re: Master League [3]

you know wat i just realized
YOU SCORE BARE
fudge me.
i only average like, two goals a game
but probably unlike you,
i never go straight for goal
i enjoy keeping possession
and working the wings
getting the ball in from wide
and bam in with the head
or of course any shot from inside the box
as soon as i get in there
BAM
lol.

'The Academy Of Football'

I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.
They fly so high,
Nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams,
They fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere,
I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.

Manager: Gianfranco Zola

Noble Named Captain!

Gianfranco Zola's first job as manager was naming a new captain ahead of the 08/09 Premierleague season and shocked many West Ham fans buy announcing England U-21 midfielder Mark Noble as club captain.

Highly-rated homegrown talent Mark Noble simply goes from strength to strength in the heat and heart of the West Ham United midfield.

The former Woodside and Royal Docks schoolboy was initially snapped up by Arsenal as a kid but the Canning Town youngster's first love was always West Ham United and, forsaking his Highbury complimentary tickets, he was a regular spectator at the Boleyn Ground with his claret and blue-blooded family.

'It ia a great achievement for me and has come as a great surprise as i am still only young, but West Ham is were i want to be and wearing the arm-band will prove i am commited to team. It is now my job to lead the team to victory and we a confident of playing good football. since Gianfranco(Zola) and Steve(Clarke) arrived we have been trying new tactics and the players are exciteted at the change and everyone is pushing for a starting place and trying to impress the new manager.'

West Ham vs PSV Eidenhoven, pre-season friendly, 24th July 2008, Boleyn Ground, 3.00pm kick off.

Pre-Season Friendly, 24th July 2008

West Ham vs PSV Eindhoven

A bright afternoon in east London as Gianfranco Zola's men welcome Dutch side PSV Eindhoven to the Boleyn ground in this pre-season friendly ahead of the 08/09 campaign.

Ilunga, Di Michele, Etherington and Davenport all start and Mark Noble, playing in his first match as club captain, and Valon Behrami will look to win the midfield battle against Ibrahim Afellay and De Jong.

But it was the away side who struck first, with neat play oppening up the hammers defense allowing jefferson Farfan to get in behind the defense and slot past the dvancing Green for 1-0. Matthew Etherington had a chance to level things up but his left footed effort went just wide of the post. Di Michele tried to lob the keeper but only found the roof of the net and Alcides had an excellent 30-yard thunderbolt saved by Robert Green.

West Ham started the second half brihtly and managed an equiliser from a Faubert corner which was headed out but only as far as Noble who's long range effort found the bottom corner of the goal making it 1-1. West Ham were doing well keeping the Dutch champions quiet and the Upton park faithful were enjoying the fast quick fire play of the home team. As full time was approaching, youngster Kyel Reid provided a superb left footed cross which was met by David Di Michele who volleyed in the winner and left PSV shaken and the home fans delighted.

Zola:'I am pleased with how the team played and the showed the fans what to expect from us in the new season. I am glad we didn't give up and we done well to come from behind against such a big club and there is a lot of things we can take from the game and i cant wait for the season to start.'

Man Of The Match: Mark Noble 7.5

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR CROWNED CHAMPIONS
New Manager Proves Power

So the season is at an end. A warm mixture of highs and lows, Cup triumphs and Shock League wins.. Tottenham's season really had it all. And to cap it all off, after their first season in the Master Leage division One, they were crowned champions in the final league fixture, winning 3-0 against bitter rivals Arsenal FC.

It was only at the halfway point in the season, when many saw the negotiation period as a chance for Spurs to get their season back on track after a recent run of poor results and a lucky second round first leg win in the D1 Cup, that they were sat in a surprisingly low position of 8th, with no success against teams including Sunderland, Blackburn and Manchester City- all teams Tottenham were seeing as a proving point to see how successful they really can be.

But ALAS, after a quiet transfer season, with just one transfer (being the signing of 17 year-old Ninis, who signed a free contract for the club) in the four weeks at the middle of the season they came out on top, with an amazing 12 victory's in the second half of the season, with just one loss and two draws- being against Manchester United and Newcastle United.
And to add to that, Manager Juande Ramos recieved a pleasing bonus of thirty mil to spend in the upcoming post-season transfer market.

So all in all, the season was a great success for the Spurs, a 1st place finish. (A point ahead of Chelsea), and a damning 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the Division One Cup.. Silencing any critics they had just ten or so weeks into the year..

THE NEW SEASON BEGINS HERE!
Tottenham reveal fixtures and transfer list favourites..

So, after a great end to the season, holding League Champions Tottenham Hotspur are already making big plans for the next three seasons, let alone the next, with their new 'Three-Year Plan'.

Ramos, who has recently signed a two-year extension to his contract which keeps him there until 2011, spoke recently to our sources of how he is hoping the next few years will go for Spurs;

"Obviously we are delighted at our opening season success, I'm sure no one could have foreseen that coming and we are utmost proud of ourselves, the fans and just what we have proved we can achieve.. But we feel this is just a stepping stone. Sure, we did the big thing by winning the league and cup, but we want to biuld on this."

He expanded: "We want to carry on this brilliant success by winning the league again next term and the Cup. We need to prove our strength and by winning the title and cup again we feel we can do this. There are also many little things we feel we need to improve on, such as concending poor goals when we are two or three ahead, and winning games when we are playing poor.. as well as when we're playing well. We also feel that we need to do better against the better teams, such as Chelsea.."

Tottenham lost to Chelsea both home and away last season, both 2-1. "We need to also buy big. We are increasing in our team size, whilst at the same time reducing our teams age. We want to be strong, but young, to build on even moreso in the future. Hence why we are buying players to replace the ones with ages such as over 28, not becuase we don't want them- it is the experience that matters- but there will be a time when the King's and the Woodgate's will have to retire and we will want a young strong player to be able to step up to replace them.."

After this interview, Tottenham released a statement detailed their post-season interest and information:

Tottenham Hotspur Pre-Season Fixtures:
H) Bayern Munchen. (Germany)
H) Club Sevilla de Football. (Spain)
H) Milano AC. (Italy)

TRANSFER LIST 2007-2008:

Goalkeepers;
Akinfeev.
Defenders;
Garay, Kompany.
Midfielders;
Fabio C., Wijnaldum.
Forwards;
Benzema, Petric.

Tottenham have signed;
Wijnaldum (£1mil)
Benzema (£12mil)
Garay (£2mil)
