Practising manual drift

Ok, so I'm a decent player (2 star rank and about 7000 on WiFi and everything unlocked) but I still use automatic drifting. I notice all the best players use manual and I'd really like to get better at it.

I can just about win on 150cc with manual drift, but still find it difficult. Are there any particular tracks/vehicles that are good for practising this? I'd really like to get this nailed.

What vehicle/character/controller are you using?

re: Practising manual drift

I use the nunchuk, hate the wheel.

I normally use Toad with the cheep charger/quacker, or if I'm a medium, mach bike or royal racer. I'm open as far as large characters go.

I'm more interested about tracks or exercises, whatever, to practise with

re: Practising manual drift

Wii mario circuit is the best for drifting practicing.

For the mach bike have you noticed how it always drifts inwards, well keep drifting but after you start the drift hold the stick in the opposite direction because you will have wrestled it into control but also you will be smoothly controlling your movements.

Hope I helped, let me know when you have got the hang of it.

Yeah I've started to notice how releasing the stick gives you a bit more control. Yeah that helps.

Do different bikes have different characteristics in that sense?

re: Practising manual drift

Yeah. Some bikes drift outwards like the Wario Bike where you have to steer inwards because it takes you outwards.

Remember that Karts get extra boost though if you drift until the sparks turn orange.

re: Practising manual drift

One thing Blaze forgot to mention (). When using a bike that drifts inwards, instead of pushing in the opposite direction, pushing the direction you drift in can help you get around sharp corners. It's also possible to get 2 mini boosts doing this on a 180º turn.

re: Practising manual drift

Thanks guys, yeah I've pretty much got it now. I guess it was a matter of practice. I'm starting to use it online now and doing just as well as I normally do.

if you ever get stuck again try using the gamecube controller, really easy to control, and easy to use the drift with

re: Practising manual drift

Heres some advice. Start using Karts in the Bowsers Castle 3 track. You will soon learn it. And also will pick up manual on a bike too!

Also (if you have the money), buy either a Gamecube controller or a Classic Controller. Does wonders with manual.
