Forum Rules, Feedback and Suggestions

quote Sonic Flash
Individual forum rule threads are somewhat redundant as is, save for forum-specific rules (all forums are atleast a little bit different). We have sitewide rules that we fall back on anyways, as well as operating under the common sense principle. Common sense in itself means that the rules are something to put your back against when you aren't sure.
Simply put; you are expected to follow Neoseeker's Sitewide Rules at all times, in agreement with the use of your account. However, to better the experience in this forum I would like to reinstate the idea of a positive posting policy.

An effort to make this forum helpful and friendly for everyone, and encourages the following initiatives:
    Positive Posting Policy
  • Respect the opinions and thoughts of others, regardless of how incorrect they may be.
  • Make an attempt to post in the proper forum/location/thread etc.
  • Be patient with new community members. If they can be helped by reading a Guide or FAQ, welcome them to the forum and kindly point them in the right direction.
  • If a topic is being debated, keep your comments related to the facts at hand. Try not to criticize someone's opinion without valid factual support to back up your claim.
  • Don't chastise someone for making a redundant post or asking a "nooby" question. We all started there at some point.
Regarding "General Help" Threads:
quote Dynamite
"General Help" threads are discouraged as they're more hindrance than help. Forcing people to ask questions all in a single thread makes it difficult to get a response to your specific question. It also makes it difficult for people with the same problem to find this information in the future and reduces Neoseeker's potential of having useful threads listed by Google, and other search engines.
"General Help" threads are not to be confused with threads requesting general information about a specific topic, for example a thread requesting information about a single problem or aspect of the game/topic.

In other words please don't hesitate to create a new thread when you have a specific problem. Just be sure that you check to make sure your question hasn't already been asked, or answered, before you create a thread. You can find a complete list of all important, forum or game question related threads in the thread index.

General Discussion Policies:
quote Dynamite
These threads can provide a very good area for members of the community to interact with each other about topics that aren't strictly within the scope of the forum. This is useful for promoting communities and encouraging people to get talking to each other. As some of you will know, no doubt, that these can be very fun places to participate.
These discussion threads are purely for your enjoyment, and should be used as a way to bring the community closer together. It is not mandatory that a forum with a moderator gets an "off-topic" general discussion thread. In fact it is more of a question of whether or not the forum deserves an "off-topic" general discussion thread, primarily based on how they behave and manage each other. In short, these threads are privileges that are to be earned, maintained and used appropriately. One can just as easily be deleted in the time it took to make it. Be aware that all "off-topic" general discussion threads will be locked and set for deletion upon reaching 30 pages or so. This is a sitewide policy so don't expect to use a general discussion thread to bolster your post count.

Forum Feedback and Suggestions

Feel free to use this thread as your typical "Moderator's Corner" in order to make suggestions or provide feedback. I've combined the two in hopes that it makes things easier when referring to one or the other.

re: Forum Rules, Feedback and Suggestions

I'd just like to let everyone know that I will be removing the current forum style sheet later on tonight. Don't panic if you like the way this theme looks, because I am currently in the process of setting up a theme selector so that those who do prefer the way the forum looks now will have the option to view the forum as is.

My reason for doing this is simple -- I am having some troubles with my internet browser, and browsing the forum filled with very basic colors seems to provide me with less difficulties. I figured that this way everyone gets what they want, or require. I'll try to get everything set up as quick as I can, so try to bare with me for now. =)

In addition to that little feature, I would like you all to take notice in the fact that the thread index has been removed as of now. It'll be undergoing some heavy revisions to make referencing past threads a little easier, but I would still like to stress using the search function before creating a thread.

I'm actually not sure which way I like better, this color or the old one.

So, by theme selector you mean what they have in Loungin, where you can select things like Shane Blue, Quierta Purple, Default, and so on and so forth, correct?

Exactly that, minus the Shane Blue, Quierta Purple and so on. Once I get everything squared away we can decide on the content of the selector, I'm all for allowing people to submit their own theme.

WHAT? NO SHANE BLUE OR QWERTY PURPLE. DISGRACE.

Jk, but I think that a Slacker Gray is in order.

re: Forum Rules, Feedback and Suggestions

Some of you may have already noticed the small drop down box located in the upper right-hand corner of the forum, and for those who haven't;

This is a forum theme selector for those who rarely venture into Loungin' or haven't been familiarized with one yet. By clicking on the arrow you will be presented with a drop down list of all of the currently supported forum themes. If you do so now you'll notice that the only theme to select from is Neoseeker's Default theme, which is why I am encouraging you to try your hand at making a theme to add to the list. Try to keep in mind that not all "pretty" colors are easy on the eyes, so if it's hard for you to look at chances are it'll be just as hard for the rest of us.

If you are interested in creating a theme you can send me a NeoPM requesting a basic template. However, instead of creating your theme like this --
code
<style type="text/css">
/* YOUR THEME DETAILS HERE */
</style>

You'll need to put your theme in an external .css file. For example, if this were what I used to put in the forum header --
code
<style type="text/css">
body {
  background-color: black;
}
</style>

Remember that when saving your code you do not save the style tags, just remove them from your document once you feel you're theme is complete. Feel free to send it to me over NeoPM so that I can make sure everything is correct and can host the file for you. =)

re: Forum Rules, Feedback and Suggestions

Oh, so you got rid of the Circe Blue that was there for a few minutes?

So, do we put the color where it says Background Color: Black?

re: Forum Rules, Feedback and Suggestions

Yes, for the thread list background colors (remember there's more than one), however that is only one portion of the style sheet.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me over NeoPM, or check out the HTML/CSS forum. I'll try to help you get off the ground as best I can, but I'd rather not turn this thread into a CSS related question and answer.

Not really all that important... But with Snoopymaster's apparent name change to Circe, you might want to change the text at the bottom that says the header and footer are by Snoopymaster...

I guess he did it earlier, because I just looked down and saw it.

As I suggested earlier, I think you should have a Current Mod/Current Section Mod/Former Mod section in the OP of this thread.

re: Forum Rules, Feedback and Suggestions

I'll be on a limited activity schedule up until this coming Friday. More than likely the only real time I'll be able to spend on Neoseeker will be between 3 and 5pm, unless I manage to get everything I need to done beforehand. I have a couple of classes that are requiring me to take a few courses outside of class, usually in the evening, for the rest of the week -- which is why I thought I'd let you know. =)

I am sure know to contact the RPG [Wii] section moderator, Circe, for assistance anytime I'm not online.

Just a question... Why'd you change the banner when we had a contest for it

Not that I'm complaining, of course; it looks good either way... But, you know, we had a nice little competition to get it, and then it was taken down...?

re: Forum Rules, Feedback and Suggestions

It's a filler.

I removed the header and footer when I was playing around with some of the HTML tags; I didn't realize I hadn't saved them to my hard drive. Not to worry, I'm thinking about hosting another header and footer contest sometime in the near future -- so this current piece won't be up there for long.

Well, I remember Vermillion posted the header in the On-Topic Discussion thread a few days ago.

So if you really want it back until/if we get a new one, it's there. o.o

Thanks, I snagged it back from his post. We can hold a new contest when everyone gets tired of this piece, although it's really a nice header.
