Division 2 - Fixture 4 vs Bologna Sparta looked the better side as the two teams began, Sparta playing a new 4-5-1 formation that looks very solid. No real chances early on until Boukhari brok through on goal and took it the round the keeper, and would have surely scored had the keeper not taken him down. The keeper was subsequently sent off and a replacement was forced on as an instant replacement. Roberts stepped up and placed it in the middle of the goal, a calmly taken penalty. He came close again as he broke through but he could only send the ball wide. Bologna have a good chance at the start of the half with the left back breaking forward, only to hit the shot wide. Sparta instantly go down the other end and Boukhari wins it from the defender, weaves through 5 defenders and lays it off to Roberts who takes a touch and slots it home. The game had settled down a bit until van Beuren broke into the box got past a few defenders and slid it into the far corner. His second of the season. Final score 3-0

Reading FC : Royal Luck Puma Jubilee Tournament, August 12th 2007 Fixture 5 Tottenham Hotspur Robinson Chimbonda - Rocha - Woodgate - Assou-Ekotto Lennon - Jenas - Huddlestone - Malbranque Berbatov - Bent Reading Federici Murty - Bikey - Golbourne Little - Faé - Cisse - Matějovský - Convey Doyle - Kitson With the Puma Jubilee Tournament coming to a close today, the two top sides so far meet in what could be an entertaining affair. Reading manager Steve Coppell has deployed an adventurous 3-5-2 formation with 3 central midfielders,. Whilst Spus manager Juande Ramos has brang in Darren Bent for Irishman Robbie Keane. After Reading's 3-5-2 formation seemed to leave Kitson and Doyle isolated, manager Steve Coppell called for Kalifa Cissé to drop into the defence as centre back, the move proved costly though, as Spurs took the lead when Darren Bent's cute chip cross was met by Dimitar Berbatov who headed home for 1-0. A well deserved goal by all accounts. Reading are playing dreaful, perhaps a lack of energy and over fatigued, but Darren Bent makes it two on the stroke of hal-time with a coolly finished strike from a tight angle. After the break, and a half-time roasting Reading got a goal back. Marek Matějovský's corner was turnt home eventually by Kevin Doyle. After Spurs stopper Paul Robinson missed the ball after coming out to retrieve the ball struck Doyle on the face after both Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Tom Huddlestone failed to clear their lines. They've done it. After going behind to two goals on the back end of the first half, Reading have got the two goals they needed and eeked out an equiliser. After a swift counter attack from strikers Kevin Doyle and Dave Kitson, it was the former who got the equiliser after Kitson drove alow ball into the box, for Doyle to smash home. The game soon faded out as neither team were looking for an equiliser. Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 2 Reading 41' Berbatov [Bent] 45'+ Bent 54' Doyle 78' Doyle [Kitson] Olympiacos 0 - 0 AS Monaco With both sides with the chance to take over second place if the right results was obtained, both AS Monaco and Olympiacos would be looking to score some goals, and grab a win. Would a goalfest be on the card? It was not the case in the firs half as neither side could break the deadlock. Olympiacos looked ever the threat but failed to cease an opener in the first 45 minutes of play. After a second half similiar to the first Olympacios almost managed to hit the net. A lofted corner from Captain Predrag Djordjevic was headed down by the ever impressive Serb Darko Kovačević, whos header hit the post before he smashed the rebound high and wide in what turned out to be the closest thing to a goal in the day's second draw. Olympiacos will feel hard done by however have 9 shots, compared to Monaco's 2. AEK Athens 0 - 1 FC Utrecht 42' Van Der Gun With the two teams propping up the foot of the table playing last today, a win for Utrecht could hoist them up to as high as 3rd. Whilst a win for AEK could take them ahead of Utrecht and possibly fellow Greeks Olympiacos. Could Utrecht and AEK play out the first win of the day? After an evenly fought out, and end to end game, the games first goal came with a few minutes til half-time. After Akis Zikos was robbed of possession on his own the edge of his own penalty box, the impressive Cedric Van Der Gun stole possession before firing the ball home past AEK keeper Marcelo Moretto for 1-0. After a rather poor second half, Utrecht held on, and with this victory rise to third in the table. AEK stay rooted at the bottom. Flying all the way to Germany and then playing miserably, cannot have been the most enthralling way to spend your summer. Table After Fixtures 5 Pos | Team | Points | GS | GC 1 - Reading - 25pts - 14 - 7 2 - Tottenham Hotspur - 16pts - 9 - 9 3 - FC Utrecht - 12pts - 5 - 5 4 - AS Monaco - 11pts - 5 - 5 5 - Olympiacos - 10pts - 5 - 6 6 - AEK Athens - 6pts - 2 - 7

Reading FC : Royal Luck ![]() League Draw Takes Place, August 19th 2007 The very first EuroLiga draw took place this evening as UEFA President Michel Platini started the draw by picking out 19 teams to accompany Reading FC into Liga A, Division 2. The draw would work as follows. Teams will be ranked dependent on their overall performance in the 2006/07 season, along with any major performances being taken into account that may have occured domestically or in Europe over the last 3 years. This means clubs such as AC Milan and Manchester United would not be eligible to be drafted into League 2. Teams from different areas will also be chosen, for example 3 teams from France eligible for the draw will be chosen, then 2 Italian teams who are eligible to be chosen and so on and so fourth. The draw started with French sides Saint-Étienne, FC Lorient and SM Caen were all selected for League 2 as France's representatives. Two Italian sides would follow next as Atalanta and Empoli were chosen. After UEFA had came to the verdict over the sub-standard of the Eredivisie, a minority of Dutch clubs including Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, AL Alkmaar and Feyenoord were all given a by as to not be eligible to be drafted to Division 2. This meant that, due to the lack of quality in the Eredivisie a large amount of Dutch sides were drafted to Division 2. Heracles Almelo, Roda JC, Vitesse, FC Utrecht, Sparta Rotterdam, NAC Breda, FC Groningen and De Graafschap were all drafted into Division 2. Spains representatives were newly promoted Almeria and Getafe, whilst the final four teams from 'Rest of World' were ; Olympiacos, AEK Athens, AIK and Besiktas. Liga A, Division 2 ; A relatively strong Liga, to which the top 3 teams from Liga A, Division 2 will be promoted to at the end of every season. The likes of AS Roma, Tottenham Hotspur and Feyenoord look likely to make this an exciting season. Liga B, Division 1 ; Similiar to Liga A, the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayernn Munich among others gives Liga B the potential to be one of the most exciting liga's around. Darhorses such as Benfica and Real Zaragoza could also make the title race exciting. Liga C, Division 1 ; Quite possibly the most challenging their is at the moment. With Manchester United, Inter Milan, Juventus and Valencia heading the pack in hindsight, the liga has 4 quality sides who look to challenge for the title. Of course, when the top 4 are this good, the chasing pack are no slouches either. Impressive performances from Villarrael, Sevilla and Fiorentina could make Liga C the most watched liga in the world. Liga D, Division 1 ; The final Liga to be decided, and what a liga. With Chelsea, AC Milan and Lyon looking as potential liga winners the title race could be exciting. With surrouding teams such as Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Marseille and Fenerbahce, Liga D could fight with Liga C for the ratings. The season is scheduled to kick-off on September 3rd 2007, and will run until December 31st 2007. From January 1st 2008 til January 31st 2008, the transfer window will be open and all teams will endure a months break. The season will once again kick-off on February 1st and ends earlier than usual on May 30th 2008 thanks to the UEFA European Championships. Reading kick-off against Sparta Rotterdam, and a full house is predicted at the Madejski Stadium

Reading FC : Royal Luck ![]() Faé-ve Goal Thriller, September 12th 2007 After three games played of the season so far, Reading's form has been great. Their latest game ; an away tie against Spanish outfit Almería proved a suprisingly stubborn test. After ten changes were made from the previous game against Olympiacos, many were predicting Reading to have taken Almeria too lightly and to subsquently fail. As the game kicked off, it was as predicted, as Reading applied all the early pressure, and it paid as after 14 minutes, a loose ball was controlled by Czech Marek Matějovský, delivered a short pass to Emerse Faé. The Ivorian turned well with the ball, before unleasing a rasping drive with his left foot into the net. A great goal, and a well deserved lead for Reading. Neither Reading nor Faé were finished their though. Three minutes later, Reading had a second. After clever link-up play down the left from Nicky Shorey and American Bobby Convey, it was the latter who crossed a speculative ball into the box, where the eager Emerse Faé, stretched out a leg and poked home for 2-0 and his second of the game. With two goals scored, and Faé now on a hat-trick, Reading continued to attack. Their pressure paid off with a little under 10 minutes til half-time as yes, that man Emerse Faé wrapped up his hat-trick with a hard drive from the edge of the box which found the bottom left hand corner. This turnt out to be Faé's first career hat-trick at any level, and was completed in just 36 minutes. With Reading now on cruise control, the Royals took their foot off the gas, as they tried to play out the remainder of the game at their pace. But, after Stephen Hunt's corner was cleared by the Almería defence, a swift counter attack to the Reading goal, was halted by Ibrahima Sonko and out for a corner kick. The alert Álvaro Negredo took a quick corner and José Cabrera headed home with only one Reading defender to challenge him. A lifeline for the Andalusian's. Just 7 minutes later though, Almería were given a questionable penalty. After Álvaro Negredo battled his way into the box, he looked to have lost possession as Ívar Ingimarsson's attempted clearance struck Negredo's shin, and the Spaniard went down. Referee Tomaz Libopolpis pointed to the spot, and the Reading players were in outrage. With Ingimarsson, Sonko, Hahnemann and Murty all surrouding the Greek official, images of manager Steve Coppell could paint a thousand words. The whole stadium was in awe after Almería looked to have won a penalty thanks to Ingimarsson's clearance struck Negredo 'too hard' if you will. Álvaro Negredo, recovered in time to take the penalty himself though, and he coolly dispatched of it down the centre of the goal as a comeback was on the cards for Almería. In the last 10 minutes, Almería went for it as Negredo, Felipe Melo, José Ortiz and Juan Ortiz formed a 4 way strike force as Almería looked for an equiliser. After masses and masses of pressure though, it was Reading who hung on, as they clung to the 3 goals they scored in the first half and hung out for a narrow 3-2 win. Emerse Faé collected the match ball at the end aafter his sensational hat-trick. Emerse Faé said this on the win and his sensational hat-trick - Of course, of course. I'm very happy. Not everyday you score a hat-trick. But today was not just about what i did, it is about what the team did. We lookd comfortable, but was pushed right to the end by Almería who wouldn't give up. I give them credit for that, but have to say well done to the team for keeping strong and keeping the focus to see out the victory after Almería's late pressure. For me, it is not 3 goals scored, it is 3 points won. Although i did enjoy scoring my goals'. Reading now top the table with 9 points out of 9. The other 6 points came from their two previous wins. AEK Athens are Reading's closest challengers at this early stage, but are two points adrift of the Royals. The first, a solid 2-0 triumph against Sparta Rotterdam at the Madejski Stadium was won with a headed goal from Icelandic star Ívar Ingimarsson and a tap-in from Dave Kitson. Reading continued their winning ways as they pulled through a tricky encounter with Olympiacos in Greece. After an early goal from Kevin Doyle, which he smashed home with a majestic volley from Shane Long's cross, Olympiacos then drew one back as Cypriot Michalis Konstantinou bundled home an equiliser. Reading were to hit back though as Kalifa Cissé broke through the Olympiacos defence before striking a shot which cannoned off the underside of the bar to give Reading a 2-1 victory in Greece. Next up is a clash with French side Saint-Étienne. Recent Results Reading 2 - 0 Sparta Rotterdam Olympiacos 1 - 2 Reading Almeria 2 - 3 Reading This message was edited by Junior Messi on Aug 15 2008. Reading FC : Royal Luck ![]() Ice Cool, September 27th 2007 After a trio of victories already in the bag, Reading continued their early season dominance with another impressive trio of games. With AEK hot on their heels, Reading knew they would need to continue their run if they wished to open up a gap to their followers. With the first of the latest batch of games a home tie to Saint-Étienne. With a jam-packed Madejski Stadium and the sun shining bright, the stage was set for a hopefully epic encounter between two of the league's pre-season promotion candidates. With Reading struck by fatigue and injury worries, they were forced to deploy a less than full strenght side, which say Glenn Little partnering Irishman Shane Long up front. After dominant early pressure from Reading, Saint-Étienne took the lead against the run of play. A swift counter attack lead to Bafétimbi Gomis picking out Pascal Feindouno in space, the Guinea international then curled his shot around Adam Federici in the Reading goal for 1-0 just before half-time. After the break though, it was Reading who still maintained all the pressure. Their pressure soon paid off in the later stages as they earned an equilsier. After Glenn Little's surging run down the right, he pulled back a cross to strike partner Shane Long, who smashed the ball home for 1-1. A well deserved equiliser for the Royals, as both sides settled for a point. Reading were then to face two Dutch side's in two weeks as they took Heracles Almelo at the Madejski before a trip to Groningen and the Euroborg. With the third game at the Madejski this year another sellout the fans were left happy. After a tentative first half, Reading got a late goal and due winner. After Stephen Hunt swung a deep corner into the box, the leap of Shane Long got an important touch as the ball fell to Icelandic centre halve Ívar Ingimarsson who's diving header nestled in the corner of the net, grabbing the Royals all 3 points. Ingimarsson wasn't done their though, as 3 days later in Holland, he scored again. In a bad tempered game in Groningen. Subsititute and fellow Iceland international Brynjar Gunnarsson was sent for an early bath after a rash but seemingly bookable offence on the half-way line. Steve Coppell was not amused. Stephen Hunt also picked up a booking after a tussle with Groningen keeper Brian Van Loo after the Dutch stopper was alledged to have called Hunt a pikey. Reading did however see out the storm and pull out an important first half goal before the bad tempers rose. After Hunt's corner was curled in, the Icelandic defender Ívar Ingimarsson leapt highest to power a header home for Reading. Reading held out for the winand maintained their status at the helm of the table. Reading are two points clear of AEK Athens still who look to be Reading's early season challengers. Ingimarsson and Emerse Faé are both joint second in the scoring charts after 6 games as both sit pretty with 3 goals each. Recent Results Reading 1 - 1 Saint-Étienne Reading 1 - 0 Heracles Almelo FC Groningen 0 - 1 Reading This message was edited by Junior Messi on Aug 15 2008.

Sunderland A.F.C. Sunderland vs Celtic Sunderland Gordon Witehead - McShane - Nosworthy - Wallace K.Richardson - Etuhu - Yorke - Edwards Jones - Chopra Celtic Brown Wilson - McManus - Kennedy - Naylor Nakamura - Donati - Brown - McGeady Zurawski - Vennegoor The opening pre-season fixture starts with to sides with completely different aims for the new season. Sunderland, are aiming for promotion to Division 1 and Celtic aiming for a Champions League spot this should produce a good encounter here at the Stadium of Light. And its Celtic that start off brighter with Nakamura and McGeady pulling Sunderland's full-backs apart with speed and accuracy down the flanks but all crosses so far have been cut out by solid defending fromNosworthy and McShane. A corner to Celtic is cleared away by Nosworthy and Sunderland bgin to counter with Richarson on the right hand side who plays a neat one-two with Michael Chopra before his pin-point cross is met by Kenwyne Jones who heads in the opener. It didn't take long for the Scottish champions to find the equiliser as judt 14 minutes later an accurate through ball finds Zurawski who slides the ball past Craig Gordon and in to the net. With half time approaching Sunderland step up there game with flowing movement accross the park and narrowly miss the target twice from long range, the first from Yorke and the second form Etuhu before Edward plays a lovely long ball foward to Jones who flicks it on with his head straight into the path of Kieran Richardson who finish's from a tight angle to give Sunderland the lead going into half time. HT - 2-1 The match didn't really get going after that, with Celtic retaing possesion in the midfield and using the wide men to penetrate the Sunderland defence. A rough takle by Paul McShane earns him a Yellow card and a Celtic free kick which Nakamura is standing over. And thats a brilliant free kick, left foot into the top left hand corner to equilise for Celic, and it might be to late for Sunderland to recover. Sunderland kept the pressure up creating some diamond oportunities to take the lead. Corner to Sunderland and there throwing bodies foward in order to grab the winner. brilliant cross in to the far post is met by the head of Nyron Nosworthy who secures thye victory for Sunderland in the dying seconds. FT - 3-2 Scorers Jones'7 Zurawski'21 Richardson'44 Nakamura'76 Nosworthy'88
