Okay, someone who really likes the game please reply to this...
|
I got this off Ebay and recieved it yesterday and stopped playing FFX and played this for close to 1 hour.
I picked Karen, and although I liked the combat scenes, I did get a bit bored during the whole move, click, move, click, fight, etc.
Now I know, yeah I only played 1 hour of it, but so far plot wise it's lacking and the movement in towns and on the 'map??' just got tedious and sad.
Does it get better, and if so, please explain how.
THanks.

Well if you persevere with it, then yes, it does get better. The storyline is great.
Karen is the Fortune Teller is she not?
I've played hers and Ventus, and also the female pirate and finally settled on Judy. Her's is the furtherst I've progressed.

Karen? I thought the fortuneteller's name was Ruby. Do you have a different version or something?

Er... yeah.
After referencing with the game, I find that there is no character by the name of Karen that is a major playable character. Bizarre. So I don't know where the whole Karen thing came from, unless... is she the woman with the Fear grid blocked into the center of her sheet where she becomes weak against undead monsters? On Ventus' mission, I believe.
God, I hated that!

First off, yes, that's it. no graphics, no polygons, just straight paper-mario animation and DnD style token walking. you won't be seeing any fancy-pants graphics here.
second, be prepare to sit through that for at least 20 game hours. the learning curve is steep. you will be clueless for a big while, and you won't find anything in the manuals. the alternative is to go to the FAQs section to read through Ramtieger's comprehensive game system FAQ, but that can be daunting.
The most important thing to learn in this game is character panel growth. If you understand this, the game is infinitely more enjoyable. The basic concept is that you don't have levels, only base stats, and the game uses skill panels as multipliers for those stats. some skills have better multipliers than others, and hence at high levels will make your character stronger.
Therefore, YOU CANNOT POWER LEVEL IN THIS GAME. read the last sentence again. once more. good. you better make the best of every single map. kill everything. at the end of the adventure, you get a selection of panels. pick the ones with the best growth. Fill your panels with punch, kicks and throw panels. it will make the game a WHOLE lot easier.
Don't bother with magic yet. trust me, if you are a FF fan with little experience in complex systems, it will blow your brains.
Lastly, I know i'm being patronizing, but yeah, this game is a good game BECAUSE the system is deep. don't be afraid to be a newbie. ask questions you don't understand about the game. I'll be here. we can even make this a newbie thread. just please, give this game more than 20 hours before putting it down.
once you get it, you'll get it. if you don't, i doubt you will. this is the blacksheep of the RPG world, so you better be patient.
sorry for the rant.
To Dart96: You don't die from losing your HP. you die from losing all your LP. HP is more like MP in this game, but it also acts as buffer against LP damage. you use up HP to do actions too, although you don't NEED hp to do actions (you can still issue commands that use HP even when it is at 0) bearing in mind that without HP, you are more liable to lose LP, in and out of battles (i.e. traps)
