Chelsea FC 2-2 Sunderland AFC
Current Sunderland AFC manager, C WC A, is going to be focused on winning against his old team today. Chelsea obviously was expected to win this game easily but Sunderland put up a fight and in the 21st minute, David Healy, put away a fantastic shot from 12yards out after Keiron Richardson's through ball. Sunderland had problems 3minutes later as there left-back, Nosworthy, got injured, Sunderland was forced to play Teemu Tainio in left-back, Sunderland now have no left-backs available for when Manchester United come. In the 53rd minute, after Craig Gordon hit his own defender and dropped the ball, Didier Drogba picked up the ball and fired it in from 20yards out. Chelsea then took the lead in the 75th minute as Didier Drogba put away a header after a Frank Lampard corner. Chelsea seemed to have won until in the 90th+ minute, Sunderland got a free kick right on the edge of the area, after right-back Michael Essien tripped Djibril Cisse, Keiron Richardson and Anton Ferdinand was both standing over the ball, and then Anton Ferdinand shot and amazingly his shot was deflected in off Petr Cech's hand. Sunderland walked away with a happy point, but for Chelsea it was a disappointing afternoon.

Spoiler: POOR SEASON OPENER
A poor opener to the season, with the fans bustling around the White Hart Lane stadium, neither side really took charge- both appearing sloppy in their play with mislaid passes and tame efforts on goal which came few and far between. In the end, with just a mere 13 minutes left on the clock, Tottenham left-winger David Powell broke free to hammer in a low ball across the six yard box which saw Bent flick in off of Nzom Gol for 1-0, the game then stayed that way until the end of the match, with Spurs keeping a lot more possession in and around their own half towards the end of the match. Other Results: FC Red Star Beograd 2-2 SBV Excelsior, AS Saint Ettiene 1-0 IFK Goteborg, FC Basel 1893 2-1 NK Dinamo Zagreb.
Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 FC Red Star Beograd Scorers; Jenas (Ekotto)
Spoiler: SPURS IMPROVE
The second game of the season saw Spurs improve slightly in their possession play at the start of the match. They dominated the first half with 64% of the possessoion at the end of the 45, as well as a well-worked goal from Jermaine Jenas to go with it. Taraabt and Modric smart played a one two, with Taraabt then feeding Ekotto over the top, who chipped the ball in nicely for Jenas to easily nod in from close range. The game got a little stretched in the second half, neither side had many chances, the most notable was an offside decision that shouldn't have been, which saw Modric burst through the defence from Taraabt's low volleyed cross. But two games, two wins and Tottenham sit second in the table- quite happily as well.

Sunderland managed to take the lead just 21 minutes in as El Hadji Diouf scored from nothing, "Diouf, just dribbling the ball he flicks it ovr the defence and over the keeper and its a GOAL!!!" is what the commentator had to say. Just 6minutes later Didier Drogba scores, commentators words " Lampard, passes the Belletti, back to Lampard, dodges Tainio's tackle, gets around Ferdinand, slides it through to Drogba, Drogba goes to ground, hits it! Just 2minutes later Cisse gets it level again, Commentator explained " Diouf is on the ball, passes to Tainio, Tainio on a run, passes to Djibril Cisse, CISSE SHOOTS AND HE SCORES!!!". Sunderland AFC then bring off El Hadji Diouf and bring on David Healy, they also dring on Kevin Doyle for Antonio Valencia and Hong Yon Nam for Craig Gordon. IFK Goteborg 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur Scorers; Sigurdsson
Spoiler: SPURS FORM FALLS
A poor game from Tottenham saw them lose away to IFK Goteborg, but not only lose, but lose poorly. They failed to provoke any saves from IFK's keeper, and the defence was rarely breached, the only chance in the first half came when Modric closed down the keeper from a backpass, but then having the ball smashed off of him for a goal kick. In the second half, there was little change. Goteborg quickly gained possession from the off, and were content with sitting back and rolling the ball around, before breaking Spurs down in the 78th minute, a close range shot from Sigurdsson from a cross in from Wallerstadt saw Gomes fumble, dropping the ball in to the net. IFK then kept possession, and went away deserved winners.
NK Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur Scorers; Vugrenic, Tomic Scorers; Bent (Jenas)
Spoiler: DINAMO SINK SPURS
Two first half goals from Tomic and Vugrenic proved all too much for the North London outfit and Spurs failed to get into this game at all, only coming to life during the second half, which clearly was not enough time for them to muster anything from the game as they went away with as many points as they had come with. Zagreb kept little possession, but did considerably well by defending as a unit and making themselves almost impossible to break down. Spurs were only gifted their goal via a mistimed offside trap attempt which saw Bent played on by NK's right back, Bent then went on to chip the onrushing keeper from 8 yards out.
Tottenham Hotspur, a club in on-pitch turmoil after two wins and two losses in their opening four games to the season turn to the D2 Cup to turn thier season around if they stand any hope of promotion in this closely fought battle of a 14-games season.
They host AS Saint Etienne of France, who are doing considerably better than Tottenham, sitting proudly at the top of Divsion Two with 7 points from 12. Two wins, a draw and a loss.
Can Tottenham turn their season around ? Information coming soon..
Tottenham 2-4 AS Saint Etienne Scorers; Campbell, Dos Santos Scorers; Gigliotti (2), Doualla, Gomis
Spoiler: SPURS DESTROYED
A warm afternoon. The crowd roaring themselves hoarse as Tottenham prepared to turn their league season around, the stands were packed out in a sea of blue and white, and not a single french voice could be heard in any corner of the stadium. But there was a hush only twenty minutes in when Gigliotti of Etienne combined well with Dernis to nod past Alnwick in the Tottenham goal for one-nil. Groans then followed when not two minutes later Gomis was sent through on a sparkling run by Gigliotti to net past the onrushing Alnwick for two.
Spurs showed glimpses of a comeback early in the second half, after a chorus of boos saw them exit the pitch at half time. But it was Gigliotti again who spoiled the afternoon even moreso when he turn too easily past Dawson to send Doualla through, who chipped the ball over the backpeddling Alnwick for three nil. This was met with an uproar of boos from the White Hart Lane 'faithful', but that was met with an almost instant respone from young Frazier Campbell, on loan from Manchester United, who nutmegged Dernis on the right wing, before running and outpacing two Etienne defenders before cooly slotting past the keeper for 3-1. Then with just five minutes spare, and Tottenham on all-out attack mode, Etienne broke for the killer moment, when Gigliotti was spotted hovering alone on the half-way line by Dernis, who cleared from Spurs' low cross to meet the forward, who easily just had to run the length of the half to get the goal, with King and Dawson left tracking back from being in the area. Alnwick attempted to come out, and met Gigliotti on the edge of the area, but the young frenchman lobbed the keeper (the second time in the game) and it went in off the bar.
The crowd was almost empty and still emptying out when Giovanni Dos Santos scored in the 89th Minute to make it 4-2, a shot from 14 yards out which went in off the post. But it hardly mattered, Tottenham could do nothing today, and will surely be able to do nothing in the second leg. It's just a matter of whether they can turn their season around and hope to finish 4th or 5th at this moment in time.
It has been stated in a press conference at the Club's Surrey training groung that this morning, Giovanni Dos Santos- the 18 year old signing from Barcelona in the summer has asked for the manager to place him on the transfer list in the mid-season negotiation period.
He has stated that he would like a move to any club doing well in the division above, whether it be A,B,C or D. He does not care.
The Chairman and Manager have been forced to resign to the fact that a bright spark for the future is hoping to leave, and they have asked that the fans and players-including Gio- just bare with them whilst they try tosort out this season's mess.
Tottenham 3-1 AS Saint Etienne Scorers; Bent-3 (Zokora 2) Scorers; Guarin (Fendouno)
Spoiler: MASS TURNAROUND AT LANE
On this wet and windy night, Tottenham finally looked as though their season has been sorted. Although they went behind early on, they did not lost their heads. They kept possession, switching play well across the park. And eventually it paid off as Bent was sent through by Zokora with just two minutes left to spare in the half. They doubled their tally when Bent then went on a mazy run starting from the halfway line before rounding the keeper for an easy tap in for 2-1. He then celebrated the win in style with his hat-trick goal, another assist from Zokora, when he beat the poorly timed offside trap to chip over the keepers head and in for 3-1. Tottenham looked in shape, and the result proved it. As for the fans, they say 'Bring on SBV Excelsior'
SBV Excelsior 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur Scorers; Bent 2 (Lennon)
Spoiler: SPURS BEAT SBV
Nothing in this game showed that only two weeks ago, Spurs had any worries with their season as it was. Two goals from on fire Darren Bent in both the first and second 45 saw Tottenham control the game and defeat dutch opponents SBV Excelsior, with great possession play and good linking up from Adel Taraabt and the wingers along with Bent, once again playing the sole striker position. A good, convincing win for Tottenham, and the first where they have not conceded a goal since week two.
