Ark central
Picture a giant Ark, a huge vessel floating in the blackness of space that's able to provide and sustain any kind of living environment within its hull. Now imagine that you and the entire AC community lived there. What kind of areas would there be in this unique world? What personal rooms would you have or want? This is an ongoing, long term project that can allow you all to explore and create your own surroundings, incorporating whatever themes you wish. Eventually we hope that there will be a coherent, visual environment contributed to by many of the members here. Possible concepts: Living quarters and personal rooms (and character) Functional areas - kitchens, laboratories, holographic training areas, generator rooms, command centres, industrial areas Social areas - lounges, ballrooms, anti-gravity sports arenas, zoos These are just examples; you might want to try your hand at designing several of them, you might have a great idea that's not listed there you wish to visualise. Remember that you can have whatever environment you wish in the Ark - for instance, Vbc has the idea of having her room partially surrounded by water, of being able to see small marine life through windows in her walls. This is a cool, off-the-wall concept that also leads to other possibilities in terms of the overall layout in the Ark. There must be a large pool with marine life in - can this also mean that there are marine research centres, or aqua sports? The possibilities are endless Sites of possible interest and inspiration: The Hospital - atmospheric interiors. Feng Zhu - see the film set designs in particular for great interiors. Moonapples - excellent alternative vehicle design. Perspective - simple perspective tutorials. Feel free to discuss and post ideas; any medium is acceptable for actual visual contributions. Hopefully this will interest a lot of people

Well, if I understand correctly, we are to design our own ark. Well let me be the first to contribute my own ideas.
My ark would be a boat imbued with magical properties that would allow it to travel to any location I should choose. It would be able to float under or above the sea, or even on top of the clouds, as well as to travel through space. I would have my own private quarters with which would obviously have a bed and dresser and all such things that you would find in a bedroom. But it would be connected to a room where I could go to focus on whatever I wanted. The walls of this room would magicly project my thoughts into a visual relm, enabling me not only to travel to a physical location but a mental location as well. Inside I would also be able to hear only the most pleasing melodies which are also projected by my mind. This one place would exist oustide of all time and space and allow me to exist in perfect contentment and isolation. The doorway to this room would be a portal into my mind. That is all that I ever truly wish for. Self Actualization is the only goal that I think is worth living for. I dont see anything that could compare to actually seeing your creativity coming to life. And I think that anything else is just a waste of time. In my mind I could be lost forever, without care for anything else, complete serenity and contentment. ::banner:: This message was edited by Wraith(moderator) on Apr 04 2004.

quote XDragon69The idea is for all of us to contribute designs to a single ark, really, so that it will result in an Art Central community living area. Imagine if this forum was a physical place and each of the individual threads was a personal room; what would these be like in a visual sense? The Ark setting is mainly to place some kind of context for everyone I really love your idea of mentral or astral projection, I think you could get some great designs visualised for that - is the process entirely magical, or would there be certain physical properties? Maybe fibreoptic or neuro-cables you can connect yourself to, in order to tap into your subconcious in a controlled way? (will have to add more later, running out of time!)

This is a very interesting idea, I will need time to think about it.
I too have always been interested in the minds process, and the fact that I can visualise something perfectly but be unable to draw it anoys me no end, so to have a room where I could pug myself in and become, in a sence, cyberconnected, allowing me to be in my mind, would be something Id have to have. Being able to creat the art in my mind then having it made real without having to put it through my body. That is a dream I would love to realise.

Well, it would be entirely magical. It would kill the idea of freedom if you were tethered to something with wires. But I see where you are going with this, and I must say I like it. Im wondering what ideas will come about. How about drawings, maybe we could also draw out doorways, and rooms to give people a better understanding of your vision. I am already drawing a doorway, I thank you for inspiring me.

I was thinking the same as Xdragon, I think it would be fun to make it more "curious", to maybe have places where is off limit's and have a door blocking the way, and if later on if you feel like opening the area you can. (I have even made a doorway lol..)
Or like you said Req, that we all have our own rooms, and if you choose to go someplace, and you see 5 door's, you choose to go to #3 and it says on the door "VBC room for eterlnal torment" Adn then you have the choice to enter the room or run pass it lol. ::banner:: This message was edited by Wraith on Apr 04 2004.

Well absolutely, the idea is to give as much freedom as possible, including the number of rooms, areas, etc. Nothing has to be finalised. We are hoping for a mass collection of drawings and designs that people come up with in their minds. Think of this as a jigsaw, with each member providing a few pieces at a time with their ideas until the whole Ark is visualised (nb. there's no time scale for this).
I was going to wait until I had a few more drawings, but I'll start the ball rolling with this: ![]() Just the passageway to an engine room that powers something aboard the Ark (hitherto undecided). I liked the idea of a dank, rusty maintenance area and the perspective hopefully adds to the gloom. The vertical 'poles' are actually liquid, flourescent lights to give the area some atmospheric lighting.

![]() Consider it a residence and shopping area combined into one. The uppermost area is a more luxurious suite for those rich enough to afford it, with central elevators leading to all floors (about 200 or so). This area would be found on the actual deck of the Ark, think of it like a mini city up there.

That's a nice start, Wraith, it's the entrance to a breeding ground of some sort (I seem to remember you mentioning it in a PM)? The door on the right is quite far off the ground, will there be steps leading upto it for the humans? Look forward to seeing how it progresses
V, should have given you some feedback before. I like the intricacy of the layout so far - you like your bathing areas, don't you? Would love to see some full visualisations of those places sometime as well; it'll be interesting to see how you combine the traditional aspects with modern technology (TV Room implies there's electricity, for example) - there's a lot of potential for that, I think.

Well, here is my room. The Core, a power source for something. Not naturally my room but inside the core, is my place. What will it look like? Easy, Emptiness. Pure Black, and nothing more. The pillars that contain the red energy are in connection with the core, they stabalize something for the ark and only gains the power from the core. It looks like not much, I know, but having to get effects and also light to dark shading in paint is hard. And no, I wasn't gone the whole time just because of this. And I noticed this, if the core's light shows that the black on the pathway is the background, then where's the rest of the left pole? Well it's my room and it's weird like that, okay?
