re: Forum Suggestions and Feedback |

Hmm, I agree that this forum could be constructed a bit further other than topics and discussion (stickying rules, feedback + suggestions and all that stuff). I was thinking of having this forum rise in imagery (headers and banners) but maybe it's still unneeded at the moment considering the stats and everything,

It's a bit of a Catch-22 (man I love that book) situation. Do we add things that an active forum would have to try and gain activity or do we wait until activity rises to add things and make it look "official"? -------------------

I think you're onto something with that PL. Even though I haven't been in this forum long, what I have seen is that the activity of the supers is, well, not exactly noticeable. This is not a downfall on their behalf - they are incredibly busy with other, more important things as you said - but even if it doesn't meet the PPD requirements or doesn't have a big enough community to seem to warrant a mod of its own, the forum would definitely benefit from one. -------------------

I think a temporary mod to try and get the place up and running might be a good idea. -------------------

A temporary moderator is definitely better than a full-time moderator, I think. I like this forum because I can come here and nobody is above anyone else or acts like that either. Debates and disagreements are done and resolved without subtle attempts to belittle each other. I don't think a full-time moderator is going to be greatly beneficial.

You might very well find that introducing a temp. mod might build activity to the point that it needs a permanent mod anyway. The problem being, of course, that it's a bit optimistic to expect that if the activity doubles everyone's going to keep behaving this way in the absence of a moderator. ------------------- ![]() Auteured by My Apocalypse. I mean to return to this forum more often, but I've actually been semi-away from Neoseeker for a good while. I'll look at something for here tonight anyway, maybe a temp mod with the possibility for extending that to permanent as and when. I'd like to add another dimension to the forum which I don't think is covered much yet, which is what I originally got excited about with the forum, and that is sort of "the pursuit of knowledge", rather than the education system itself. -------------------

How do you mean "pursuit of knowledge"? -------------------

I'd like to make a suggestion. If a thread refers to the education system of a specific country, this should be mentioned in the title of that thread. I've already seen people becoming confused by internationally ambiguous phrases or words being used. SATs are completely different in America to what they are here. Their "college" is our "university", and they don't seem to have an equivalent of our "college". These are just examples of it. -------------------

re: Forum Suggestions and Feedback |
quote Irish GamerI believe the forums original intent wasn't to discuss education or the education system, although it does fall under the forums umbrella, but more the idea of wanting to learn more about a subject, with like minded individuals or to develop/ask questions and gain understanding. Say I was ignorant over a topic in Islam, and didn't comprehend some key issues, I could perhaps discuss it and learn in the process. Honestly, rename the forum. Education gives the wrong idea, and I'd rather have something else, even if it is pretentious.

re: Forum Suggestions and Feedback |
quote Superfast OzI agree, that's the aspect of the forum I was most interested in, and I have tried to create topics that promote more abstract discussions but they haven't managed to remain very active. I'm definately up for getting involved in some more dynamic and interesting threads, particularly considering I've now finished formal education for the time being, and as such many of the other threads aren't particularly relevant to me anymore. ------------------- ![]()

quote GalacticdramonGet out of my head Galacticdramon! I was just coming along to suggest the very same idea. All it would require is for people to refer to the country of the education system they are discussing in the title and people would be saved a lot of confusion. This would help encourage more discussion by resulting in more country-specific threads, therefore enabling people to contribute who previously had felt thread subject's foreign to them (in more ways than one). ------------------- G&ADBYE
