I'd read the abiogenisis thread, looks like the header contest that was so heavily supported here was a dud until a day ago. Also the Educational Pursuit is a failure.

Maybe debates could be apart of this forum. To make it so that people aren't intemidated by debating you can make three classes all of which that have different expectations for people who are participating in them.

I tried to get a debates thing going in Loungin' a couple weeks/months ago, didn't last too long. I think it had to do with the structure of the debate itself though. I never really got it sorted.

If I remember rightly, Dearest Apollo had some success in USA with a debating-type thread. I'll look into it.

The problem with most folks is that they believe they have no life if they put forth too much effort into something on the Internet and it's another problem of most people to care if others believe they have no life due to the fact that they put forth effort.

I'd be interesting in participating in debates. It's always a good thing to expand ones mind to other opinions and perspectives.

One thing I'll say, if the debates do occur they'd definitely need some exposure forum-wide to get some new members in. I definitely think the structure of the debates I tried to set up contributed to the fall though because I had no definite way of saying "Motion passed" or whatever.

I'd like to see debates apart of this forum they could get the forum some exposure.

I was just reading the Forum Rules and realised that it needs to be updated.

What specifically do you think needs changing? I've had another quick look, but I think that for the most part everything said there still applies. It perhaps detracts from the more laidback attitude we've since adopted, but that's more a vibe I think you get from the forum itself and its posts. I don't think that sort of thing can (or maybe even should) be conveyed through the rules.
