is it as good as the other ones? I can clearly see that this forum seems pretty dead. Im thinking about getting this for my birthday as well as a ps3.
So should I get it? Can anyone tell me what the gameplay is like? It would be much appreciated.

All the Disgaea forums are similarly dead though, so that doesn't mean much...

The general consensus seems to be:

D1/Afternoon > D3 > D2

If you like the gameplay changes, you'll get many hours out of it (heck, I don't even care for the gameplay changes and I think I have over 170 hours thus far).

What I Don't like especially, is firstly all the DLC characters released for $$$, and secondly the patch they released for the CLass World makes the Dropouts (sort of clones of your character) appear less frequently (I didn't get into this until after they patched it, so I missed out on this great way to boost characters in short order, but this is more of a personal annoyance).

It isn't graphically impressive, but it is a step up from D1 and D2.

The basic gameplay (grid based battles) is the same, other gameplay mechanics have been changed. Like you gain skills by purchasing them with Mana, and ditto for Evilities (That D2 gameplay change from D1 that nets characters extra abilities). On the plus side, you can earn weapon/magic skills from allies via the Class world, albeit they cost 10x what they cost that character.

Money is plentiful in this game though (I myself, have over 1 trillion HL, and have nothing left to spend it on).

Easy to level up in this game, once you get staticians, since they stack (so....you can get to level 9999 in a few moments with enough staticians). On the flip side, the uber bosses (Baal namely) has crazy stats....Namely the Land Of Carnage characters are ridiculously overpowered. On the flip side of the flip side, your damage potential skyrockets when you boost your skills.

If you liked D1 and D2, just get D3 darn it XD

Lol well Baal will always be a pain in everyones neck but everyone tells me that über Baal is the bigest pain of all. Wow this is definately a better response than I thought I would get. Thank you got all the detail you went into. I'm glad to know that its safe to say disgaea 3 will not dissappoint!

Don`t expect the best of graphics either. Disgaea on the PS2 was more like a PS1 game, and D3 is only around PS2 level. Sure, some effects apparently can`t be done on the PS2, but still....

LOL graphics doesn't bother me. But its cool. I'm not planing to fight Baal. XD

i've never played any of the previous games, but this is really good, imo. my cous also purchased this and loves it.

playing this most of all, even though i have a ton of other games such a cod5, sf4, re5, lbp, mirrors edge, eternal sonata(boring tbh. not a real rpg too linear), far cry, etc etc

Actually, RPGs were originally known for their open nature. It's just that Japanese developers made them linear.

well compared to other games i wouldn't say so. i mean rpgs from baldaurs gate to final fantasy, they have a main story, but there are plenty of things you can do on the side which tends to be the a chunk of the game.

eternal sonata didn't allow you stray off from the main story, you couldn't roam around, take your own path and really build your characters how you please. it was all set in stages.

i liked this games story better than the other two. Lots more character development

I would have thought they could have done alot better with the game with everything that ps3 offers.I just hope they make Disgaea 4 some later on.The only thing i like about this game is the turn base system.

If you were expecting great graphics, you've not played the Disgaea/NIS games much, have you?

The PS2 games looks PS1 era, and this looks only a bit better IMO.

I do agree they could have done better, for sure. I mean, is it so hard to have decent resolution sprites amirite?

If NIS decides to up the bar with graphics, I hope they take a page from "Wario Land: Shake it". I haven't played the game myself, but I love the how the Cell-like graphics were done.

Its a really good game, its fun, it has hours of game play, good characters,witty humour and its probably the best rpg on ps3 right now (not including FFXIII since its not out yet, but there both made by square enix so they're obviously both gonna be good) so all in all yeah it is good, maybe they could have made it better but its still good =]
