What's wrong with PES 2008? |
|
Just a little something I've been thinking about recently.
Over the past few moths or so there's been countless people moaning about things that are wrong with PES 2008, but I for one can't see what they're moaning about. For as long as I can remember, whenever a Fifa v PES argument breaks out, the PES argument has always been that it has the best gameplay, and isn't bothered about cosmetics, or licenses etc. So yeah, Konami have taken out some of the editing features, and yes, it is quite annoying, but if people are going to moan about not having edit features, then it totally invalidates the argument about not caring about cosmetic, as it has great gameplay. PES 2008's gameplay is absolutely incredible, in my opinion, and I know quite a few other people who would agree that the gameplay is a huge improvement on previous games, and isn't that exactly the point of PES? I don't actually have any conclusion, or ending line to this post, it was just something that I wanted to get out there, and see what other peoples opinions were on it.

Well for one this shouldn't be a new topic. The last time I made a topic like this is was closed and I was told to bring it up in general discussions even though you wouldn't get as many responces. Now my topic wasn't the same as this matter of fact it was the totall opposite. Now onto your post you say there isn't anything wrong with pes 08, which is only part true. Some of the key features were taken out including some edit options. As for gameplay on the PS3 version, when the game was first released and you played it on a normal or whatever tv you have it would jump and skip. Sinbce then they have released two patches which makes the gameplay more enjoyable and nearly perfect. So my question to you is have you had the game since it was released? otherwise you wouldnt be making this post. You would have known how bad it was. It was vertually unplayable. But now, with the patches everything is fine execpt for the lag online. As for the gameplay, yeah. Much more supirior to pes 6 and fifa 08 since the patch.
Post over. Peace | |

quote narutogetaWhere did I say that? quote narutogetaYes I have had the game since release day. I actually took a day off work on it's release day, so I could get it first thing in the morning, and play it all day, and I never once experienced any stuttering and jumpiness.

I like it, I think they took the right step up.
As long as I can have a decent game with my mates, and play Master League (Which is a hell of a lot better) Then I'm not fussed. But In my opinion the gameplay is Awesome. ------------------- Do NOT click This is the one you can click!

quote Februarys ShadowThe title of your topic is "What's wrong with PES 2008?" And as for you saying you have had no lag or stuttering gameplay offline before the patches that must be a complete lie either that or you own a very expensive tv. It may sound like im arguing with you but im not, i can actually play the game offline now without any stuttering AFTER 2 patches. The first not doing anything whatsoever. And like i said the gameplay is awesome once you can actually get into it without any slowdown.

quote narutogetaI still never said there wasn't anything wrong with it. quote narutogetaIt's not a total lie, and my TV isn't particularly expensive, but it is a HD one, which may have made the difference.

I can see your point Adam, I do often complain about PES but can't really see to a reason why I am complaining. As you mentioned in the first post, I think the editing is one major issue to do with it, and especially on the Xbox 360 because even when you edit kits on that, they still look ridiculously bad with only about 12 different kit types to choose from. I would have said Online as well but I think that has gradually improved over the past few months. At first it was just extremely laggy, now it doesn't seem so bad. I just think they need to add a new feature or something, something worth enjoying because I don't enjoy my Master League anymore, I find it really crap at times. I'm not sure why they have gotten rid of the Random Select Team option, I thought that was really good.
So yeah, the only time I really play PES is with a friend offline or with a friend Online. ------------------- ![]() I'll be wallowing in sorrow, wearing a frown, like Pierrot the clown.

Its not a bad game but when you compare it next to other PS3 games then it just feels it was rushed. The graphics ar enot enxt gen and the lack of editing features and shambolic online play really let it down.
Konami need to come up with the some innovative ideas instead of churning out the same game that was on the PS2.

It is not a bad game but sometimes it slows down or feels like it does.
Anyone else noticed this? ------------------- ![]()

I play PES on a small horrid little TV and i still dont suffer from any stuttering gameplay and the only thing that has a poor frame-rate is the replays
The lack of editing is an annoyance to me only because i spent most of my time tweaking kits and badges in the previous PES games. However there are still aspects of the game-play that i think Konami have done poorly for this PES. Small example of this is the goalie throws. I know it sounds really picky but i believed they'd perfected the GK throws for PES6 but in this one they are all over the place and almost seem to work against you on purpose Their idea of physicality in-game has also gone downhill methinks with some players just able to barge through entire teams which is just ridiculous. Besides this however, PES still walks all over FIFA and ive played FIFA about twice since getting it for Xmas and have played PES constantly since i got it on release day. PES is still the best footy game out there and i will still play this one till the end...i'll just complain about it as well ------------------- No, not in half an hour you rubber desk-johnny! My problems:
-They took to many things out. e.g double speed match, play again retry, create ml team. -It's too hard to defend at times sometimes you know it's a goal from when the opposition have the ball in the opposition's half. -Long-range shooting is too tough from the ground. Sure volleys are great but it's rare you score when you have space with the ball along the ground from 30 yards. -The game isn't as satisfying to score in. In PES6 you could score brilliant team goals and you were ecstatic with them. Now, I don't know why, I don't get the same thrill from most of my goals. -The players don't have as recognisable styles in this game. -Refs are gay and too picky. ------------------- Is maith liom Gaeilge.

Online Play is where gaming is at right now and Pro 7's online play sucks. That's a huge letdown for the game.

There's only so far great gameplay can get you if the modes are shite, the features are shite and the presentation is shite. In terms of all those things except graphics, its a step back from PES6.
As for the gameplay, I find it incredibly annoying that a player with decent speed and dribbling stats over 90 can run through teams like a hot knife through butter. The speed of the play makes it feel like an arcade game at times, and it just seems to have lost some of its realism from PES6. Add to this all the unbelievably irritating little niggles and glitches (like not being able to select your kits for ML games I'm about as big a PES fanboy as there is, and I've been playing this game since release day on both next-gen and PS2 formats and I can say, IMO, that it is pretty poor. -------------------
