Are locations customisable?

Can we customise hotels and can they be run? Can resorts be custom built?

(I was too lazy to log in.)

Yes, and yes.
You can customize anything in the resorts, and to my knowledge, you can make your own resorts, but I'm not 100%.

re: Are locations customisable?

In answer to your ?'s --- No, No and Yes.
I've had this expansion pkg for 4 or 5 days now.
The resorts in this game are similar to the dorms in University. In other words you CAN NOT do too much with the resorts that already exist. You can't move walls, change roof styles, fences, doors, windows, etc. - you're stuck with what they gave you. You can change the wall and floor colors and the furniture. It limits you and kind of stinks!! Also, the resorts are already being run by auto sims. I really wish you could totally overhaul everything - like you can houses and businesses. I attempted making my own resort this morning - but when I tried to have my Sims travel there I got a pop-up saying that they have to check into a hotel/resort....I'll have to figure out why that's happening. One more thing --- I wish there were more new furniture selections - they really skimped out in that area.

re: Are locations customisable?

Actually you can go in and change the resorts that Maxis added.
i have made a few of my rooms larger and redecorated a few.

I have also went in and added tents to a few of the lots.

Of course I ALWAYS add the multi picture hacked picture so i can change skills and stuff as I like.

You can build your own using the dorm cheat same way as you did with University for the dorms

here is the cheat
changelotzoning [residential | community | hotel | ]

Changes the zoning type of one's lot. MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO SIMS IN THE HOUSEHOLD BEFORE CHANGING THE TYPE.

From the Guide itself here is some build related info also

quote
Build Mode Additions: Beaches

With new beach lot templates your sims can, for the first time, reach the beach. Build mode's empty lots bin now contains a second panel, "Beach Lots". These new templates come in an array of sizes. 3x5, 4x5, 5x5, 5x6
Only these lots, when properly placed, will create a useable beach. Beach lots can only be placed between a road and water. With these basic requirements met, a template can be placed only if at least half the lots is on land. Also at least one tile needs to be overlapping the water. ( there are some good pictures in the guide illustrating this so I'm sure someone will post this to make it clearer). You can't build or place items on the beach portion of a beach lot. There are 5 new ground covers that give you power to fine tune your beachfront lots.

Roofs

Pagoda roofs. 3 new roof textures in an array of colors. 6 new roof decorations that can be found under decorative >misc. in buy mode.

Build Mode Objects

There are several new doors, windows, arches, trees and plants.

Also there are 5 pieces under objects that you can use to build a pyramid. They can create some pretty complex structures, but Sims can't climb them.

You can read a sample of more guide info (22 pages of info straight out of it) Here
