What a week it’s been. I can’t go out on the doorway without being launched at by a photographer or a Liverpool fan wanting an autograph and other banter. In the trophy room, that takes the best seat, my Premier League winners medal hangs so elegantly in the bulletproof glass cabinet. Small trophies, medals all surround it round the edges from Brighouse Juniors, Clifton Rangers, Farsley Celtic and Huddersfield Town. However, with much more room to fill, my Liverpool cabinet which contains my winners medal, decorated with blue ribbon and the gold on the medal gladly bounces of the light and flung around the room. Of course, me and my Dad whatever happens at the end of May, we always sit down and watch the FA Cup Final, no matter what happens me and my Dad will be there on the black leather sofas tuning into BBC. Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer and Martin O’Neill are based in the Wembley Way studio building up the huge match between Chelsea vs. Manchester United, they met each other in the first New Wembley final in 2007 as well, which Chelsea came out on top of. As a Manchester United fan, I’d be rooting for them. I, of course wouldn’t make it public or else I wouldn’t be welcomed at the New Anfield ever again. Many Liverpool fans will be hoping for a United win after the season long battle we’ve had with Chelsea to snatch the Premier League trophy and bring it back to the New Anfield for the first time. Chelsea, lead by John Terry and Manchester United lead by Rio Ferdinand both introduced the squad to the all high and mighties of English football and the national anthem blasts out! You couldn’t really tell the English from the foreign as hardly any of them were singing, they were more concentrated on the match, I think… […] Well, what a match that was. All of the goals came in the first half of normal time as Carlos Tevez opened up the FA Cup Final for goals in the very first minute to stop Chelsea in their tracks. They now had to re-think their whole match plan and they did it well after regaining the score at 1-1. Unlikely scorer, Michael Essien got the vital equalizer for Chelsea and they went on to take the lead later on in the half through Didier Drogba, who got his 18th goal of the season. It was only to last two minutes as Wayne Rooney converted from the penalty spot with just seven minutes of the half remaining. United probably would’ve won if it wasn’t for Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo getting injured. It ran through to full time with the scores deadlocked at 2-2. Come thirty minutes later and the score is still the same. Salomon Kalou, Luka Modric and Frank Lampard got Chelsea’s first three penalties, capitalizing on Owen Hargreaves and Anderson missing United’s penalties. Darren Fletcher got United’s one and only penalty, this left Alex to convert the winning penalty for Chelsea to win the FA Cup. I suppose it was compensation for their league finish of third.

It was time for the end of season International friendlies and/or qualifying match(es). Unlike all the other players who were jaded from the season, you’d have thought season had only just begun if you saw me running up and down the pitch. The youngest player in the England senior squad was Micah Richards at 22 years of age, I started to focus myself away from the senior squad as it slightly unrealistic even if I had just won a Premier League winners’ medal. I got called up to the Under-21’s for the March friendlies and I played in one of them which was very encouraging to my future in International Football. I knew I wasn’t going to drop down to the Under-19’s so I was expecting the e-mail from The FA regarding the under-21’s. I wasn’t wrong, you know. I got called up for two summer under-21’s matches, the first a qualifying match and the second an International Friendly. We faced FYR Macedonia on the 3rd which was part of our qualifying campaign with Norway to follow in an International Friendly. We jetted off on the 31st of May to Skojpe, Macedonia so we could train for a few days. Funnily, I wasn’t recognized that much on my first visit to the under-21’s in March, but now a Premier League winners’ medal and they all starting talking to me about it and now I felt like one of the gang. I felt for comfortable going into the match in Macedonia on Friday and it worked as I was picked on the left-wing for the qualifying match of the summer matches. We only just scraped through the match following a Jordan Spence 52nd minute winner. After one match of the qualifiers you can’t really judge your opponents, but on paper we looked strong favourites to qualify for the U-21’s European Championships, I hoped to be in the senior squad by then. But I must think about now and Norway was the task ahead for the U-21 friendly ahead of us. It was a much exciting game with us clinching a summer double with victories over Macedonia and now Norway, 4-0 the score line. Joe Mattock and Daniel Sturridge – two of England’s brightest future stars both got the first half goals to put us two nil up going into the second half where Martyn Waghorn got our remaining two goals to finish Norway off, 4-0. The senior squad then went and beat Norway 4-0 as well!
