Reading FC : Royal Luck

Reading Fined £567,000, October 9th 2007

October started brightly for Reading. Top of the table, goals from all over the park, and fans optimistic as ever of promotion. After 6 games undefeated, Reading took on France's SM Caen at the Madejski Stadium. With a strong side out on show, Reading took the lead early on. Stephen Hunt's 10th minute corner was whipped into the danger zone, Caen keeper Vincent Planté's attempted punch only went as far as to Irishman Kevin Doyle's head, as Doyle headed the ball into a gaping net for 1-0. Reading looked to be putting on a show as they scored a second soon after. After Jimmy Kébé's dogged tackling gained possession inside the Caen half, he cut the ball back to Dave Kitson, he took a touch before laying the ball off to Kevin Doyle to score his second of the game. After the break it much of the same, Dave Kitson got himself in on the act as he latched onto Stephen Hunt's through ball before firing past Planté for 3-0. The game was ultimately won though soon after, Kevin Doyle got his hat-trick with a fine goal. After more good work down the left from countryman Stephen Hunt, the winger layed a precise through ball into the box for Doyle, who beat the Planté to it, and chipped the ball into the net for 4-0. Doyle is the second Reading player this season so far to have scored a hat-trick, as Reading capped off a dominant display in their first game of October.

Not all was to remain sweet for Reading though as their trip to Holland to face Roda JC, would set records for the wrong reason. After naming a below strength side for the game, after numerous injuries, Reading manager Steve Coppell would have been happy with a point. The game started poorly for Reading though as Roda went 2-0 ahead within the first 12 minutes. Estonian Andres Oper and Belgian Dieter Van Tornhout scoring the goals. The game went from bad to worse next as stand in Striker Simon Cox, was fouled on the edge of the area by Jan-Paul Saeijs. Cox was left in agony on the ground as replays showed Saeijs raking his studs down the back of Cox's ankle. Referee Ryan Sole, dismissed the claims, and Reading had to make do with 10 men up until half-time, as Cox was adamant to play on despite suspected ligament damage. If being 2-0 down after 20 or so minutes, and having your stand in striker wasn't bad enough, then James Harper's 28th minute dismissal for a rather rash, but seemingly bookable offence, only made things worse. Cox made a valiant recovery , but was almost non existent as he could barely move. With a minute til half-time, Andres Oper made it 3-0. With half-time, came changes. Cox was eventually brought off for good, whilst Marek Matějovský and Nicky Shorey followed him. Strikers Kevin Doyle and Dave Kitson came on along with Midfielder Emerse Faé. Not much changed in the second half as Reading continued to be frustrated with a lack of creativity and movement. They were soon made to pay as Dieter Van Tornhout scored his second of the game with a cool finish from a tight angle. Tempers then started to flare, as with Reading looking for at least one goal, Centre Back Ívar Ingimarsson was shown a straight red in peculiar circumstances. Stephen Hunt whipped in a trademark corner, as as Ingimarsson leapt highest, to meet the corner and head home, his goal was chalked off, and he was shown a straight red for an 'elbow'. Reading were left amazed as they were now 4-0 down with only 9 men on the pitch. Could it get any worse? The answer was yes. With Reading applying all the pressure, a well defended corner from Roda saw Shane Long kick out at Boldizsár Bodor and saw the Irishman dismissed. Roda then scored a fifth as Andres Oper ran the length of the pitch before finishing past Marcus Hahnemann. Reading were then reduced two more men. Emerse Faé was dismissed for a shirt tug whilst John Oster saw red for a foul in the box, Marcel Meeuwis stood up to take the penalty and smashed it into the top corner. With Reading with just 6 men left on the pitch referee R. Sole called an end to proceedings with Roda winning 6-0.

After a court enquiry later in the evening, UEFA fined Reading FC over £500,000 for the lack of discinplinary. They also fined referee R.Sole for his poor showing. Sole failed to spot a possible sending off offence by Saeijs on Simon Cox, which left the Reading man needing to be substituted. He also was disciplined ofr his peculiar sendings off of Ívar Ingimarsson and Emerse Faé. Reading manager Steve Coppell was unable to comment but Captain Graeme Murty was able for a brief statement. Murty said - 'Of course, the Gaffers pissed off. He has just seen his side lose 6-0, and seen a rather ghastly showing from the referee. I'm not usually one to critiscize but, if he can say a shirt tug is a sending off but a rake on someone's ankle isn't i don't know what he's doing refereeing. He'd be better off refereeing Bowls.'
UEFA later went on to announce that Roda's 6-0 scoreline would not be counted, as the match had to be abandoned due to the lack of Reading players left on the pitch. Roda however where awarded the customary 3-0 victory for this circumstance and Estonian Andres Oper was thus not awarded his hat-trick, and was seemingly 'disgraced with both the referee and UEFA's ruling'. Oper was later fined £10,000 for his words about UEFA.

FC Groningen
The Impossible made Possible

New Coach in Groningen!

FC Groningen last week mentioned about a new beginning coming along , well Today it's been announced that Holland & Arsenal Legend , Dennis Bergkamp has taken over as new manager , this is his first taste of managerial experience. With the January transfer window drawing ever nearer, the Dutch legend said this:

Dennis Bergkamp: " I am very pleased about getting the job , I had a few offers on the table including some big clubs , but I thought to myself , Start strong end strong , or , Start low end high? , I no already that I have made the right decision. Although many clubs are stronger then Groningen at this point in time, the old manager Ronald Koeman has done a incredibly amazing job with this group of talented players.

This was a section from Dennis Bergkamp's News Conference from this morning, our reporter Joe Headley met with him an hour ago and this is what he had to say:

Reporter: "Dennis, This must be a major step in your career as a manager?"

Dennis Bergkamp: "Yes , I agree , Becoming a manager after a few years out of football is really good for me , I have missed football allot although I have been participating in school training groups , it doesn't get any better than being at top level football , after being there as a player."

Reporter: "Oh I see your team coach is leaving now, you don't want to be holding everyone up now do you."

Dennis Bergkamp: "No, I don't, Bye."

Reporter: "Thanks for your time Dennis, Joe Headley reporting for SKY SPORTS NEWS."

A Team on a high at this point in time has something more to cheer about. We'll bring more information to you as we get it. After the break we have ............

Andreas Granqvist

With a chance to prove himself now at Groningen , Granqvist didn't have the season he was hoping for last season with the Latics , Wigan let him go to Groningen for a low price , We are all here expecting him to rise up to the occasion and help Groningen get the promotion to the big leagues , that they have been waiting for a long time for.

NAC Breda: A New Begining

Avram Grant Replaces Brandts As Manager, 15th August 2007

Former Chelsea manager Avram Grant has been announced the new manager of dutch football club NAC Breda after there current manager Ernie Brandts departed for unknown circumstance's.

Grant,53 will join the team tomorrow, and will get the chance to see them train ahead of there opening fixture of the season against fellow Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam on the 23rd August.
Avram Grant: 'This will be a great oportunity to manage a very good club with lots of potential, and with the mix of players amongst the side we can hope for a very successful season and hopefully give the fans something to remember. When the club came in for me i accepted the offer straight away because i believe this club has a lot to offer for the future. My main aim for now though is to earn promotion so this club can start competing against the big teams, wee they belong.'

Sky Sports New also spoke to some of the current squad on the arrival of Avram Grant, and this is some of the feedback:
Matthew Amoah: 'It is very exciting to have a new manager at the club and im sure he will do a great job here and i cant wait to get started under him. We know he is a great manager and he done a great job with Chelsea, so lets give him a chance.'

Edwin Zoetebier: 'We all know what a great manager Avram is, and im sure he will bring excitement and enthusiasm to the club and he should have a successful time with him as manager. When i heard that Avram Grant was on the club's wanted list, i was very excited and i am glad that the club chose him as manager.'

With the current squad pleased with Grants arrival and the club looking at brighter things, could this be a new era of league title's and trophies at NAC Brada, will they be able to compete at the highest level's of club football? Will Grant make history with the club?
The new season is one to watch, and NAC is the club to watch but will they gain promotion?...

Matthew Amoah will be a key part of Avram Grants success with NAC and will be there key source for goals. He will be looking to impress this season and get on the goal rankings and he is definitely one to watch in an NAC shirt and is likely to be there most consistant striker.

NAC Breda: A New Begining

NAC Make Wonder Start, 1st September 2007

NAC Breda kicked off there Division 2 campaign against Sparta Rotterdam on the 23rd August, and was Avram Grants first match incharge of the club. NAC produced a sell out crowd at there Rat Verlegh Stadion as there fans were eager to see them play under there new manager.
And they didn't disappoint early on as NAC created several chances to take the led with dangerous crossing from wingers Victor Sikora and Joonas Kolkka. It was Sparta who scored firdt though, against the run of play Sparta broke down the left wing, and a pin-point cross was met by striker Darryl Roberts who headed home from close range on 11 minutes to put the visitors 1-0 up.
The NAC hopeful began to get restless as they watched there team waste many chances infront os goal. The equiliser did come though as Victor Sikora cut inside and his saved shot come of the back of defender Adeleye who put through his own net. So 1-1 and Breda still looking the better side going into half time. Matthew Asamoah plays a neat one-two with Kurt Elshot before placing the ball home to give NAC the lead going into half time, but his half time strike still fails to put a smile on Avram Grant's face.
The second half produced more chances for NAC Breda but the fail to convert, and Sparta cant get into the oposition area thanks to good NAC defending. The match finished 2-1 and gives NAC great confidence going into there second game of the season away to Touluse.

NAC Breda travelled to France for there leage encounter with Tolouse FC in Avram Grant's first away game as manager.
It was the home side who controlled he first half creating good chances to take the lead but thanks to super saves from NAC keeper Edwin Zoetebier denying Tolouse from all angles.
After a dull first half NAC Beda started brightly, playing neat passing football and releasing there wingers in order to penetrate the Tolouse defence. And the goal did finally come on th 58th minute when Matthew Amoah headed his second goal of the season thanks to a Joonas Kolkka cross. And it didn't take long for NAC to grab a second as center-midielder Ron Stam headed Victor Sikora's cros from a tight angle to give NAC a 2-0 lead. After that the pace of the game slowed and only a couple of chances came late on as Tolouse failed to apply enough pressure on the NAC back line. The match finished 2-0 and NAC grab 6 points out of a possible 6.

The Umbro Cup Fixture 1

FC Groningen V Rangers

Teams:

The Rangers squad had their full team out to face the Green-White army of Groningen. The Rangers coach , Walter smith , was expecting a good , fighting performance from Groningen. He was also looking forward to see how the Gers would cope with 2 games in 2 days if they made it through to the final. Dennis Bergkamp took some time out before the match too go out onto the pitch surrounded by 22,000 cheering Groningen fans that had made the trip to London to see their team in action. Wembley was the venue of this one off cup , although the pitch may not be in it's best shape or form , were still in for some thrilling games. The noise is electric with streamers and flags from the fans , this is really the perfect venue , atmosphere and weather for this cup. After all of the pre-match build up , the new Groningen manager , Dennis Bergkamp , had returned from football where he made his name , London , Mike Griffinberg is with him now:

Reporter: "Dennis , How nervous are you about your first game in charge?"

Dennis Bergkamp: "Well I am very nervous as I have to lead my team to victory and try and win the cup , we could of been drawn against easier opponents , although this will be a very good warm up for us to get used to Rangers as we have them in the league in a few weeks."

Reporter: "Are you concerned at all about the fitness of Marcus Berg , as he seems to be left out today?"

Dennis Bergkamp: "Well he picked up a knock in training yesterday and I didn't want to risk him today , I may rest him until the league match if we proceed in the cup."

Reporter: "Will he maybe play tomorrow then , if you win here today?"

Dennis Bergkamp: "I wouldn't like to say at the moment due to me not knowing his fitness at this point in time."

Reporter: "OK , Thanks for your time Dennis. back to the studio."

Dennis Believes that his side are strong , and that their is nothing holding them from winning this tournament , let's find out , here's kick off , to our commentators , Gary Linekar & Alan Sharer.

Gary Linekar: Well hello everyone , we are in for a treat today as Groningen are looking for their first piece of silverware in a long long time. They have both put out strong line ups and Dennis Bergkamp earlier said that we may not see Berg all tournament is a shock change and is now starting against a full Rangers squad.
well the players are coming out now and the match is about to begin.

Groningen kicked things off in high spirit. The fans let out a massive cheer as the game began , with the match starting rather slow the first shot of the game didn't come until the 17th minute , when Gronigen broke with Granqvist and a through ball to Berg set him on the run at the Gers defence. Levchenko was screaming for the ball in the middle of the Rangers 18-yard box and the perfect ball into him was delivered , he somehow headed over the bar from 10 yards , he wasn't pleased with himself. The half time whistle came and the match had only the 1 real chance for someone to open the level score before the interval. The teams came out for the second half of this rather average match , the crowd , teams , us , and everyone watching were probably hoping for a much better second half , Rangers started the second half on a high as Boyd was played through by Barry Ferguson and Boyd hit it straight into Van Loo's arms for a comfortable save. Nothing happened except defences getting the better side of the attackers until the 84th minute. Berg had the opportunity this time and the young Swede took the shot on the outside of his boot but he didn't get all the power he would of been hoping for. The final whistle was approaching and the score was still 0-0 , the referee , Howard Webb , blew for the final whistle and the teams looked very disappointed. Extra time was the next chapter in this long story , although things were looking up in this extra 30 minutes , Rangers where the real team pressing for the win with 5 shots coming from them in the opening 15 minutes , the second 15 came and Rangers captain Barry Ferguson hit a beauty of a free kick and was tipped onto the under side of the crossbar , it could of gone anywhere but the defender whacked it away out of touch for a throw. The end of the extra time came and Groningen had somehow held onto the score and keep it at 0-0. Dennis Bergkamp would of been hoping for a really good goalkeeping performance from his captain and Groningen goalkeeper van Loo. The first taker was Groningen wonder kid Marcus Berg , he slotted it coolly into the bottom right hand corner , Rangers forward Darcheville stepped up and fired into the top right this time nearly busting the net at the same time. Pressure got to Levchenko of Groningen as he hit it to the bottom left and the Rangers keeper McGregor saved it with ease. Rangers went on to score all of the penalties and Groningen all but one , final score 5-4 to Rangers , Groningen had a early exit to the competition and Dennis Bergkamp was still happy with the teams display of talent.

Rangers went on to win Umbro cup 2-0 in the final against West Ham

re: Master League [3]

Hey all, not sure if this is allowed; I had posted a ML I recently began in the PES 6 forum, but I'm getting PES 2008 this week. Hopefully I can pull off the ML the way I had it before. Anyways, here it is:

I recently started a ML in PES6 with an idea to make the game more challenging and fun (beating Chelsea or Bayern 4-0 each year in the same CL final gets boring after 6-7 seasons). I took the strongest clubs from the game, and added a mess of North, South, and Central American clubs to mold this ML:

Europe A
Europe B
Europe C
The Americas

I added the giants of South America, along with strong teams from North and Central America. The Americas league looks like so:

Division 1
--------------
Peñarol (URU)<---- began the ML with
Nacional (URU)
Defensor Sporting (URU)
Boca Juniors (ARG)
River Plate (ARG)
Atletico Nacional (COL)
Liga de Quito (ECU)
Internacional (BRA)
Universidad (PER)
Dep. Saprissa (CRC)
Motagua (HON)
Olimpia (PAR)
LA Galaxy (USA)
The Strongest (BOL)
Colo-Colo (CHL)
America (MEX)

Division 2
--------------
Uni. de Chile (CHL)
Chivas de Guadalajara (MEX)
Gremio (BRA)
Barcelona SC (ECU)
Alianza Lima (PER)
Maracaibo (VEN)
Cerro Porteño (PAR)
Chicago Fire (USA)

Each team has up-to-date rosters, kits, stats, apps for 95% of the clubs (a few players I couldn't find pics for). I made the following changes too:

Div. 2 Cup ---> South American Cup
Div. 1 Cup ---> Liberators Cup
EFA Cup ---> the old Intercontinental Cup (for the sake of having something to replace it)
Champions League ---> Club World Cup (strangely played with group stages, unlike the real thing)

ALL the clubs in the game, every league, have updated rosters as of the end of the 07-08 season, so with all players who are either in a club NOT in the game or have retired, I replaced them with top players from around the world that didn't make it into the game. Great players from the MLS, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, and South America are free agents waiting to be signed. I did include players from the Bundesliga and other leagues who aren't in the game, too.

Also, to make the later years in the ML interesting, I added a collection of youth players from the U-17 World Cup played in S. Korea 2007 -- also free agents.

Please tell me what you think of it. Thanks!

Reading FC : Royal Luck

Reading Romp To Cup Victory, November 2nd 2007

Still leading in the table, and now marking their assault on the D2 Cup. Reading went into the tie with French side Saint-Étienne in good form. After their dreadful showing against Roda JC, they met fellow Dutch side FC Utrecht. With goals in the first and the last minute securing the game. With just 37 seconds on the clock, Dave Kitson won possession in the Utrecht half, he ran on towards the edge of the Utrecht box before squaring the ball to Kevin Doyle to knock home for 1-0. A well deserved winner in the last minute came as Dave Kitson's diving header found the net, after Kevin Doyle had crossed. The Royals then gained two 2-2 draws, with the first of which to Getafe. After the Spaniards took the lead after Fabio Celestini opened the scoring. Reading hit back before the break though, as the experienced Michael Duberry struck the Getafe defence by storm as he powered home a tight angled shot between keeper and post for the equilsier. In an end to end game, Getafe scored once more. After evading the Reading defence, Javier Casquero made it through on the Reading goal before curling his effort around Mikkel Andersen. Reading did equilise though courtesy of Shane Long. The young Irishman made strides from his own half, before unleashing a powerful drive from the edge of the box in the 94th minute as the Reading faithful went ballistic. Reading then drew to De Graafschap. Niklas Tarvarjarvi scored for the visitors first as he rose highest to header home Schuurman's corner for 1-0. Reading were soon level though as a moment of brilliance from Glenn Little grabbed Reading the equiliser. After cutting into the box, Little excecuted the move known as the Rabona as his effort flew into the net. A fantastic goal. As with the last game it was the visitors once more who scored the third of the game as Donny de Groot slotted his effort past Hahnemann after he controlled Frankel's pass. Reading were once again resilient though, and as with the previous game, it was Shane Long who delivered the goods. As Dave Kitson mugged possession in the De Graafschap box, he shot but was denied, thankfully for Long the ball fell to him, and he slotted home from a difficult angle. Reading then met Swedish outfit AIK. With a much changed side, it was Reading who took the lead. With the Lita and Long partnership up front, the two combined early on as Leroy Lita poked home Shane Long's cross for 1-0 after 12 minutes. After a comfortable first half, they made it two after the break. Scottish full-back and captain Graeme Murty drilled in a low cross which was met by Ivorian Emerse Faé. The Ivorian has now scored four goals so far this term. Shane Long made it three next, scoring his third in as many games. After Kevin Doyle won possession, he layed the ball off to fellow Republic of Ireland team mate Shane Long who rounded the keeper before slotting home. Their was some consolation for AIK though as Wílton Figueiredo scored a late consolation.

Reading's tie with Saint-Étienne started badly for the hosts as the French side opened the scoring. After a defensive misunderstanding from Scott Golbourne and Alex Pearce, Bafétimbi Gomis mugged possession before crossing for Ilan to slot home. Reading soon got one back though as after Kevin Doyle drifted out to the right wing, he crossed for Emerse Faé and the Midfielder smashed home for 1-1. After the break Reading got in front. Leroy Lita's pesistance in the box, reaped the rewards as he was apparently fouled, luckily the ball fell to Kevin Doyle who turnt and fired home. The next goal was simply masterful. After the game had seemingly gone flat, a piece of magic from both Marek Matějovský and James Henry grabbed Reading's third. Matějovský turnt in midfield space, whilst Henry timed his run to perfection, Matějovský slipped a pin point through ball to Henry, the winger controlled before slotting past Jody Viviani. The game was not done yet though, as Kevin Doyle scored his second of the game. After obtaining the ball in his own half, the forward made inroads into the Etienne half, he beat three players before dummying Viviani and slotting home the fourth, another great goal. Reading look certain to progress to the next round as their 3 goal lead, could be too much for Etienne to pull back.

Juventus: An Italian Revolution

Marcelo Lippi Replaces Ranieri as Manager

Juventus have announced Italian head coach Marcelo Lippi as the man to succeed Claudio Ranieri as manager of Italian giants Juventus. The Juventus board can confirm that Claudio Ranieri left for personal reasons and they expressed there delight of having Marcelo Lippi as a replacement. Marcelo Lippi arrived on time for Juventus's opening game of the Serie A season against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Marcelo Lippi: 'Im am very excited at the challenge this job brings and Juventus has a great squad and posses some great talent. Many of the players I already know from the Italian national team including Alessandro(Del Piero), Mauro(Camoranesi) and Gianluigi(Buffon) and they are all great players and i cant wait to work with them at club level'.

I like discipline and fitness and they ae the two main things we will work on in training aswell as playing creative and skillful football. We have an experienced squad with lots of good talent and hopefullly that will be our key to success this season. I hope to win the league and win the Champions League with Juventus and after a couple of seasons I think we can make it happen.
