Brett Rogers would be a pretty solid underdog bet

Fedor should win, but if Rogers can land one good shot an rock Fedor then he could be in trouble.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it. Fedor should win, but all it will take is one punch from Brett Rogers to put anyone out. The trouble is landing that punch.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

This isn't yet official but word is the Fedor-Rogers fight could happen on October 10. This according to ESPN's MMA Live via a "very reliable person". Now before you start thinking UFC counter-programming...probably not necessary. October 10 is the new date for WEC 43. The possible venue for 10/10 is Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Stay tuned.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

Here we go yet again...this may have SF implications: Gegard Mousasi is now off DREAM 11 next month. Undisclosed injury, possibly a shoulder injury suffered in that recent exhibition grappling match with Fedor. He was to have competed in the Super Hulk Tournament Semifinals at DREAM 11, probably against Sokoudjou. If he won that it likely meant either Ikuhisa Minowa or Hong-Man Choi. No comment from M-1, Mousasi's management isn't talking. With Strikeforce officials yet to announce the details for the promotion's next arena series show (maybe 10/10), it's unknown if there were any plans to use Mousasi this fall. Either way, stay tuned. Quite the "both ways" impact Fedor's already having on SF, eh?

In more positive news, Antwain Britt has signed with SF. Britt was to have been on season 8 of TUF and got into the house before he was forced off the show due to an injury. I've seen him fight a few times around here in UWC and he's looked fairly good despite a tough losst o IFL veteran Jamal Patterson. Maybe he can get back into UFC someday.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

IT'S ON...Fedor. Rogers. November 7. CBS.
quote Junkie
After months of speculation, Strikeforce today announced it has officially struck a deal with CBS and will begin airing some of its events on the U.S. network.

The first show to air on CBS will feature the long-awaited Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers heavyweight fight, which is slated for Saturday, Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Showtime Sports will produce a four-fight main card with a broadcasting team of Gus Johnson, Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo.

Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) a location and venue have not been determined for the event but should be announced in the next few days.

Additionally, he said Emelianenko vs. Rogers currently is the only fight officially booked for the show.

CBS and Strikeforce's other broadcast partner, Showtime, are both part of the same ownership group. Terms of the CBS-Strikeforce deal were not disclosed.

CBS became the first major U.S. network to televise live mixed martial arts events in 2008, but its deal with EliteXC ended when the promotion collapsed under mounting financial pressures later in the year.

"There's no question this is a sport that is fast becoming a force in popularity and as a business," stated Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President, Prime Time, CBS Television. "We're excited to be the platform that will enable millions more to see the athlete regarded as the very best in his sport. The No. 1 heavyweight on the most-watched network has a very nice ring to it."

Emelianenko, widely regarded as the sport's top heavyweight fighter, signed a three-fight deal with Strikeforce in August. The former longtime PRIDE champion now enters the organization with a 26-fight win streak (with 20 stoppages), including victories over former UFC champions Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia in his two most recent bouts. He had been slated to fight Josh Barnett at "Affliction: Trilogy," but Barnett was denied a license due to a failed drug test, and the Aug. 1 event was scrapped altogether a few days later.

Rogers, meanwhile, enters the contest with a perfect 10-0 record with 10 stoppages. In fact, only one opponent (Abongo Humphrey) lasted more than a round with the Minnesota-based fighter. Most recently, Rogers, who had campaigned for Barnett's slot before the "Trilogy" event was ultimately canceled, scored a stunning 22-second knockout win over former UFC champ Arlovski at a June Strikeforce event in St. Louis.
Awaiting UFC counterprogramming plans, of course, but I know what I'm watching on this night.

And in more news, it's finally over...The SF Middleweight Championship is now VACANT. Cung Le has finally decided to give it up due to accepting yet another movie role. Determination fight between Jake Shields and Jason Miller is set for the just-announced event on 11/7 to crown a new undisputed champion. The fight will air on CBS.

The venue for 11/7 is all but set: Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL-near Chicago. Capacity: 11,000. The other bigger arenas they could've run were booked already-United Center has an NBA game that night, U. of Ill.-Chicago is hosting some Indian Powwow, Allstate Arena (hosted UFC 90) has a circus.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

This isn't done yet, but SF may soon get Bobby Lashley.
quote
Bobby Lashley is currently under contract to Prize Fight Promotions, but they have continually delayed the proposed fight with Ron Waterman. Prize Fight Promotions are currently negotiating to transfer his contract to Strikeforce. It is not a done deal, but is expected to go through and there are reports that Strikeforce wants him to fight on the November 7th CBS show.

Strikeforce has previously had interest in Lashley, but throwing him onto CBS is the opposite of what they had planned. The company had originally wanted to bring in Lashley, and debut him on the Strikeforce Challengers events, where he would face progressively tougher opponents. The feeling with debuting him on CBS is that from a curiosity and ratings standpoint, it would mean more.

TNA wants to promote Lashley's fights on their TV show to make him a huge cross over star. Srikeforce, unlike UFC, would work with TNA, due to the fact that TNA can promote the Lashley fights to roughly 1.5 million fans weekly. They would also not have a problem with Lashley wrestling.
Hopefully it's enough time for Lashley to be ready, he'd be looking at roughly 4 weeks' notice.

And also supposedly coming to SF-Money. JT Money. Jesse Taylor will be fighting in November, probably on the 11/6 SF Challengers event. He hasn't revealed his opponent yet but that foe revealed himself today-Luke Rockhold.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

OK, this is close enough to SF-related to post here...

Yes, possibly airbrushed but so what? Oh, for those who can't wait to get their copy...Friday. Just hope they all don't get scooped up to the point we're left with the topless Adrian Peterson covers.

In actual news, Gegard Mousasi is officially on 11/7 and will defend the SF LHW Title. Waiting to hear who, rumor mills suggest Paulo Filho or Sokoudjou. Nuthuggers are already planning to cry foul if it's not Muhammad Lawal.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

There have been a few updates to the 11/7 card:
Mosuasi's opponent is, pending Illinois Boxing Commission fight approval, Sokoudjou.

Fabricio Werdum is facing Antonio Silva. The CSAC head has stated that, as long as Silva "plays by the rules", they have no objections to him fighting again. His drug test failure suspension is up and he is eligible to fight again in the US.

There were rumors Bobby Lashley would be on this event. That will not happen because the CBS card is full. Lashley is still talking to SF, if they reach a deal he will fight at a later date. Also off is SF Women's Champion Cristiane Santos. Shoulder injury suffered at ADCC last month.

Updated 11/7 card:
TV fights (CBS):
Fedor vs. Brett Rogers
Jason Miller vs. Jake Shields for the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship
SF Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi vs. Sokoudjou in a NON-TITLE match
Fabricio Werdum vs. Antonio Silva
Prelims:
Jesse Taylor vs. Luke Rockhold
Deray Davis vs. Mark Miller
Jonatas Novaes vs. Christian Uflacker

re: Strikeforce Discussion

Almost forgot Fedor vs Rogers is this Saturday. Glad it's free and all, but I hate when this stuff is on CBS. I always get it preempted by over an hour. Will have to avoid the forum until it airs for myself. =/ Unless I stream it off somewhere else. Haven't decided. Probably just wait so I can see a better quality on Tv.

re: Strikeforce Discussion

And UFC's got counterprogramming of course. I'll watch if I'm home, gotta try and get a new car Saturday and that'll take all day if I'm successful.

Here is the final Saturday card:
Prelims:
Christian Uflacker vs. Jonatas Novaes
Louis Taylor vs. Nate Moore
John Kolosci vs. Shamar Bailey
Jeff Curran vs. Dustin Neace (SF's site says Sam Thao but that appears to be wrong)
Deray Davis vs. Mark Miller
Marloes Coenen vs. Roxanne Modafferi (swing bout, will air on TV if time permits. Modafferi is a late replacement for Erin Toughill, who is off due to medical issues). Winner might get Cristiane Santos for the women's title-Santos is expected back for the next SF event, possibly December 19.

TV fights (CBS):
Antonio Silva vs. Fabricio Werdum
Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi vs. Sokoudjou in a NON-TITLE match
Jaosn Miller vs. Jake Shields for the vacant Strikeforce Middleweight Championship
Main Event: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers

Why is Mousasi-Soko non-title? Supposedly because Soko's still got a few fights left on his deal with DREAM and SF doesn't want him bolting to Japan and pulling an Alistair Overeem with the title. As for Overeem, if you're wondering...proabbly March or April. Next fight is at Fields Dynamite!! on NYE.

Edit: Next show after tomorrow is 12/19...yes, that's the same night as WEC 45. This one will be on Showtime and guess who apparently is fighting on this one? Cung Le. Tentatively set to face Scott Smith. The show will also feature Matt Lindland vs. Ronaldo Souza for possibly a MW Title shot, the SF sebut of Muhammad Lawal (probably at 205), and Evangelista Santos dropping to 170. But no Cristiane-Mrs. Cyborg likely won't return until January.

Results from the weigh-ins for tomorrow:
Dustin Neace missed weight-came in at 150.5, immediate retry was 150. After 1 hour he could only get down to 149.6. His fight is still on but he's fined 20% of his fight purse, which goes to Jeff Curran.
Fedor Emelianenko (232) vs. Brett Rogers (264)
Jason Miller (184) vs. Jake Shields (184.5)
Gegard Mousasi (205) vs. Sokoudjou (204)
Fabricio Werdum (242) vs. Antonio Silva (263)
Marloes Coenen (145) vs. Roxanne Modafferi (140)
Jeff Curran (145) vs. Dustin Neace (149.6)
Shamar Bailey (170) vs. John Kolosci (171)
Deray Davis (170.5) vs. Mark Miller (171)
Nate Moore (184) vs. Louis Taylor (185.5)
Jonatas Novaes (155.5) vs. Christian Uflacker (156)

re: Strikeforce Discussion

This just in: WAMMA isn't dead. The MMA sanctioning body is alive and well. They put out a late press release announcing they are sanctioning Fedor-Rogers and thus it's for Fedor's WAMMA Heavyweight Title. Expect new-look belt to be unveiled tonight.

I sure thought they were dead.
