don't be embarrassed about that I draw them all the time it seems.
http://www.neoseeker.com/members/Lone+Drifter/fanart/ There are many ways to learn how to draw. I basically started with mechs. A good way to learn is to take a reference picture and draw from it, while thinking about why what is happening in the picture is happening. Digimon are very much like animals, so say learning how to draw a dog correctly could help you there. Many of them (digimon) are based on mythical creatures, and many mythical creatures basically just combine different parts from different animals. That said, understanding basic anatomy(such as the skeleton, and what muscles go where(you don't need to know the names, just what goes where and their basic shapes)) is a must, as that understanding can be applied across quite a broad range of species with major to minor changes. This topic is far too broad to sum up here, but one thing you'll notice is that dogs, cats, horse, really just about any animal does not stand on their feet, they stand on their toes. this is just an image found on google: look at the segments of the hind leg, and compare to your own leg. You'll notice that by comparison to your leg they are not standing on their feet, but their toes. This helps them to get better leverage, and thus move faster. It might seem silly or counter intuitive to point such things out, but I know that it does take practice to develop artist eyes and see things as they actually are, and not just how the mind interprets them to be for processing and storage efficiency. Sitting down with a reference picture and trying to draw from it while thinking about what is going can help you overcome this common problem for almost every artist. Understanding what you are drawing, and why it works is the key to drawing basically anything. Hope that is helpful This message was edited by Lone Drifter on Aug 21 2009.

I remember at school having "How to Draw Comics: The Marvel Way!" and it has lots of tips for drawing dramatic-looking stances and scenes, and stuff about line-weight and under/over working your picture. As well as a lot of human body proportion guides and perspective stuff.

Sorry to not have posted a reply yet. I'm glad that you found it helpful, and like a few of my drawing. If it looks like a donkey that means you probably made the snout and ears too big or possible put the chest too low. The best way to learn is still going to be to practice with references, while trying to understand the reference and gaining a better understanding of anatomy.
As for me...right now I'm shocked at my schedule. On Mondays I'll be in classes from 8:30AM to 7:30PM...I only have one break for lunch from 10:10-11:15... the rest of that is solid classes... and they are not going to be easy classes either... They are science and engineering classes and labs. I guess this just gives me even more reason to hate Mondays.
