![]() OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS the Master League story.. Cup GLORYYY!! Lyon have made it past the semi-final's with a comfortable 4-1 victory on aggregate against League title rivals AS Nancy-Lorainne to book a place in the Division Two Cup Final 2007! A late goal from Mounier in the first leg saw them come into the second hot favourites with the important away goal being theirs. And they dominated the play all throughout the second leg, an early first half goal from young striker Ben Arfa giving them the lead, before it was doubled on the hour by make-shift left winger Sydney Govou. The win was then sealed on the 79th minute when a break from young forward Remy saw him gifted with a crack at goal, but the save from Gregorini only bounced down to Arfa, who simply tapped it in for his second. Lorainne pulled one back in stoppage time, but it obviously wasn't enough for them to progress through, and Lyon will celebrate long into the night, and look forward to the final in three weeks time against a pretty decent Stade Rennais side.

![]() OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS the Master League story.. Kompany praised and rewarded! Vincent Kompany, Lyon's most recent signing at 21 years old has been revealed as the new captain for Olympique Lyonnais when they travel to the Camp Nou for the D2 Cup final in a months time and when they start their new season next year. After current captain Juninho revealed his intentions of leaving in the summer, there was much talk of who the new captain would be. Many thought it be current vice-captain Coupet, the goalkeeper. But after being told that next year will see more of Akinfeev in goal for the french side, they said they have faith in the Belgium born defender to lead them to glory. And he has been happy to oblige to being hailed as their new rock at the back, and their new captain, speaking publicly in a press conference he said: "When I was told by the manager about my promotion to captain, I thought to myself this is the best thing for me. I have come into the club halfway through the season, and have made an immidiete impact. The results have improved and the team has been conceding less. And I feel as though it has been not only because of my performances at the back, but due to the confidence that the manager had in me when I stepped out onto the training pitch two days after being bought," for a fee of around 5 or 6 million pounds. He continued "I am glad that I have been chosen, and at such a young age as well, I feel as though I still have the rest of my career ahead of me, but I am happy to be Lyon's new club captain. Honoured to be part of the future of the club, and I hope I can do good things for this club, as this club has done for me." Vincent Kompany also recently signed a new 4 year contract with the club. So he will be at the club until he is 25. Captaining the french side until then.

![]() OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS the Master League story.. On the way up! Olympique Lyonnais have recently accomplished their target for the season. A nil-nil draw away at PES United saw them promoted to Division One for next season. They face Stade Rennais in their second to last fixture in Division Two. If they win, then they will be crowned champions with Stade Rennais being unable to catch them at the top of the table as the points at the moment are 24(lyon) to 22(rennais) MORE TO COME SOON

![]() OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS the Master League story.. LYON CROWNED CHAMPIONS! After a hard fought season, Lyon were finally crowned Champions of Division Two with a remarkable 5-1 victory over second placed Stade Rennais. The whites were quick off the mark, with two goals from Karim Benzema, their main striker and player throughout the season, inside the first ten minutes. He then notched up another on the half hour mark to give him his first hat-trick for the season in the most important game of it. He then got an amazing FOURTH in injury time at the end of the first 45' to make it 4-0. After the break, it was Stade Rennais who tried to leave their mark on the game, or at least go out with dignity. They scored a quick goal after 48' but it was cancelled out by Fred's 6th of the league season on 52'. And it was game over, Lyon were happy to keep the ball, passing from side to side, back to front and front to back. Right up until the 90th minute. They were then given the Division Two trophy. Collected by Benzema, the deserved man of the match (if not season for Lyon) and the goalkeeper Coupet, who was captain for today's game with Juninho sitting out with a leg injury. And after the hard fought season, they finally got what they deserve. And it's finally official. Olympique Lyonnais are Division Two champions at long long last.

for some strange and utterly embarassing reason,
i cannot beat WE United as Lyon on my ML I played them before. and lost 1-0 but that was right at the end of the game. and they are struggling in the league, whereas i have already been crowned champions. i feel a final fixture loss coming on here. 65 minutes in and 0-0

![]() OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS the Master League story.. Lyon fall at the hands of United -AGAIN! The end of the league season could only come too quickly for Lyon. Playing brilliant football, with fluent passing movements and goals coming thick and fast from every area across the park. And after an unbelievable 5-1 win against league rivals Stade Rennais the previous week, who would bet against them winning at home on the last day of the season to 7th placed WE United. Well you would have been brave and smart if you had done. Another one of those games where nothing went right for the french. The play wasn't there, the lads didn't seem up for it, and it was surprising when the half time whistle came, and it wasn't three or four nil to United. Much like the loss in week 7, Lyon never really got on the ball and when they did, nothing materialized. Benzema was kept out of the game by Chigrat, and the midfield had clearly done it's homework. Stopping any chance of Lyon getting into their passing game by closing the players down as soon as they got their eyes on the ball. And in the last hurdle, the 86th minute, a quick break from Marsatto saw him pass Cris and Squillaci with two deft-turns, before chipping it over the onrushing Coupet for one-nil with literally no time left at all. Lyon couldn't do anything, they lost the ball soon after the restart and United happily kept it right up into stoppage time. And Lyon lost for only the third time that season, the second time this season that they have fell at the hands of W.E.
