Alright, I'm going to tentatively create a General Discussion here. Hopefully, it will help build a sense of community and encourage some shier members to post.

I still expect the same level of maturity from everyone. If it degenerates into sex banter or inappropriate conversations it will be closed. But what you are allowed to discuss is obviously a lot more liberal than in other threads.

When I say 'inappropriate' I don't mean that every single thing has to relate to Academic pursuits or anything like that. I just mean what would also be considered inappropriate for other forums.

I've been in the same predicament Tainted - it sucks. Have you tried telling them that you'll get a job when you fail academically as much as they have? after telling my parents that, compromising by telling them that I'll work in any free time I have available and explaining that my priority was my education they shut up.

I'm going back to Uni in a few weeks and I can't wait! freedom. Anybody else having problems coping with their parents after however-so-many months independently living away from home?

I brought up that I am focusing on my education, and it made them think about my situation a bit. But then they said "It's not fair to your brother" who had to get a job. But they told me that it was because he was doing nothing but staying at home and sleeping all day, which is the exact opposite of what I do. Not to mention he's a very smart kid, but is taking easy classes because he has absolutely no motivation.

Meh, I know parenting is hard, but I don't think the "We made him do it so you have to too" arguments really has any footing in this situation. Oh well; if I can only work on weekends and make 50 bucks every two weeks then I guess I will.

I used to travel home and get time and a half on Saturdays and Double Time on Sundays. I used to make about £190 in two days on minimum wage.

If you think you can handle that, it's definitely worth it, I had shit loads of fun and it didn't affect my education or social life (always go out on Weekdays). Also, if your employer is reasonable they should give you time off in exam or course work periods.

This isn't the hardest year for me, not even close, but I have to get a job. My parents have a thing that I have to pay for my car, both insurance and gas, and that requires a car. It sucks too, because I'm going to drain all of my money on a car.

But this year is important to me, Junior Year is ACT year, which sucks *Sigh*

So many people in here need jobs. I think I'm the only person who's overemployed. I can tell you, the only way you could possibly justify four jobs is a love of money, too much free time or being too close to your employer to quit...
