Fanart Submission Rules |
|
Welcome to the FanArt section to Neoseeker! This section is a separate part from the forum and is for fanart submissions. All the fanart you submit through this system will be tied to your profile like a contribution. So anyone who clicks on your profile can see the work you've submitted and comment on it if they wish to do so. From here you can start to submit your fanart. We do have rules and a quality standard (not as in how good you are to draw, but how clean and visible the scan is of your submissions), so please read the following rules and guides as it is mandetory. Currently there is 3 people manually approving your drawings, if you have any questions at all, do not hesitate at all to contact any of us! We are here to help and guide you. =) The Team Wraith - LanDi Sama - Daisy ![]() The "General Discussion" can be found here. You can post questions or comments of this feature there. This is a quality guide/help thread to help you make your drawing look more clean and pass the "quality inspection", To make sure it's not misunderstood, this does not mean how good you are to draw, but how visible and clean the scan of your drawing is. We don't only accept masterpieces, but all levels of skills as long we see there is some effort to make it. To understand the difference, you can either contact a member of the team or use this thread. The contents of the first post is added in the next post in this thread. Neos Fanart Submission Rules

As mentioned in the above post, this is whats been added in the qualification guide for quality images. ^^
(This might get updated with more guides from other members, keep an eye out if you're interested.) The reason we have this quality rule is because when others go to sites to look at fanart, it's always fun to look at something that is not pulled out of... who knows where. XD So to get down to business! =3 First thing to check is if your picture was properly scanned. Here the picture was put on the scanner crooked,Naughty LanDi! By doing this firstly the subject become crooked and you see the scanner lid which is extremely distracting and not nice to look at. ![]() The right way to scan a picture is to have the paper straight on the scanner! ;D Another scanning problem is the shades that can come from scanning: ![]() The shade on the top and left side can easily avoided by either tearing the sheet of paper off the pad, or the paper might be quite thick, and if it doesn't quite fit the scanner in size. Theres 2 solutions for the 2nd problem. You can either cut it making the paper fit the scanner, or you can simply put some pressure (not to hard, mind the scanner) on where the shade develops, with a book or your hand. I recommend a book, since you might shake your hand while the scanner is scanning. That will make blurred lines if the drawing is even the sligthest shaken during scanning. But if you have a steady hand, go for it. ^^ ![]() You see how the subject is not centered. The way to get it right is to crop/cut away from the bottom and on the right side. If needed, you could change the canvas size (not the image size) and make it broader, so that you might get some more space on the left side if it's needed. After you have cropped it, it will look like this and be approved: ![]() Now he has a reason to smile! =D Here you can see it is way to dark. Since this is done in ink, you probably don't need to touch the contrast at all, but with pencil it's common to use contrast to make it look sharper (example will come later with pencil). But this is too dark, so we will need to tweak the brigthness and maybe the contrast. ![]() After changing the brigthness, and a bit of the contrast, we will get this: ![]() Much nicer to look at! =D But, there is such a thing as too much brigthness and contrast! ![]() Here you see the lines have gotten way to thick because of the overuse of the contrast. this is not nice too look at even though it eliminates the soft shades that might come in a picture. Experiment a bit to find the perfect balance between brigthnes and contrast. ^^ you must use different methods between mediums like ink and pencil. ;D ![]() 1) Eraser leftovers or eraser poo I eloquently like to call it. There are several ways to get rid of it. Before you scan it, you can brush it away with a clean and stiff haired brush. You can try and wipe it away with your hand, but that will much easier smudge your drawing. If you've brushed everything off your picture, and it still shows, it might be on your scanner. clean it every once in a while to keep it form popping up. ^^ If you have done this, and it still pops up, it might be stuck to the paper. If it's not to much, you can always colour over it using paint shop (or similar). That is not considered a no no ;D 2) Finger prints... They are awful to look at and awful to get rid off. If you've erased the hardest you can (without crinkling the paper) and it still doesn't go away, do the same you did with the eraser poo, just draw over it in photo shop! ^^ 3) Smudges in a drawn area... The best way to get rid of it is to never made it at all. Think of drawing with pencil like painting the floor, always shade the areas furthest away from where your hand (the exit) touches the paper. Smudges like these can also come when you try to dust away the eraser poo, if your hands are clammy (which is easy to get if you've been clutching your pencil after a while), and you have no brush, and blowing it away (without spitting XD) dry your hands, and use the side of your hand (where your pinky finger is, not thumb side) and barely touching the paper, clear it away. ^^ Tricky but nice if it's done right. ^^ 4) Half assed sketches. In these areas where the number 4 is, you see it's pretty shadily drawn. we do accept sketches, but something as fast done as the right side of the picture is on the fence area if it does accepted or not. if the entire picture was like the left side, sketchy but yet somewhat whole, it will get approved. Quality of the art may have a factor in it as well when it comes to sketches. 5) This is just to show the difference when a picture gets edited with contrast and brightness of the 2 sides. your picture, it's easy to crinkle the paper. Like Cloud illustrates here: ![]() Amy took a bit high contrast on this image so that the crinkles shows more, so you shouldn't do this. XD It's not easy to fix this with contrast, but if it does, thats great, but again, use that handy paint tool to colour over where it is possible without ruining, your picture. There are few things we just don't approve. First is sprites, and edited sprites like this: Even though you've added items to the sprite, or changed the colour of the fur in this case, it is not considered as freehand drawings. While on the subject of freehand drawing... This is NOT one of them: ![]() These are tools used through paint shop, not considered computer drawn even if you used a tablet to make it. ![]() Bad LanDi, this will not be approved! LanDi: T.T Finding an official screenshot or artwork, and adding lots of effects to it through photoshop is not considered art made by you, first, the image you edit is not made by you, and the effects are amde by the computer, there's not nothing freehand about it ;D ![]() Tasteful nudity is a hint of something something, not a full view of something something. Sephy Will demonstrate, and Vegeta will clarify. XD ![]() Such a shame |D.. I mean... Move along, move along, nothing to see here!! (Pictures Made by LanDi Sama and myself) | |
