I signed Van Der Vaart in one of my ML and he was pretty good. Scored plenty of goals and got lots of assists (in the AM role). Got one hell of a left foot, but isn't very fast. -------------------

Van Der Vaart is a very good player. His development curve is over 90 I think and his stats are pretty much all 80+. He's my replacement for Scholes and then I've got the likes of Moulin, Anderson and a few others who can fill in as reserves. ------------------- You know you want to...

Depends on your playing style, if you play nice short passes then you could play him AM as he wouldn't be running with the ball a lot and could thread through balls to your front men. Otherwise try using him in a Pirlo role. ------------------- You know you want to...

.:2008/09:. Previous posts: 1,2 End-of-Season League Well, in my last report, I said that my main aim was to win the league and I'm very proud to say that my lads achieved this goal, by absolutely destroying the league. The second half of the season saw us go unbeaten and we only dropped 6 points, due to 3 draws (Roma, A. Madrid, R. Madrid). We notched up 86 goals, Rooney scoring 32 of them, and only conceded 26, which gave us a huge goal difference of +60. Barcelona came in 2nd place, some 15 points behind us, with A.C Milan finishing in 3rd. The league campaign was largely dominated by the performances of one man - Wayne Rooney. His direct running from the AMC position led to him causing chaos in the oppositions defensive line, and his ability to shoot from just about anywhere on the pitch meant that he was always going to be a threat. Needless to say, if you score 32 goals in a League campaign at this level then you're obviously a top-class player, however, he also notched up an impressive 11 assists in the league. Despite Rooney's performances winning me vital games lets not take anything away from the other lads, young players like Aaron Lennon and Lucas put in good, solid performances and have broken into the first XI for next season and old-veterans like Scholes and Giggs have put in their fair share of the work-load. All in all, this was a very impressive league campaign, in my opinion, and summed up what was to be a very good season for Manchester United. League Cup With Liverpool in the Quarter-Finals it wasn't going to be an easy ride but I was sure we could win. The first leg was away and it proved to be a tough, even contest, but we managed to scrape through and get that all-important away goal. 1-0 was the final score, Tevez with a peach of a goal from the 18-yard box, fired into the top-left corner. The 2nd leg, at Old Trafford, was much the same as the first leg, both teams fought well in the middle of midfield and neither side could find a way past the outstanding goal-keepers. That was until Rooney popped up. Yes, my star man Rooney ensured safe passage in to the semi's with a free-kick from 20 yards out. In the semi's we faced Ajax, a team I knew we could beat and who were languishing in mid-table. The first leg was a suprisingly open game, the final score being 2-1 to my lads. With two away goals going into the 2nd leg, it was just a case of defending well and hitting them on the counter, and we did exactly that, putting in an impressive 3-0 scoreline. Tevez (2) and C. Ronaldo made sure we progressed to the finals, where we would face old rivals Barcelona. With the league pretty much in the bag by now, I was focusing on retaining the Cup we won last year, but with Barcelona as our opponents, I was expecting a very tough game. However, to the suprise of everyone around the world, including me, it was a suprisingly easy game for us. We scored straight from the kick-off. Aaron Lennon beat Ronaldinho and Zambrotta down our right flank with sheer pace, before rifling the ball into the top corner of the goal past the helpless Valdes. 1-0 to us. I was ecstatic. 1-0 up against the previous League Champions and with only 3 minutes gone. But that was my fear, there was only 3 minutes gone so there was plenty of time for Barca to get one back. To my suprise, they couldn't find a way through my midfield, let alone my defence. Lucas had a blinder in the DM role, breaking up everything that the trio of Deco; Iniesta and Xavi had to offer, whilst the two AM's Rooney and Van Der Vaart just roamed free. I could not believe my eyes when on 14 minutes, Rooney picked the ball up from the half-way line and beat Iniesta for strength and speed, then beat Xavi, Puyol and Milito before going 1 on 1 with Valdes and dummying it around him to knock the ball into the empty net! 2-0 up with 15 minutes gone. Ultimate humiliation for Barca. Yet, I did not know that we would go onto score another 5 goals and win the game with ease. Yes, that's right, 7-0 was the final score. A game that everyone, including me, had down as a tight, even game turned out into a massacre. I'm chuffed for my boys, we had to play Barcelona 5 times this year, and we beat them 5 times. Special mention in this cup has to go to Tevez for the part he played up to the Cup final, where he unfortuantely was on a down arrow, as he notched up an impressive 7 goals and topped the goal-scorer leaderboard. Also, special mention to Aaron Lennon, who came in with 7 assists and tore apart every defence that he came up against. Champions League We qualified top of our group, winning all our games and beating Inter 1-0 and 2-0 along the way. The first knock-out round of the Champions League saw us play A. Villa, who we easily dispatched 5-0 on aggregate, courtesy of 4 Rooney goals. The semi-finals was against a much tougher opponent - Chelsea. Old rivalries here, seeing as I support Chelsea, but I set these emotions aside and made sure me and the lads were fully focused on the task in hand. The first leg, at Old Trafford, saw us win 1-0 but in all honesty it could have, and probably should have been a higher scoreline if it were not for the superb performances of the two keepers - Van Der Saar and Cech. The second leg saw a much closer-fought game, but we came out on top with another 1-0 win. So, we progressed to the final of the Champions League, where dreams are made or broken, and we would face A.C Milan, who have a very strong record in this competition. The final was a much-anticipated game, a game that was hyped up in the same way as the League Cup Final against Barcelona, it was anticipated to be a close, even contest, with maybe a goal or two between the two sides. Oh how wrong they were. The first 10 minutes saw us hit Milan with attack after attack and it was only a matter of time before we scored. The longer we didn't score, the more anxious I got. I had nothing to worry about in reality, seeing as on 23 minutes Rooney pops up on the edge of the box to smash one in past the stranded Dida. 1-0 up. Full of confidence. The decision was to now attack or defend. Evidently, I chose to attack, with Van Der Vaart sliding an inch-perfect through ball for the in-form Micheal Owen to slot it past Dida on 29 minutes. Another goal came shortly when Milan wasted a corner for Vidic to punt it clear straight into the path of the unmarked C. Ronaldo. With acres of space ahead of him and no-one in sight he made sure he did the job - cleverly taking on Dida to make sure we had a comfortable lead to defend. The lead increased further in the 2nd half, when Rooney executed a trade-mark shot from the edge of the box, full of power, that flew past Dida into the top corner. 4-0 up. Trophy in sight. 30 minutes to go. They go and score. Eek. Needless to say I was furious at my defence, letting Kaka dance around them like that before cooly slotting it in the bottom corner. The next goal was crucial, and thank God that we scored it. Once again my main man Wayne Rooney showed why he's my main man. I'll run you through it, I'm that proud of it. Milan were on the attack, only to find the rock-solid and ever-impressing Lucas in the way. He passed the ball left to Rooney, about 25 yards away from his own goal. Rooney lifts his head up, finds he's got a bit of space and moves into it. Gattuso closes him down, but Rooney's having none of it and he brushes him aside like he just don't care, fooking Italian twat. Approaching the half-way line there seems to be no place for Rooney to run, but you can be sure he could find some. He moves through the centre of the pitch, powering his way through like a bull-dozer intent on smashing your house down. This time Pirlo comes and closes him down, only to be given the same treatment as Gattuso. Rooney's agility is proven next as Nesta goes in with a slide-tackle 25 yards out from Milan's goal, but Rooney skips past him. He then finds the space between where Nesta should have been and the their left-back. Powering his way through like Shrek on speed he finds himself 1 on 1 with Dida and clever takes it past him, to knock it in the back of the empty net. 5-1 up. Cruising for glory. Rooney scored the goal of his life and had the game of his life. The final score stayed 5-1 to us and I let Rooney get the trophy, he was that immense in the Final. ![]() Rooney celebrating his superb goal in the Final. Managers Comments First of all I'd just like to say a very big well done to my lads. They've done me proud this season, winning the treble is a big feat. With the squad we've got I knew we could win the treble and we've got to keep focused for next season, as I intend on winning the treble again. I'd like to give a special mention to a few players who really stood out for me. The Player of the Year, for me, has to be Wayne Rooney, he was absolutely in the Champions League Final, pretty much running the show himself and scoring that delightful goal. He's helped us through the league by scoring so many goals and get a lot of assists as well. So, yeah, big up my main man Wayne Rooney. The second player I'd like to mention is Lucas. Brought in last season on a free, he's managed to keep Hargreaves and Carrick out of the team with his solid performances. He never seems to tire and he always seems to be where I want him to be. He's only young as well and the sky's the limit for this lad, I'm sure. I'd also like to give praise to Lennon, for without his pace down that right flank we wouldn't have scored so many goals, and to C. Ronaldo for doing the same done the left. But, let's not forget unsung hero Van Der Saar. He may be getting on a bit, but he's still a top class keeper and saved me on many occassions throughout the season. My last comment will be to say a big thank you and good-bye to Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. They've kept the youngsters in line the past two seasons but I felt it was time for them to move on, seeing as their 34 and 35 respectively. They will be sorely missed but we now look forward to a new era. ![]() It's an emotional time as United fans say good-bye to two legends. Transfers: Ins: Frey Ramon Xabi Alonso A.
