re: Zelda Vs Okami: better or worse? |

The problem with Zelda is that it's as formulaic as ****.
I mean seriously, after how many games Link is still perpetually trapped in a collect all # of the _______ quest? And you still basically just have a series of intricate dungeons in which you pretty much always find a single item to aid you in your quest and help you stun whatever the dungeon's boss is. Games tend to be 'original' based off of a single game play gimmick and because they change the gear around a little. There are a some basic similarities in game play but overall I find the comparison kind of insulting. Okami is a lot more story based and it happens to show a little restraint. I'm actually kind of impressed that when you enter the water dragon it's pretty much a straight shot back, a quick puzzle, a sub boss and an escape sequence as opposed to an intricate maze of puzzles during which you have to haul around a lazy Zora princess.

Anything that doesn't involve Navi will win every time.....

Personally, I prefer Okami for the reasons that have already been said, like the replay value, for example. I've played it two times already (on my third) and I still haven't gotten bored with it. While TP is definitely a great game, I only wanted to finish it, rather than play it over and over again like Okami.
Another factor is that the cutscenes in Okami were brilliant, whereas TP wasn't quite as interesting/touching/beautiful. Ehr... S'yeah.

Well, out of the entire Zelda series TP was my least favorite since it was the least interesting and least innovative (though the weapons were really cool) but to compare Okami with the rest of the series Zelda does have a number of good points. The best storyline and most interactive side quests you have to turn to Majora's Mask.
Ocarina of Time will always be the first one that people of my generation will think of when they think of Zelda because odds are it was one of the first games they owned and became one that they grew up on. OoT was innovative for the time that it was made and you can't ignore that. I loved Windwaker. Even though you claim that the cell shading in Okami was better than it was in Okami I'm not sure I can agree. I do agree that the art work in Okami was absolutely beautiful but that's because it had a purpose whereas the artwork in Windwaker was really there just to look smooth. The puzzles in Zelda were better, but that's of course because Zelda has always been a puzzle game whereas Okami is more centered around battle and side quests. Ultimately it's hard to judge Okami against Zelda. There are obviously many similarities between the two and if Zelda had never been made then Okami may have never been made in the this form as we know it. Zelda is sort of a stepping stone game that makes the way for future games like Okami but Okami is a game that reinvents the genre. So I suppose I'm kind of on the fence because I enjoy both for what they are. I really can't choose.

quote wHiTeShAdOwSHonestly, I found Issun more annoying than Navi. At least you could ignore Navi whereas Issun had a bad habit of talking whenever he wanted. Plus he was kind of an idiot.
