Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

Discuss the brutal Cervantes here.

I haven't tried him a lot yet but looking forward too as he's always been one of my favs. I really like his new look though.

He really killed Ivy at the end of SC3?

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

I completely missed this thread.

His A+K and B+K are no longer auto-counters, but they can be useful in the right situations.

My sister's Main is Cervantes/Shura, so playing against him is pretty fun now that I know all his weaknesses. Muahahaha...

I don't really use Cervantes, but from playing against him a lot, I can tell he's still as fierce as ever. He seems easier to punish now. Still has insane combo opportunities and iGeo Da Ray is still as dangerous as ever.

And because I don't know where else to post this entirely un-Cervantes-related video...

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

Cervantes is one of my mains. As he has been for the last installments for the series.

I will admit that I spam his aerial moves but that's what I start doing when I face a noob that constantly repeats using the same attack and never guards, I suppose you get what you are given.

I do like his moveset and because his attacks aren't entirely slow and he has a fair bit of power behind his attacks he makes a good pitbuller. Oh and I love his pistol moves.

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

I still have to spam his aerial moves mostly becuz i don't have time to play yet but playing SC3 lately i noticed Cervantes hasn't changed much but everytime online, one or 2 moves never came out as right as i thought they would.

I'm also distracted too much these days but i might bring him back online after i'm tired of Ivy.

I met only one Shura yet but she was not bad. Had to buttonmash never wondering what i was doing to get the win.

P.S: Do a thread for vids Ray.Is that how a mod should go? Going off topic himself.

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

I don't like Cervantes because his best moves are verticals, and he doesn't have many fast and good horizontals.

Everytime I find myself fighting any Cervantes player online I just sidestep and then combo them to death.

And in my opinion, Geo Da Ray is useless unless your opponent and the aerial moves are useless unless your opponent hasn't ever played against Cervantes before, or unless you use the inputs to make Geo Da Ray go ahead of the player. Or if you're facing a CPU. :/

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

Newbies will use Cervantes' Geo Da Ray randomly, but most Cervantes pros have mastered iGeo Da Ray (Instant Geo Da Ray), which has insane potential at the wall, and great to punish whiffs.

Skilled Cervantes players will be flashing all the time. XD

Just like Yoshi players.

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

^^Good point. And i can still define a good or at least serious player by starting the match with his igeo da ray.

Since there are characters that i used more than him since sc2 i'd say i'm used to other stuff more but his igeo da ray remains a good way to hit an opponent that rises after a hit or at least put myself at a good distance.

It has it's disadvantages of course. Opponents will most likely or eventually see it coming. But then you can try his unblockable or his sweep before giving up.

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

I have found out some very good tricks to use with him online that most if not all of the time work. Just a quick question when it has Just in the move list how do you actually perform it like that? Do you need to get soul gauge flashing?

Shura is much more cooler to use only because she has Katanas, I wish you could get them for Cervantes.

I like her weapons too. She's kind of cool.

Not too sure but i guess the JUST moves like just frame or just input means that you must input the right move in the combination at the right time.

Cervantes 3ABB is a good exemple of just input. I guess there's a time to input the last B since after the first moves i count a little delay before i input the last B. But i might be wrong. It works good for me though.

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

I have gotten very use to using ol Cervantes, I am finding ways to get around people who spam and people who just have no tactics in general. The only two characters that I have yet to find strategies against beating them with are Siegfried and Nightmare. This is usually because I never really verse them and I find their moves unpredictable.

re: Cervantes De Leon, the brutal dread pirate

I'll admit that Cervantes is great... if you're good with JF and slide imputs. All of his stun counters are shakable (except maybe one, but I haven't worked on breaking it enough). I find him to be kind of slow in all of his initial attacks, but I'm willing to agree that he DOES have some fast ones, but haveing a few fast attacks doesn't make up for the rest of them being slow. He's also quite predictable in his moves.

Even with all of that said, I still love playing at Cervantes, I don't know why. Maybe it's the fact that I can shoot someone in the face/juggle them with bullets.

As a character he's better than Nightmare, who's my main, but worse than Mitsurugi (not sure where he stands on your guy's list, but Mitsu's pretty low on mine).

I don't use him as a main, but I do know how to use him. He's great especially if you can get your opponent to overextend themselves.
