I'll admit it's loosely defined.

Academia's emphasis is more on solid facts and learning about them (as well as schooling, etc.) whereas I.E. tends to be more concerned with the blurred lines, opinions and philosophical discussions.

Well I think we should have a footer contest as well as a header one, I think that could perk up the forum.

Or better question why change it at all. Now I have no clue what Academia means, although I can see it closely resemble Academics, but I personally don't really see the need to change it. Education, or Education forum was probably best suited imo.

TBH i agree with Unity post. But obviously its unrealistic to change it now, again. Most people will not like everything that comes out, but I just didn't see the real need for the change.</sub>

I am considering writing another commentary piece, but I'm not 100% sure what subject to choose. I like to write items like my Iran piece because it makes me think a bit more and sort of confound the base knowledge I have by doing some proper research. I'd like to cover modern propaganda, but I don't know if anyone would be interested in that.

I really enjoyed your bit on Iran because to be honest I hadn't a clue, I just presumed that what I read in the western media was true. So yea, I'd be interested.

I think the problem with the name "Education" is it makes people believe they're supposed to talk about stuff like what classes they like and what they do at lunch time. Whereas the connotation of Academia leads one to believe that it would be more appropriate to talk about things like philosophy and science.

Got a question to ask you PL. Reckon it'd be feasible to set up an abiogenesis thread, you know, like improving general knowledge of it and having some debate as to its credibility and whatnot? My one issue is it might be considered by some to be on par with the Evolution thread in IE despite their being two completely different theories and all...

Oh, and not suggesting you do this, more asking for permission to do so.

The thread would be fine provided that it were based in fact rather than in conjecture. As you say, it should aim to teach and discuss facts rather than opinions and what may or may not be the case.

For instance, you could have a sentence or brief paragraph stating that abiogenesis is a theory, and the thread is designed to discuss the facts of the theory as such, rather than discussing whether we should or shouldn't accept the theory. THAT's more the realm of I.E.

But sure, if it were to meet those criteria, I wouldn't see a problem with it. I'd at least initially have to keep a reasonably close eye on it though, as I'm sure you can understand.
