Having only been in a charge for approximately three weeks, Ronnie Moore decided that his future lay elsewhere after struggling to adapt to life at Prenton Park. 8th July 2006 Match Update – Tranmere Vs Derby Match Preview Tranmere Team to play Derby: Achterberg Stockdale – Goodison – Thompson – Cansdell-Sherriff Shuker – Mullin – McLaren – Ellison Taylor - Greenacre ![]() In both sides first friendly of the season, it was Derby who emerged victorious. Arturo Lupoli of Derby converted Ryan Smith’s low cross to give his side the lead. On the 36 minute mark fans witnessed a remarkable goal by Paul McLaren after he hit a volley first time from 30 yards into the top right hand corner. Derby hit back just before half-time with a headed goal from David Jones from a corner. The second half saw very little action until Seth Johnson scored a sublime curling free kick around the ball watching Tranmere wall from 25 yards out. Once again Tranmere hit back at Derby with substitute Calvin Zola running onto a through ball to smash the ball into the bottom left hand corner. Derby weren’t finished however as Darren Moore converted a header from his sides corner in injury time. Good start, nice SOMS, maybe try to make some parts size 1 to make the presentation nicer and also maybe try to find pictures of better quality, other than this kutgw | |

![]() 11th July 2006 Match Preview Tranmere Team to play WBA: Achterberg McCready - Goodison – Thompson – Cansdell-Sherriff Harrison Shuker – Mullin – McLaren – Ellison Taylor Match Update – Tranmere Vs West Bromwich Albion ![]() Tranmere faced their second championship side friendly in the space of 4 days. This time the visitors where West Bromwich Albion. Albion got off to a great start finding themselves four nil up after 21 minutes. Those goals came courtesy of two John Hartson headed goals from crosses from both flanks, a sublime 25 yarder from Richard Chaplow and a fortunate own goal from Tranmere’s Chris Shuker where the shot was destined to go wide but deflected in of Shuker. Tranmere got their act together and launched a comeback. Firstly Gareth Taylor latched onto a poor backpass from WBA’s Jonathan Greening and calmly placed the ball in the back of the net. In reverse fortunes Tranmere where the gifted an own goal for WBA after substitute goalkeeper Luke Daniels wasn’t paying attention as Neil Clement passed the ball back from 30 yards. Jason McAteer earned an converted a free on the hour mark from 25 yards out in the bottom right hand corner leaving goalkeeper Luke Daniels stationary. Tranmere pressed and pressed for the equaliser but it wasn’t to be, Nathan Ellington found himself in behind the defence and 1 on 1 with Tranmere keeper John Achterberg; he cheekily rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home into the empty net.
