Can someone explain what this is for me?
I played the demo and got in to fever a few times but I never understood what difference it made. I thought maybe I wouldn't have to drum for a bit but that didn't work.

You hit higher damage, I think a load screen tells you. If you get a 10x combo (don't miss any notes for 10 rhythms in a row) you get it, and your guys start hitting 3 and 4 times the normal damage they'd hit until you miss a note and it goes back down to 1x.

Your patapons execute unique moves in fever mode. Also, I believe you can only use your JuJu (magic) in fever mode.

I find that you can quickly get fever - get a perfect string of four commands, and you can get fever quickly. So an example? OK, here you go - just watch the combo counter in the top left. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j0B_K7LFjYQ
