Need a lot of help

I'd really appreciate any help that anyone can give me. I got the game yesterday and I really love it so far. Right now I'm on Amateur, but I can't really seem to win any matches. At the most, I'll tie. I have the controls down pretty well and I'm a fair shooter, but I just can't seem to hold onto the ball for very long. I'm not saying that when I pass the ball it's intercepted a lot, I just can't seem to hold onto it when defenders pressure me. And when I pressure them, I can't seem to take the ball away from them.

But I notice this game's a lot more technical than just pass and shoot. I'm American so I really don't get to see a whole lot of soccer (or good soccer anyway), so I was wondering if there were any good strategies to getting around defenders and getting to the goal? I've tried taking my time in the backfield and moving around until I find an opening on the sides, but I usually get boxed in and get the ball taken away from me. So I dunno, do you have any hints or strategies? I'd love to play this game more but have some fun with it. But Amateur is just really frustrating me right now but Beginner is waaaaay too freaking easy.

re: Need a lot of help

Basically, to win in this game, give the ball to a quick/ strong player and just run with it. Simple as. It's the best way to create opportunities if you're using a good team. I'd also suggest shooting around the edge of the 18 yard box, and playing through balls to either your centre-forwards or your wingers. I find using one-two's pretty effective as well, as it drags defenders out of the way, but you have to be using a team that can pass the ball well to pull it off.

My main suggestion though would be to just play the game; with experience and understanding of how the game works, you'll soon be beating the AI on a regular basis and winning a few games online too!

re: Need a lot of help

Thanks a lot! Played a bit more today and I am getting a bit better at it. I still have a lot of flaws but I think one of the bad things I was doing is that I wasn't pacing myself. In the sports games that I play, you usually have to hold the turbo button down the entire time. But with PES I find it a lot easier if you use a bit of a conservative touch and then go all out when you find your opportunities. I actually noticed that the AI picks up whether or not you're using Dash and will pick its speed up to try and defend you kicking away at the back of their legs. I found it a lot easier to get the ball away from them when you're able to set it up and go in slowly. Plus if you use Dash/Turbo, your guys are exhausted by the ends of the halves. So I think that was one of the mistakes I was doing. I think I just need practice from here on. Thanks, I'll try those tips you suggested too.

Hey Kyle, hope your getting the hang of it. PES is a good game, after you get the hang of that I reccomend you get Fifa, another good soccer game.
