Deus Ex 3 Cancelled Then... |
|
Ion Storm's Austin office has officialy closed it's doors now. Many of the more high-profile staff members have left, so I guess we can kiss our dreams of Deus Ex 3 a firm goodbye...

That sucks. At least we still have the first Deus Ex to console us.

This is a real shame.
But, isn't this what happened to Looking Glass? and thief 3 was still released. it's a longshot but don't give up hope. too many people love that game just to let it die... | |

It comes from the phrase "Deus Ex Machina" meaning god from machine. According to Wikipedia: Deus ex machina is a Latin phrase that is used to describe an unexpected, artificial, or improbable character, device, or event introduced suddenly in a work of fiction or drama to resolve a situation or untangle a plot.

Deus Ex Machina literally meant when in a roman play, they dropped an actor playing a god out of the sky on a crane, onto the stage. The crane was the machine in question.
In the game Deus Ex, you end up creating a god from Helios (the machine) and JC Denton (also part machine kinda). Hence, "God from the Machine". -------------------

My interpretation of it was that J.C. Denton was essentially the Deus Ex Machina. He essentially was dropped into the game and untangles the plot. I don't think Helios would count since it can be destroyed in one of the endings.
