Online Discussion ~IDs/Gamertags & Match Listings~

Considering SCIV is going to have online play, I'm positive we'll all be playing online eventually. For those of you who have PSN IDs, feel free to post them in this thread if you ever plan on playing SoulCalibur IV with your fellow neoseekers. Everybody's PSN ID will be listed in this first post in alphabetical order based on Neoseeker name.
In the future, perhaps we can use this thread to set up online matches or tournaments. ^^ Hope to see you all online! I'm not 100% sure since I don't have the game yet.
There will be an option to have a ranked match and a non-ranked match. Basically, a ranked match will pair you up against players of simular rank (your rank increases with more battles), and an unranked match can be against anyone. You enter a lobby, and you can invite friends into it, and then you'll have matches. The winner goes on, and the next person in the lobby gets to battle the winner...ect... I'm sure you'll know more details when you get the game. ^^ I just hope lag will be minimal. Having no lag at all would be ideal, however I don't think that will be the case. -_-''' -------------------

So far, the online sounds pretty horrible.
Those who had the game earlier for 360 (PS3 online for SCIV wasn't up until just yesterday), have been experiencing a lot of lag, with 2 or more second lagging. One person claimed to experience 10 second lagging, but he was probably exaggerating. Apparently, after 5-10 minutes of online play, if you exit out then sign back in, online will be lag-free afterwards. And from those who have played PS3 online, the lag is also pretty bad (probably worse). We can only hope that these lag issues will be fixed by tomorrow when the game is officially released, or that a patch will be available in the near future. It certainly doesn't help that most of the reviewers who reviewed the game so far haven't even played the game online. -------------------

Just played a bunch of rounds with Mnmfan. For your first SC, you're pretty good.
His Maxi is a beast. *_* Better watch out, Storm. It was quite laggy though. ;_; -------------------

Oops.
I'll fix it ASAP. quote Jonny_RPToday I had my best experience online yet. I was in a session with two others and the connection was great (all 5 bars). I used mainly Taki, Mitsurugi and Astaroth, and I was able to land a bunch of moves/combos with Taki that I never could before in an online match. Definitely the most lag-free match I've had online. At the end, I was sitting on 16 Wins - 1 Loss, but then the session was closed. I also hear Ranked Matches generally have better connections. I was waiting to see if Bamco would patch the online to make it better, but if that's the case, I may jump into Ranking matches now. -------------------

When I see a button masher, I just play their game and button mash them with AA.
If they don't block after the 2nd consecutive AA, I know for sure they're just mashing buttons. They tend to die easily afterwards and then quit. It's not too hard to beat a button masher, even online. Beat them at their own game, except with faster moves. If I have my headset on, I usually tell them to learn how to play before going online. -------------------

Once I figure whether a person is a button masher, or just a newbie (they'll eventually block your strings, but will never think of ducking or sidestepping them, and any attempt to strike back results in a counter hit), I tend to abuse the quick-hitting traps of AA and BB.
I finally started playing Ranked matches online, and the connections seem a little better, or at least, I've yet to experience any real lagging. I was against a Lv.40 Algol user. He just kept spamming Algol's cheap verticals and low horozontals. I beat him with pretty much straight KKK's with Taki. I couldn't believe a noob like that got to such a high level. I guess that's why he was using Algol. His % ratio was pretty laughable despite being lv.40. I've only played 4 ranked matches so far though. -------------------

I've fought 36 Ranked matches so far.
So far my win rate is around 80% with 28 wins and 8 losses. 6 of the matches where I lost was against an opponent with 1-3 bars. My suggestion for anyone who plasn to play ranked matches: - Create your own session. - Wait for opponent. - If opponent has less than 3 bars, leave. - If opponent has 4 or 5 bars, then proceed with the match. The 1 bar match I had was insane. I couldn't even move. >_< I'd duck a throw two seconds ahead, but still get thrown, sidestep and get hit by very linear verticals... @___@ quote SlinkingtonSo long as the connection is no less than 4 bars, you can grow used to the lag and input your moves a little ahead of time. So when you see your character performing the first part of your combo, you're already done inputing the second part, and probably already inputing the third...ect... Anything more then 0.5 seconds of lag though, and it's pretty hopeless. -------------------

quote Salvador_DogYou better. I think you have the most lag out of all the people I've played here. Tommorow. =_= ~~~~ Just played a session with Storm. It was funny. XD The two of us were mostly fooling around, but the matches got extra laggy whenever he used Maxi. I think he was trying to do some combos with Setsuka, but the lag got him. -_- -------------------

quote StormThat was probably because the first match was the most lag-free. I don't know how it was on your side, but the first match was 4 bars, and then the next few were 3 bars, and then 2 bars, and just before I left, it was around 2-1 bars. >_< Yeah, I can understand about your Maxi. It seems all the quick characters who have quick/long strings have a rougher time. I'd input my moves too quickly, and what I'd try to make my Taki do, ended up not registering and she'd end up doing something else (Don't know if you noticed all the random kicking). XD The final score was 8-4, wasn't it? Meh, we were both mostly fooling around with eachother. I don't take matches too seriously when I play online, especially if I'm using someone like Yoshi. Yoshi VS Voldo was epic. We need to take videos. quote TakiWhat else is there to talk about here? You were great too, Bradlez.
Sorry for the fooling around (rolling on the ground. Staying prone. tapping G repeatedly. Taunting. Stabbing myself. XD) I just can't play seriously when it lags like that (When playing a Ranking Match, I only play against people if it's 5 bars - Otherwise, I kick them). It becomes frustrating if I try to. I get tempted to do things that I'd do in a real match, but I know it won't work (Like when you know a string is susceptible to guard impact, so you're tempted to try and GI it online even though the lag will cause it to miss/not come out). Having everything happen a second later is too late and I'm not a psychic. I always feel like spamming when it lags like that. Or else I have to just stand there and watch my inputs turn into regular As and Bs and Ks. That said, I still tried to work my Taki out in that last round of matches with your Cervantes before I had to hit the bed. Can never seem to finish up my combos with Taki online. (If I press 214 and move on too quickly, she won't go into PO, if I try and do a second 214 to be certain, she'll end up doing her teleport...) I could tell you knew what you were doing though. I just wish we could have an actual live match. I think Salvador got his new connection, as it was 4 bars instead of 3 or less now. -------------------

So long as it's not 3 bars/less, I don't think anybody in this forum mashes buttons (None that I've played anyway). XD
quote Syfe KuroslayerIf you go to the Friends tab on your XMB, and you go to Players Met, you'll find a list of all the recent PSN members you've played. You may be able to recognize his name there if you remember it at all. -------------------

Anything that lags 0.5 seconds or more breaks the credibility of a match, imo.
Generally, this is how the lag has been in regards to the connection level: 5: 0.5 second lagging or less 4: Around 0.5 second lagging. 3: Around 1+ second lagging. 2: 1.5+ second lagging. 1: 2+ second lagging. Although I've experienced a 5 bar matches with 2+ second lagging. >_> Bamco needs to patch that shit. -------------------

Being able to invite should be mandatory in any online game, imo.
They still could have made the interface more user-friendly. You have to exit and go to FRIEND MATCHES just to accept an invite, for example. Why not just make everything happen in one place? For example, if your friend is currently in a session, after their match was over, they should receive the invite right away without having to leave and check their invites manually. It shouldn't be a problem of interference since it only takes a second to accept or deny the invite. Most people don't even know how to invite/accept invites in this game. And when you do choose to invite in a session, they should give you a list of all online friends that are currently playing Soul Calibur. Instead of a (potentially huge) list of friends, including those who are playing other games, and even those that are offline. It also sucks that you can't set up a Tournament bracket style session, but considering the lagginess and unpredictability of the lag online, it's not that big a deal. -------------------

Don't those people know they can set private slots? That way, nobody can join besides those they invite.
People could also be kicking you if you significantly lower the overall connection of that session. -------------------
