put him in the squad, we also need some support for Darryl [Roberts] up front. I'm pleased with what he's done so far, as I am with Nourdin [Boukhari] as captain. Being vice-captain he needs to help motivate the team and I think he mightn't be doing it as well as he can, 'cos he's frustrated by the lack of service and support.

re: Master League [3]

I'm thinking of starting a ML as first person point of view of me being a manager. But I don't quite think there's enough low league clubs or anything like that to do it with.

I'll have a think about it, because I really want to challenge myself. I may have to download an OF with lower league clubs on it. If I can find one of course.

Has anybody got any suggestions on who I could do a ML with , I would really like a club which hasn't got much potential like Pappi did , and so that I can build up a decent squad with youngsters from prem eg . Plessis , Mannone , Wilshere , Pacheco , Frazier Campbell

re: Master League [3]

When i played FC Utrecht they looked a decent outfit. They've got Van Der Gun the wing forward, and Schut in defence who's pretty capable. Can o well defensively but can also take set pieces. Plus their kit is pretty nice. A dutch team would be best to do, because they've only got a few really good sides. PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord, and Alkmaar are the sides whihc are as good as midtable prem sides. I'd suggest someone like Heracles or Roda. AEK Athens might be quite cool, plu s they have Rivaldo

PS - Anyone got any linkes, PESfan, Neo or whatever for some players i can create, to make my buying a bit more realistic?

So like Irish league players, Chmapionship league player, Scottish league players. No-one that wouldn't be a real Reading target For Next-gen too.
