my mates and i have played pes since iss pro evolution soccer on the ps1 and weve never not played it in over three months but we have with pes 2008.

The list of faults is almost endless -

No kit selection in master league
Referees delay free kicks
Superhuman dribblers
Superhuman ai free kick takers
Blatant fixed matches
Edit mode (normally i would pay £30 for the pes edit mode as a game in itself)
This "import faces" farse
The fact that you can only import 8 kits
Music
Menus look very amatuerish
Commentary is still poor
The fact that it is supposed to be next gen, but it has taken numerous steps backwards

Lag

The game that used to dominate numerous saturday nights has gone, its simply not fun anymore. I for one just find the whole thing very frustrating.

I have played one online game since it was released and that finished 6-5. What a joke, it was more fifa than pes.

I said a few weeks after release that pes as a community had died along with the game. I still hold that belief, posts on here have drastically reduced and pesfan is all about moaning about pes rather than celebrating its joy.

PES was the reason i brought a ps3 but i have moved onto games like burnout and call of duty which are far superior and dont lag.

Konami have shot themselves in the foot. They did not heed the warning that was pes 6 on the xbox 360 and how much of a sham it was. People will nto stand for it and i for one will not be rushing out to purcahse pes 2009. Fans will vote with their cash and simply not buy pes next year.

I still play this game most days so it must be doing something right as I keep wanting to play it. Sure it's not perfect but has any PES game been 100% perfect?

I agree in some aspects with Gaza's post but the major problem is that at the moment the only alternative is FIFA so unless it drastically improves as well then it is either PES or not football game at all.

i think it still has the best gameplay and provides the most realism. As for th kits, i am quite annoyed as to why they took out the editing system they had on pes6/2008 on PS2 but other than that it is the best footy simulator out there.

And as for you saying you have had no lag or stuttering gameplay offline before the patches that must be a complete lie either that or you own a very expensive tv.

It may sound like im arguing with you but im not, i can actually play the game offline now without any stuttering AFTER 2 patches. The first not doing anything whatsoever. And like i said the gameplay is awesome once you can actually get into it without any slowdown.

mate I was probably the first one who had the game on this forum (so I played the game before those patches), I have a regular tv (no HD) and I have to say tht I never have had those problems... i know it sounds weird, but its true... I just didnt have the problems (no lie)...

Im an huge fanboy of PES/ISS... been playing the game since ps1 time and Nintendo64 time. Only because of my older cousin was bigger and stronger and wanted to play FIFA all the time so I had to play PES, but now Im really thankfull. Pes have had the best gameplay, tht was and is the mainreason I buy PES, all the other stuff was just extra... this year the gameplay still is great with some improvements, but they took out the extra... actually Konami admitted tht the game wasnt finished yet, so I think thts why they didnt put those extra's in... its not tht they wanted to make the game worse... so I have big hopes for the new PES next year... Uhm, what is wrong in PES2008, online huge let down is the online server, I enjoyed online gaming in previous years, but this year I couldnt really enjoy online play ( I gave it my best shot)

so thts all!!! And if youre not pleased with this game, then for Gods sake dont play FIFA, just go with COD4, Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry etc.

I play all my PES on my PC, I still have PES 6 installed along with 2008, now over the last few weeks I have found myself going back and playing PES 6 alot. I think that tells it's own story.

I just think people are being too picky. I bet if the next game is perfect somebody will still be annoyed with it

I actually agree with chelskiman of course i am pissed off that Konami took away extras for no reason but i still thoroughly enjoy PES 2008 and master league all though i do think some drastic improvements improvements need to be made or they are going to lose alot of fans but for me i still love PES 2008

its nothin compared to pes3 and 4. it is a step backwards tbh. hope 9 is better

I think the game is great. The gameplay is awesome (as usual). But the graphics could be better. I think its better than Fifa by a mile.

I agree with you completely!! PES 2008 is very poor. Same as you I played it ever since the old ps1, bought a ps 3 specially for PES and felt it was terrible. Not only was I dissapointed about evrything that was worse then pes 6 (see your list) but also cause I couldn't play it because of the 'stroboscope' experience when playing a long ball. I got a headache playing it (and this was online!), So after I got it three days before the release date, i stopped playing it after a week or two. I just picked it up recently and felt there was a change... I missed perhaps something on this forum the last month, but I really feel the 'stroboscopic' problem is solved. Probably with an update? Now I have to say that PES is at least 'playable' again and slowely but surely I start to play some matches. The faults are still there and I'm sure I won't buy PES 2009 on release date (chances are I won't buy it at all...) but at least I can play 'my' game again...

I have both games because i live in suriname and i had to import my pes 2008 from europe.i bought fifa 08 in december and was playing it a month before i got pes 2008 and still even then i was thinking wat is so special about this game ?
because after reading all the reviews from gaming sites and also from people who'm have played the game ,
i was expecting something special but that was not the case.
fifa 08 is great graphical wise and the presentation is great but that has always been the case.
gameplay wise it's nothing compared to pes 2008

i got my pes 2008 for ps3 in january and after two games i thought wow this is footbal the way you have to look for the holes in the defence , the way that u have to control the ball when u receive a pass before u continue, the way u can spread the ball all over the pitch' the way u have to defend and believe me it's footbal.
defending is an art and if u can't master it everyone can blow by you.
the key is anticipating and shutting options off so that eventualy your opponent plays right into your trap.
also i've heard there is a patch or two to make the game better ' well i haven't gotten it yet so i still play my original game .
i can tell u that the way u connect ur ps3 is key to how pes 2008 plays because i tried to connect it on my tv trough my dvd recorder and it was pretty bad, the speed was unbelievable but when i connected it again on my tv it played fine i only have a little slow down at corners and some replays.
but other than that, good lord they captured real footbal perfectly so i am perfectly satisfied with my pes 2008
and my friends are too and believe me they also tried playing fifa 08
but after one or two games they always say ok let's play pes now.

i'm just glad that i am not the only one thinking that way online because i was realy beginning to think that there's something was wrong with me and my friends.
and yes the editing options should have been better and yes they should've gotten more licenses i agree with that but in the end it's about gameplay and compared to pes 2008

Anyway I've always said I'd rather game play over everything else, and PES is the best football game out if you want the best game play.
