I know that some of you have been waiting patiently for this.

Here's the go. To remove the stigma of school and university, we've decided that a name change is probably the go.

In the spirit of our Communist paradise, the power's being given back to you, the members. All things being equal, the name given the most support as a result of this thread will be the name we present to Redemption in the hope of having it changed.

To get the ball rolling, here are the suggested names so far:

The Rogue Scholar
Rogue Scholars
Pursuit of Knowledge
Scientia (Latin for ‘Knowledge’)
Sapientia (Latin for ‘Wisdom’)
Insectatio Sapientae ( Latin for 'The Pursuit of Wisdom')
In the Pursuit of Knowledge
Knowledge Base
Institute for Higher Learning
The College Campus
The Lecture Room
The Lectern
The Palace of Athena
The Study Hall
The Lecture Hall

Ideally, you'd show support for one of these names. You can suggest a new name if you really think it adds something that these don't, however.

Keep in mind that the name should reflect the values and atmosphere you want this place to have - knowledge and learning without being too pretentious.

How about the 'Educational Forum'? Similar name, and surprisingly doesn't have the same connotations as Education.

If not, how do you get past "Insectatio Sapientae"? It's genius.

I can't see a Latin title drawing in new members. If I saw a forum named Insecto Serpento, then I highly doubt I would give it a second glance. It might be good for current posters, but those posters will eventually leave and new members will not bother coming because they don't know what the hell it means. I also can't see The College Campus being any more benficial than the current title. The Lectern is probably the name that draws me the most. It is simple, yet somehow gets the message across detailing what the forum means and what it is about; for me at least.

Edit: A Lecturn is a stand that holdes notes in a speech or lecture. (for those who don't know)

I agree with Jesus (omg). A Latin name won't draw in new posters, let's be honest. I like The Lectern but I was unaware of what it actually was until I saw someone define it in the Homework & Tutoring suggestion thread I think it was.

Poor Latin.

And I do agree that Lectern is a good name for the forum. However, I can't vouch that people will know what it is. I didn't know what it was until just now.

I like names like 'The Rogue Scholar' and 'The Lectern' because they give it a sort of pub feel. And we're really looking for it to be more laidback.

That said, 'The Pursuit of Knowledge' obviously summarises what we're all about a lot better.

Oh, and Forte - you'd obviously still be allowed to discuss these things, but we don't want people thinking that's all we're about.

I like Pursuit of Knowledge the best.

Honestly, I really don't think names like The Lectern or The Palace of Athena are going to grab much attention. The Lecture Hall, The Study Hall, The Lecture Room and The College Campus all sound pretty geared towards just talk on school/college/university, which I thought you were trying to avoid.

The Rogue Scholar flows the best.
