Indeed we have seen this video, and concluded it says less about the statistics behind getting this bow and more about the statistics of desire...is similar to another video where the title is "Halo 3 on Your PS 3." And the fellow sets the game disk on top of the PS 3.

The number of views of these videos alone says it all.

I for one do not believe anybody got this legitimately.

What were talking about here, statistically is:

Chest appearance rate: 1%

Percent gil: 80%

Percent Item: 20% Knot of Rust (80% of Items) Bow (5% of Items).

So, you would have about a 1:10,000 chance of getting the bow each time you enter the airship upper deck.

This chance does NOT improve with subsequent entrances.

I have spent days trying to get the bow. Have noted several things.

1) Starting out from a Save or a reboot will take approx. 2 hours to get the first chest.

2) Starting out from hunting/opening chests in other areas, I will get first chest within 1 hour.

3) A common pattern has been to get 10 gils twice, and then a Knot of Rust.

4) Sometimes after hunting/opening chests first chest will be Knot of Rust.

None of these things are real facts as the moving characters on the ship will move the RNG.

However, it would seem to me that if there is any way to affect the random number generator, it would be beneficial to see what will get the Knot of Rust, as this means accessing the 20% chance of getting an item.

GM and I have discussed that it could be true that the game will not give up the bow early on in the game. I have read one account where someone claimed to get the bow on his second playthrough flying out of Balfonheim, first chest, after doing hunting/chest farming in the Cerobi Steppe.

If this story is to be believed, the best shot is to try and get the %Item on the first chest you get.

So, getting the %Item, Knot of Rust (or Bow obviously), on the first chest would be something to note.

Both GM and I are going to try for the bow without cheat codes.

I have no quarrel with cheat codes nor how people choose to play their game, just be HONEST about it!!

How is that one guy cheating? He could have just went to see if there was a chest, went back to the door (not entering) and then started the recorder. Well, thats what I am doing.

I don't get it. You say on the FFXII board that you would never go for the Zodiac Spear in the Henne Mines, and here you are getting the Steintegrate Bow with a 1/10000 chance! Good job!

In my PASNG, I banned the use of the bow untill after the events of the Pharos.

BTW: How many total hours did it take you to get this bow?

I did the trial mode for a bit and only got to the three Bagolies because I was Penelo only and at level 12. Not very fun. All of the chests are similiar to the ones in the Great Crystal.
