A little dissipointed in the karma. (major spoilers) |
|
Well,I've beaten the game 4-5 times now and felt I should share this with you.
I think the karma system should have had a major effect on the ending. After I destroyed the ray sphere and got that call from kessler (on good play through) I was exspecting a call from the wardin saying something like,"cole, meet me at the prison," and then you go there and find out just about every cop in the game from uniforms/swat/helicopters/and even the wardon with a shotgun are waiting for you,The warden says that he knows your about to take on the first sons, and wants to help you. So you lead the army of cops to the historic distric and then Have a major battle with all the first sons, you win,and go to fight kessler. He puts up a wall around the blast zone so the cops can't interfere with the battle, then you have the boss battle, and the end goes on. And if your bad, sasha and her repers fight the same battle. Just an idea. ------------------- ![]()

I think most, if not all, of the karma choices were terrible. It was either be Batman or The Joker, there was no middle ground, AND the only difference to the story is a shitty little cutscene showing the city and Cole talking at the end? Terrible.
It was a great game but they really *bleep*ed up on that aspect I think. ------------------- ![]()

Eh, well having a team with you (like the cops or Sasha and her reapers) wasn't really what the game was about. It was you having to deal with this thing yourself. That's why he mentions in the game he wishes he wasn't going alone. It added to both the challenge and also added to the story to get more emotionally involved and everything.
I like how the story was, it was great. Granted there were some things I'd have done differently, but it was still great. I don't think I'd like a middle ground because to me, when you have those powers a middle ground would be like, "I don't care one way or another," which is apathetic, and when having powers like that and not caring . . . that tends to lean toward evil. However, I wish the choices were more subtle instead of so obvious that the player didn't even have to think. The player pretty much was like, "Well this is my good playthrough so I'll do this" and "Well I'm playing as evil this time so I'll do this." I'd have rathered that it take a bit of thought . . . or at least be to where it wasn't SO obvious. Would have been nice to be something that actually made you think about "What would I do in this situation." . . . Something tough like: "Would I kill my son whose caught in the mechanisms of this drawbridge, to save the train carrying dozens of people, or would I let the train crash to save my son?" . . . Well if I lower the bridge and let the train pass my son dies for certain. If the train crashes I save my son . . . and maybe there will be some survivors on the train. . . Some situations that would make you consider "What would I do?" Have multiple choices too instead of just two . . . none being middle ground, but rather perhaps have you need to figure out the best way to do it yourself? With the good/evil being decided on the damage (not) done, fear (not) caused, wounded people, killed people, saved people . . . things like that instead of just a yes/no type of thing. actually, that's quite a good idea. you could have different powers associated to different karma positions. like you could have absolute good, absolute evil, and others. i don't like the idea that you can only be fully good or fully bad...

I actually thought the evil Karma made a little more sense than most other game's morality systems. I mean with the raysphere, Cole didn't use it again just because he was a jerk, but because it would give him the powers to better protect people like Trish and others. With the food he wasn't just out to starve people for fun, he was looking out for his loved ones. The choices could have been a bit more diverse, the Trish one is a good example of what I would like to see, but I felt overall it was alright.

the only problem with the karma system was that it forced you to go one way or the other 100% or else you would not get better powers. It was either 100% good or 100% bad.

Yeah that's true, maybe neutral karma would help.
