	I'll admit it's loosely defined. Academia's emphasis is more on solid facts and learning about them (as well as schooling, etc.) whereas I.E. tends to be more concerned with the blurred lines, opinions and philosophical discussions. ------------------- Credit to Willow Vampire <3 (+11.2)

In accordance with earlier discussion in this thread, many felt that the name 'Education' simply gave newcomers the wrong impression. This forum isn't just for discussing school and university, and we felt that a change in name would completely alter the first impression given by the forum. You may or may not have seen the thread about the name change, but Sphinx suggested Academia and it was shown the most support along with 'Pursuit of Knowledge' (hence my democracy comment), thus these were the names submitted to Red and Academia was chosen as the new name. I'm sorry if you felt the name change was unnecessary, but many people felt it was - myself included. So yep, you're stuck with it. ------------------- Credit to Willow Vampire <3 (+11.2)

	I am considering writing another commentary piece, but I'm not 100% sure what subject to choose. I like to write items like my Iran piece because it makes me think a bit more and sort of confound the base knowledge I have by doing some proper research. I think the problem with the name "Education" is it makes people believe they're supposed to talk about stuff like what classes they like and what they do at lunch time. Whereas the connotation of Academia leads one to believe that it would be more appropriate to talk about things like philosophy and science. It sort of sets the tone for the forum in that we expect behaviour of something of a higher calibre than you might expect elsewhere. PL is right, I stumbled here when it had undergone it's name change and if the forum still said "Education" I still would've come in here but in a different frame of mind as to when I did come in here when it said "Acadamia". If it had said "Education" I would've expected it to be about schooling, while "Academia" give the impression of a discussion about general knowledge. 	Got a question to ask you PL. Reckon it'd be feasible to set up an abiogenesis thread, you know, like improving general knowledge of it and having some debate as to its credibility and whatnot? My one issue is it might be considered by some to be on par with the Evolution thread in IE despite their being two completely different theories and all... 	The thread would be fine provided that it were based in fact rather than in conjecture. As you say, it should aim to teach and discuss facts rather than opinions and what may or may not be the case. For instance, you could have a sentence or brief paragraph stating that abiogenesis is a theory, and the thread is designed to discuss the facts of the theory as such, rather than discussing whether we should or shouldn't accept the theory. THAT's more the realm of I.E. But sure, if it were to meet those criteria, I wouldn't see a problem with it.
