re: HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray |

Eh, I don't really see a quality difference between the two. The only other thing I'm not too fond of, is that there isn't any sort of burning device for Blu-Ray. I had to install a Blu-Ray system at this guy's house, and he wants to burn his security camera imput onto Blu-Ray discs. We obviously can't do that yet, so he was kinda pissed... -------------------

Wouldnt it be easier and cheaper just to save it to a big hard drive? Blank single layer BD disks are like $25 EACH!. Thats about a dollar a gigabyte. You can get a 400GB hard drive for about $85. ------------------- Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you.

Cheaper maybe, but not really any easier. BD provides an easy way to change the disk and log dates and times. If you record to a HDD when an incident happens then you are still going to need a DVD burner or a jump drive or something to copy the video to for transport. On the ohter hand you don't have to remember to change the disk every day. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature Forum

Just a question, can you play the normal, old DVDs on a blu-ray dvd player? Or do you have to replace your entire film collection with blu-ray discs? Already had to do that once when everything changed to DVDs! -------------------

Nearly all if not all Blu-ray players also play DVDs. On top of that they upscale as well so you get HD quality out of them. Just not quite as good as Blu-ray offers. So no you won't have to replace your collection. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature Forum

That's excellent, thanks a lot. Although there still is the temptation to replace some of the DVDs with blu-ray just to get the better quality out of them! Especially on action films and stuff. Anyone got money to burn and doing this? -------------------

Believe me, I've seen upscaled DVDs and Blu-Rays. There is a difference but the money isn't worth the difference IMO. -------------------

quote DarknetTo that I say: BULLOCKS! Upscaled DVDs are nowhere near Blu-ray quality and it's damn sure worth the difference. Anyone in doubt watch a scene on DVD, then switch to a BD and watch the same scene. ------------------- ![]()

Eh, I would say if you have the money to upgrade and it isn't going to hurt your budget in any major way to do it then go for it. But it isn't something I would rush out and get right now just to have it. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature Forum

Still trying to find info on profile 2.0 but BD live is basically adding interactive online content to the movies that will come out under profile 2.0. Not sure what else profile 2.0 adds though. ------------------- ![]() Education Forum|Books & Literature Forum

If you are considering upgrading but have original DVD's in your collection but want to watch them with Blu-ray quality then do what I am going to do at the end of this month. ------------------- ![]() ![]()
