You can't really blame the newcomer for not immediately understanding this, can you? Especially since they'd either have to read this thread or Superfast Oz's to do so. Seems a bit... Well, you know.

I mean, even with your definition, the line's hardly clearly drawn.

Then it CERTAINLY isn't in the newcomers'.

Anything official, tbh. It's almost as though Superfast Oz created it, and then was like "So... what do you guys want to talk about?"

Like I said before, a simple sticky with forum rules like every other forum would go a very long way.

The forum was created based off a suggestion in RFS. I think it was titled Academia or something like that.

The purpose of the forum is really the pursuit of knowledge, and is aimed at people who want to learn new subject areas, or discuss stuff they are interested in. I suppose someone else might be able to articulate that better, but I'm sure there's a few people here who know what I mean.

I'd be prepared to install a moderator here to try and guide things, if you think that would help? I wanted to try and push this forum on myself, but it's difficult with my other duties on the site.

Tbh, I personally don't think that a moderator is necessary at this point. I think a simple sticky with forum-specific rules (of course, as you say, these should probably be better articulated through whichever means preferred) would be quite sufficient. Just to give a sense of direction and purpose.

There are evidently a number of people quite devoted to making this forum work and keeping it reasonably orderly, so I'm not too afraid of it going under just yet.
