how do i get rid of the lights to go down the hall that is up the steps from the idol in the hall of arrogance antechamber??? realy need help with this

Instead of going up the steps, double back on yourself and go the other way down the hall ( the direction in which the idols are facing, I believe ) It will mean a fair bit of fighting, and making your way through a few portions of the map, but you should be able to find your way from there.
