Yeah, I've never really been a fan. It's so frustrating as well to see an awesome athlete never live up to his potential. He's relied on the exact same tactics for his entire career and still has very limited stand up and ground skills.

I think there's a limit at fighters should fight. It can't be good for people like him and Randy fighting at their ages especially against more skilled, younger, and stronger guys. One day they'll get a horrible beating.
He's fighting Tito next. I know Tito's not as good, but I still predict a win for the Bad Boy.

Couture was beating everyone in the HW division before Lesnar stopped him Just because these fighters are getting older doesn't mean they should be cast aside and have their livelihoods taken away from them, especially if they can still win despite not being as strong or fast as their opponents.

re: Ultimate Fighting Championship® Discussion [06]

As long as they're medically cleared, it's all good. Dan Severn still fights and he's like 50. Don't worry about Randy (or Coleman), the guy's a one of a kind. It's gonna be a while until we see another guy his age consistently putting on a good performance against some of the best fighters in the world. I think he's the main inspiration for a lot of older fighters to either keep fighting or come out of retirement. So far, Randy's the only 40+ year old to have any real success.

Tito should be able to Mark Coleman and he has more ways to win

Bit of an overstatement.

re: Ultimate Fighting Championship® Discussion [06]

I know he's successful and all, I just think something's gonna go horribly wrong one day. There's only so much a body can take, and that's gonna significantly reduce as the years go by.

Does anyone reckon Wand will consider retirement? He's lost, what, 5 of his last 6?

re: Ultimate Fighting Championship® Discussion [06]

1-5 in his last 6, but he's only 33 and I think part of it was trouble adjusting from PRIDE to UFC. He seemed to be coming around recently though, the Jardine KO was proof of that before he got KO'd by Rampage. The cut to 185 should get him back on track. But retirement, no. He'll fight as long as he can and as long as he can keep putting on a good show for the fans, which he always does.

re: Ultimate Fighting Championship® Discussion [06]

It isn't so much chronological age, but the number of fights and wars that a fighter has been in that can determine his retirement date. Wanderlei started fighting as a teenager, reached his prime in his mid 20's and now, in his early 30's is on the decline. He's had almost 50 professional and has been in the wars for 10+ years now. Randy started fighting when he was like 35, which is one of the reasons he's been able to continue at such an old age.

You're out of your mind if you think Wanderlei has been 'coming around' recently. Yeah, the Jardine KO was great, but he hasn't been the same dominant fighter he once was for some time now . Wanderlei's one of those fighters who everyone just keeps waiting for to get a slue of highlight reel KO's and another title run, when it just isn't going to happen. I love Wanderlei, but he's past his prime and won't be a top fighter ever again. It's just the way shit goes and it happens in every sport.

The fight that changed it all for me was the Mark Hunt fight. If you got that on tape or DVD or whatever, go watch it - Wanderlei gets hit (hard!) several times in this match and he obviously didn't like it. His entire demeanor changes as well (during the fight) and he was no longer this intimidating monster that everyone was afraid of. He was extremely passive against Arona in their first fight and JUST barely won their second fight (I personally thought Arona won). Getting KO'd in his last two fights in Pride didn't help things either.

Also, when's the last time you saw him throw a head kick or use his knees? He's just not the same fighter any more.

Not any more. He's a very old man who can not punch or take down for shit [which is ironic as he took my trainer down twice but they were awful takedowns that should have been stopped], no disrespect intended.

And the video's been removed.

Terms of use violation, haha. This isn't Spike after 1 AM, Rogan.

UFC has confirmed Marcus Aurelio for UFC 102 to replace the injured Matt Veach. With that, here is the final 102 card:
Prelims:
Ed Herman vs. Aaron Simpson
Marcus Aurelio vs. Evan Dunham
Nick Catone vs. Mark Munoz
Todd Duffee vs. Tim Hague
Justin McCully vs. Mike Russow
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Chris Tuchscherer
PPV:
Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Brandon Vera
Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt for an eventual UFC Middleweight Title shot (probably after Hendo)
Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt
Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva
Main Event: Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

And I guess it was coming...first Vaseline-Gate and now Poke-Gate.

Almost funny.
