I used to, but I don't need that sort of motivation any longer.

If I get straight As, I get $40. Any Bs and I get nothing. So it's a good motivation.

Nope, I got a watch from my parents when I got a half price scholarship for grade 8-10 though..

Yes, I do get something. I get the opportunity to succeed in a well-paying career and be able to do whatever I want in my adult life.

No one should be rewarded for what they ought to do. My parents often like to take me out to a restaurant that I like when I get straight A's, even though I tell them that I don't do it for the reward. I do it to improve myself.

Yeah. You do not need an award. If you get one, it is just to push yourself.

Narr, nothing. In principal I don't mind, because I did well anyway. I do think it kinda sucks though that parents will often wait until they see what sorts of grades their kids look to be getting before making a decision to reward them for it. If you do well from the first grade, they tend to not bother. Which is ridiculous.

It worries me a bit, because it shouldn't be needed in either event. If the kid is motivated to do well, they don't need an incentive for it (although it is good to let them know you're proud of them every now and then). If the kid isn't, it's probably due to a lack of discipline - and bandaid solutions like bribes (which they effectively are in many cases) aren't going to fix a problem that serious. For mine, anyway.

When I started, I think 5th grade, my mom started giving me money for grades. Because she would no longer buy me everything I wanted or anything like that. Mine is just like a good job, here you go type of thing because I have always done good...she rose it up because she thought I wouldn't get an A...I fooled her

For GCSEs, I'm getting like:

A* - $64
A - $12 (except Chinese which is $24)
B - 0
C - -$12 (except Chinese which is -$24)
D - Don't even think about it. >_>
