Steel Talons

OK, for GDI i use the steel talons, or core GDI. the idea is generally the same, do u want preds and APCs, or titans and wolvies?

given the APCs can garrison infantry, diversifiying them, plus the pred and APC are both cheaper than their steel talon counter part, but the steel talon units have a little more armour i think...

Its when u get to the artillery that the steel talons take the cake, the behemoth seems to be a little more accurate to me with its shells, plus u can garrison infantry into those also, missle guys for AA capable artillery, sweet...

Now to the down side of things...we all know the juggy and the behemoth are walker units, and therefore weak to commandos...but did u you know that titans are weak to commandos also? they are, so u may wanna take that into consideration when chosing your GDI faction. I havnt seen a wolvy get taken out by a commando, but they're walkers too arnt they? Think about it...

In conclusion, i tend to use core GDI a little more, but still love to see titans and wolvies make a mess on ocassion..

Another negative point are their garrisonable harvesters, while I would normally cheer this on, their lack of infantry really takes the advantage out of it. It would be better if they got the missile harvester and ZOCOM got the garrisonable one. But that's just my opinion.

And the wolvy is just too small to take out its feet. The commando would have to duck to stick it on there, so that's why he can't.

re: Steel Talons

Aulis will suffice, cypher.

Anyway, the Railgun Accelerator power is one to definitely take into account, it can generate unbelievable havoc upon whoever opposes the Steel Talons. A bunch of units that suddenly start firing much faster can rip through entire armies easily. It's definitely one of my favorite support powers now. Though your units get damaged, it's still a worthwhile trade, especially if you can avoid the units don't draw too much fire, or have some of those repair apc's nearby.

One thing I do dislike about the Steel Talons though, is that they still have a MARV, with its sonic cannon. I would've much preferred seeing a Mammoth mk II or a new version of it as their Epic unit, it could be very similar in ability and stats, but with Railguns instead and the Second Tiberium War look.

re: Steel Talons

i can understand ur greif... i would've liked that myself, but i think that may've been asking a lot of EA, another epic unit just for a sub faction? u give the steel talons one, and next thing u know the marked of kane are gonna want their cyborgs to be able to mash together to form a redeemer or some version there of, depending on what type and how many different ones u use..."cyborgs! transform!"
lol

but a great idea none the less, also, thanx for bringing up the rail gun accelerator, i almost forgot it, shame on me...

re: Steel Talons

Well, it is a pity that many infantry (such as the cyborgs) can't be put into any epic units. It would've greatly diversified things. Another annoying bit, is that you can put other faction's infantry into your own epic units. I would've loved to see that happen.

Also, is it just me, or are the wolverines ridiculously effective again infantry?

re: Steel Talons

Well, of course they're effective against infantry, I put in that ‘ridiculously’ for a reason. Nod buggies and APC's are nowhere near as effective against infantry.

re: Steel Talons

well, dont complain then, just use em to piss off the noddies...lol,

but it may have something to do with the fact that they have 2 guns instead of the APC & raider's 1..

re: Steel Talons

lol, have guys tried ZOCOM ever? The Hammerhead+Zone Raider combo is possibly the best combp in the whole game, you just need 2 more upgrades, AP ammo and ceramic armour and 6 hammerheads with zone raiders inside can level down bases with even with heavy AA defenses. ZOCOM has almost all that Core GDI has plus more and Steel Talons have too many disadvantages, the pred is about par with the titan on a cost basis. ZOCOM wins.

re: Steel Talons

Archimonde, this is a Steel Talons discussion, not a ZOCOM discussion. We know Hammerheads + Zone Raiders is a good combo. To be honest, Zone Raiders should be a tad more expensive, and they are still easily defeated by a number of air units.

Which reminds me, as I've never checked, how is Steel Talons' air power?

re: Steel Talons

steel talons air power is so-so...with limited infantry theres not a whole lot to put in the hammerheads, but like core GDI they do get the hardpoints upgrade, so firehawks are a good choice with them i think..

re: Steel Talons

I felt someone was saying "Core GDI is best between GDI" or something like that.

ANyway STeel talon's uber advantage which people still haven't found out (they do know this but don't use it often) is the wolverine, believe me give them AP ammo and pack them up with pitbulls and you can patrol and control alot of the map. Another big thing is Behemoths! Behemoths have a garrisonable spot although not too great with Steel talons infantry force as soon as you capture another faction's barracks/con yard they'll be worth amazing. Even on their own you can use them in high numbers backed up with slingshots and some riflemen squad garrisoned and they're still unstoppable possibly only counter-able by either a teleportable eradicator (to crush them) or mass specters (they have huge splash and can roll in some purifiers for fun after it!).

BTW, the hammerhead+zone raider attack IS rather unstoppable. You just have to move back and attack from different angles, after all the Hammerhead is a fast air unit, only thing that can beat this is a venom spam which people won't do in Kane's Wrath anymore due to the cost increase and the increased number of AA weapons.

re: Steel Talons

yea, i think the behemoth goes under used myself, in large numbers, and backed by slingshots, and garrisoned with riflemen, theres not much that can get em, you'ld only need worry about tank spam i think, and even then not all the tanks would get close enough. it would be a numbers thing for that i think.

beyond that, the thrill i get from the talons is playing with the titan and wolverine again, with the upgrades of course, the only thing is, neither unit is AA capable, so u have to send slingshots along, and sometimes that messes up the nostalgia...
