Good news for the promotion and US fans: World Victory Road has signed a deal with HDNet Fights that will result in Sengoku events being aired in the US starting with Sengoku 7 on March 20 (yeah, turns out the January one wasn't Sengoku 7). It'll feature the start of a Featherweight tournament and Muhammad Lawal vs. Ryo Kawamura.

If they get the same deal as DREAM, probably. That means 4-5 AM ET starts. Now if someone could just get Jewels this kind of deal I'll be happy.

Sengoku 8 results:
Non-Tournament Fights: Shigeki Osawa beat Kota Ishibashi by unanimous decision, 2 20-19s and 1 20-18. (2 round fight) Hirotoshi Saito (sp?) beat Yoshitaka Abe by submission (armbar) at 2:52 of round 1. Akihiko Mori beat Maximo Blanco by DQ at 4:20 of round 1. Blanco KO'd Mori with an illegal soccer kick for the DQ. Stanislav Nedkov beat Travis Wiuff by TKO (strikes) at 42 seconds of round 3. Makoto Takimoto beat Michael Costa by submission (heel hook) at 3:31 of round 1. Alexandre Ribeiro beat Keiichiro Yamamiya by KO at 2:20 of round 3. Kazunori Yokota beat Leonardo Santos by split decision, 30-28 Yokota, 30-29 Santos, 29-28 Yokota. As a result, Yokota likely will face Sengoku Lightweight Champion Satoru Kitaoka for the title next, possibly in August. Featherweight GP Quarterfinals: Marlon Sandro beat Nick Denis by KO in 19 seconds. Masanori Kanehara beat Chan Sung Jung by unanimous decision, 2 30-29s and 1 29-28. Michihiro Omigawa beat Nam Phan by TKO (strikes) at 4:452 of round 1. (UPSET! AGAIN!) Hatsu Hioki beat Ronnie Mann by submission (triangle) at 3:09 of round 1. The semis & finals will be a one-night deal at the next event in August. Unless they fight in the semis, it's looking like Sandro-Hioki could be the final. Fantasy record: 5-5. Blanco-Mori thrown out due to DQ. ------------------- My Blog-Sports, MMA, Girls, Etc.

re: World Victory Road (Sengoku Discussion) |

A very interesting development yesterday regarding Sengoku 9 on 8/2 due to a fighter in legal trouble:
Here's the deal-Kazuo Misaki is going to fight Kazuhiro Nakamura as planned despite being arrested and pleading guilty to charges of using a cellphone while driving-illegal in Tokyo-and interfering with the duties of a public official for fleeing after being pulled over by a cop and injuring the cop's wrist when his car's side mirror hit the cop. Misaki was suspended to 1 year in prison, but it was suspended for 3 years. Misaki still gets to fight on some interesting conditions: No pay. His entire fight purse will be donated to the Japan Foundation for AIDS Prevention. No title shot if he wins. The plan was for the winner to face Sengoku Middleweight Champion Jorge Santiago in the future. But if Nakamura wins, he will still get Santiago. Misaki is suspended indefinitely after the fight. A potentially interesting precedent Sengoku could be setting here, considering how UFC has handled the Quinton Jackson legal issues. Let's see if this could happen again when another fighter gets into trouble with the law. The current Sengoku 9 card (8/2) is as follows: Dan Hornbuckle vs. Akihiro Gono Clay French vs. Eiji Mitsuoka Mu Bae Choi vs. Yoshihiro Nakao Kazuyuki Fujita vs. Blagoi Ivanov Kazuo Misaki vs. Kazuhiko Nakamura (Nakamura gets title shot if he wins) Featherweight GP Semifinal: Michihiro Omigawa vs. Marlon Sandro Featherweight GP Semifinal: Hatsu Hioki vs. Masanoru Kanehara Featherweight GP Final: Semifinal winners Sengoku Lightweight Champion Satoru Kitaoka vs. Mizuto Hirota for the title Ivanov, making his MMA debut, is the guy who, either this year or last year, became famous for defeating Fedor Emelianenko in a major combat sambo tournament. ------------------- My Blog-Sports, MMA, Girls, Etc.

Sengoku 9 results (in progress):
Gold Cup Finals (TUF-style tournament): Ryosuke Komori beat Takeshi Numajiri by KO at 3:25 of round 1. Shigeki Osawa beat Toru Harai by TKO (strikes) at 4:24 of round 1. Ikuo Usuda beat Koji Ando by unanimous decision. Although it was scored a majority decision, 2 20-19s and 1 20-20, a judge who scored it a draw must pick a winner, they call it a "must decision vote", this one said Usuda. Featherweight GP Reserve Fight: Chan Sung Jung beat Matt Jaggers by submission (triangle) at 1:25 of round 2. FWGP Semifinals: Hatsu Hioki beat Masanori Kanehara by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-27, 29-28. Michihiro Omigawa beat Marlon Sandro by split decision. It originally was scored a Draw, 30-29 Sandro and 2 30-30s, but the 2 judges gave their "must decision" votes to Omigawa. Based on Sherdog PBP, this sounds like a very clear screwjob. Hioki cannot continue. Possible Concussion. Therefore the final is Omigawa vs. Kanehara. (I know, shouldn't it be Omigawa vs. Jung?) Non-tournament fights: Yoshihiro Nakao beat Mu Bae Choi by unanimous decision, 2 30-28s and 1 30-29. Eiji Mitsuoka beat Clay French by submission (guillotine) at 1:51 of round 1. Dan Hornbucke beat Akihiro Gono by KO at 2:50 of round 3. No word yet on Gono's ring entrance. (Edit: He wore a suit. Said to be rather conservative) Blagoi Ivanov beat Kazuyuki Fujita by split decision. Originally scored a Draw by one judge, he gave "must decision" to Ivanov. Kazuo Misaki beat Kazuhiro Nakamura by submission (guillotine) at 3:03 of round 1. As a result, Nakamura is denied a shot at Sengoku Middleweight Champion Jorge Santiago, if he won he got the shot. Misaki gets NOTHING-remember that he is now suspended indefinitely for recent criminal charges he pleaded guilty to and what would've been his fight purse goes to charity. He also lost what would've been a rematch with Santiago he would've just earned. Masanori Kanehara beat Michihiro Omigawa by split decision to win the Featherweight GP. It was scored a majority decision for Kanehara, 2 29-28s and 1 29-29, the "must decision" vote by the 29-29 judge went to Omigawa. (Thank goodness, I was thinking serious screwjob had Omigawa won) Mizuto Hirota beat Sengoku Lightweight Champion Satoru Kitaoka by TKO (knees to head) at 2:50 of round 4 to become THE NEW SENGOKU LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION! Announced participation for Sengoku 10 on 9/23: Hiroshi Izumi (debut), Makoto Takimoto. Also fighting but no date set: Satoshi Ishii and Hidehiko Yoshida. Fantasy record (including Gold Cup but not FWGP Finals): 7-5. This message was edited by DCRage on Aug 02 2009. ------------------- My Blog-Sports, MMA, Girls, Etc.

Sengoku 10 results:
Sengoku Gold Cup (fights were 2 rounds): Jae Hyun So beat Ryosuke Komori by unanimous decision. Shigeki Osawa beat Ki Hyun Kim by unanimous decision. Ikuo Usuda beat Woo Hyun Baek by TKO (strikes) at 4:59 of round 1. Main card: Maximo Blanco beat Tetsuya Yamada by TKO (strikes) at 1:12 of round 2. Joe Doerksen beat Takenori Sato by TKO (strikes) at 4:27 of round 2. Dan Hornbuckle beat Nick Thompson by TKO (strikes) at 1:30 of round 2. Fabio Silva beat Ryo Kawamura by TKO (corner stoppage-towel) at 2:28 of round 1. Kazunori Yokota beat Ryan Schultz by KO at 2:31 of round 1. Makoto Takimoto beat Jae Sun Lee by unanimous decision. Originally it was Takimoto by majority decision, 30-28, 30-29, 30-30, but in Sengoku when it’s scored a Draw by a judge the judge has to make a “must vote” and pick a winner. That judge picked Takimoto. Antonio Silva beat Jim York by submission (arm triangle) at 3:51 of round 1. Main event: Antz Nansen beat Hiroshi Izumi by TKO (strikes) at 2:56 of round 1. Next event: Sengoku 11 on TBA, but it may be December 31. Sengoku will run a big show on that date. That puts it against K-1 Dynamite!!, the annual NYE Japan blowout show. ------------------- My Blog-Sports, MMA, Girls, Etc.

Sengoku 11 quick results from earlier this morning:
Ryota Uozomi beat Yuichiro Yajima by submission (armbar) in round 1. Ronnie Mann beat Shigeki Osawa by unanimous decision. Dave Herman beat Jim York by KO in round 1. Marlon Sandro beat Yuji Hoshino by KO in round 1. Akihiro Gono beat Yoon Young Kim by unanimous decision. Stanislov Nedkov beat Kevin Randleman by split decision. Fight briefly stopped at one point due to a Nedkov wardrobe malfunction. Kazunori Yokota beat Eiji Mitsuoka by unanimous decision. Tomoaki Ueyama beat Hirokazu Konno by technical submission (rear naked choke) in round 1. Nap over tap. Jorge Masvidal beat Satoru Kitaoka by KO in round 2. Mamed Khalidov beat Sengoku Middleweight Champion Jorge Santiago by TKO (strikes) in round 1 in a NON-TITLE match. Main Event: Michihiro Omigawa beat Hatsu Hioki by split decision. Omigawa gets the upset yet again...and this time he seemed to disagree with it. Next up: Sengoku Raiden Championship in 12/31. Expect Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight and/or Middleweight title fights among others. And perhaps Omigawa shocking us all again.
